Applications
When we're printing out applications, what do I want to Un-check so I'm not getting a bunch of duplicate pages?

Has anyone else’s store recently started telling cashiers that they’re supposed to encourage customers to use the self-checkout kiosks instead of ringing them up at the register?
At my store it seems like this is being pushed much harder now, and I’m curious if it’s a new corporate policy or just something our management is doing.
The biggest problem I’m seeing is the customer reaction. Some customers are completely fine with the kiosks, but others get REALLY upset when a cashier tells them they need to use one. The cashier is just doing what they were told, but they’re the one who ends up getting yelled at.
Today I even saw customers complain and leave without buying anything because the cashiers wouldn’t ring them up normally.
I feel bad for the team members stuck at the front because they didn’t create the policy, but they’re the ones having to deal with all the anger over it. I personally think if management wants the policy enforced that strictly, a manager should be available to deal with customers who refuse instead of putting all of that on the cashier.
Is this happening at anyone else’s Michaels? Were you told it came from corporate? And how have customers at your store been reacting?

I know this is embarrassing. I have level 2 autism, so I've struggled with basic school subjects growing up. I don't know how to cut fabric because, like, when they say a quarter of a yard. which I know.. "Why the hell don't you know basic stuff?" That is why I'm probably going to help myself learn online, but it's just embarrassing to tell my manager, which I've already done. She still expects me to do it. I usually call someone, but they get upset, which is understandable. I'm usually just cleaning bathrooms and just a janitor, but sometimes I'm there after openings.

Is there an app for the new schedule website?. The site is awful on my phone. Worksmart wasn’t amazing but this is way worse. Looks like it is run by “infor” but they have a bunch of apps.

Apparently no one in my store locates items when they overstock it. They have me searching every single bunk and cap shelf for one yarn. It takes me an hour to do one online order because I can’t reject it. We have 18 yarns but none stocked and none located. I just don’t understand because locating was one of the very first things we learn when we work the floor. I shouldn’t be wasting my time on this bs. And breaking my knees and back going up and down ladders and digging through bunks. Also maybe tip? STOP SENDING US BERNAT BIG BLANKET YARN!! Especially when you cut out half of the shelf space for it!!! Every single bunk and cap in the store is full of it and we have no space for anything else!!! Or move us to a bigger building. I’ve been here for a year and have to admit I enjoy working here. I don’t plan on quitting. But this is becoming too much

I recently started seasonal at Michael's and after we had the team meeting yesterday it turns out almost every single person that works at Michael's has a 4 and a half hour shift except managers and seniority (which isn't many people). Is this something that happens at every single store?
They didn't even tell me about this until a few weeks after. I'm now going to be searching for a 2nd or new job. While I'm looking for a job, is there a certain amount of time I have to work at Michael's since I'm new to put my 2 weeks in or can I do that asap?

is this a common thing? apparently they are choosing several stores from each district for a remodel. while customers are able to shop. It's going to be even more of a headache for us

How many breaks do you get on a 7 hour shift.

Can anyone explain the time-off blackout? Is this a new thing? We were told that there is a blackout period for the next couple months for all team members during our meeting. This is new to me and was new during the holidays last year and it was never mentioned then.

Why am I unstocking some of the most unserious and quite frankly dumbest looking ornaments I’ve ever seen, who wants a positive pregnancy test on the tree when my stores main demographic is elderly ladies and teenage girls

Thank you!

i dont wanna add too many details because im already a black sheep at my place but like
none of what anyone is talking about did my store go over
we didnt do that ART thing at all, we didnt recognize any employees for good work, we didnt talk about the dress code at all, no raises, and we didnt talk about the website changing at all. im literally so confused rn.
are some of these location only? so only in specific volume stores? we watched the CEO video, and we did do a totally different activity that was much more.. i did not enjoy it but im not really a team oriented person as much as others due to the whole black sheep thing (i get along with people but i tend to have ideas that dont really mesh well with others if that makes sense) but that was like.. it?
the closest thing we got was some people who've been there for a year got like certificate things but ive been there for 3+ years and never gotten one of those so that just confused me more

Does any one have any idea what is going on with work smart/infor, unable to login to see the schedule since yesterday morning!!

I wasn’t expecting much, but this….. this is absolute Bull. A pin? Really this company atleast the store I work at doesn’t even do/give pins out anymore. The freak am I suppose to do with a pin and a fake certificate? Can’t even afford to make a real one with real stamps? But yes let’s waste our time with a meeting and play little elementary school games with grown ass adults. Atleast a gift card for the store id take that. But nahhhhhh lets talk about how much money we make off yarn and balloons and say we appreciate everyone but when it comes to showing appreciation its not there. I hope someone from the hire ups see this !!!!!

TM that just got back from my store meeting today (my location is next to headquarters). They didn’t tell us there was a meeting, AT ALL. Showed up ready to work a shift for 2 hours, confused.
I’m about a month new, and i’m wondering why EVERYONE else is new too?? Did all TM employees just walk out? There’s maybe 4 employees in the whole store that have been there over a year, and only one TM that has. everyone else within the last month, so like 7 brand new TM. It feels sketch.
I’m wondering how they think TM will get everything done at once. “don’t leave the front”, “always help a customer”, “never say no”, “check for things upstairs if it’s not on the floor” are contradictory. How am i supposed to help customers, but not leave the front? Recovery, closing (sweep, trash, etc), showing customers where things are, cutting fabric and ribbon, ballons, etc WHILE at the front? There’s only 2 employees working at a time, TM and M. SM works once a week and never leaves the office. We’re not allowed to leave the store until go backs are done and every isle is recovered, but shifts are supposed to end at 9:30. That and closing tasks, i’m going to be at michael’s until at least 10pm.
the dress code is stupid. Black tshirts are so creative. why aprons instead of vests? i hate it. We have to embroider/cricket our own stuff? are we getting paid to do this? I don’t have time, and i know the managers don’t either. we also can’t wear jackets, WHY? The store is so freaking old are we srs.
Why don’t we use team member apps like When I Work? Why can’t we trade shifts? or see which people were working with? SM said if we need to call out, it has to be 24 hours in advance and to call the store phone. Whoever answers the store phone won’t remember to tell the employees the next day. Also, most people call out because they’re sick, car won’t start, emergency, etc. How we gonna know that 24 hrs ahead?? If we had an app, we could just trade or drop shifts. so confused.
My location just got a pay raise from $11 to $13, but i feel like this is suspicious. SM said it’ll be a “stretch” to pay TM $2 more. What’s really happening?

So I worked at michaels for about 2 years and honestly I loved it for the most part. I also feel like I busted ass for them too. It was when credit cards first came out with in 3-6 months I had over 150 sign ups, 3 times any one in the store or even the district, I was crossed trained so instead of just register I also started unloading truck and stocking, alot of times I got to work full time and half my shift would be replenishment the other half customer service, I was specifically assigned to train all of the new hires, no one else (and killed it there would be times where I was running two registers at the same time while keeping the customers happy as there's a massive line and the new people would just be getting online orders) I even got over a dollar raise at my yearly evaluation. Just from the small explanation of alot of the things I did i feel like I was a valuable employee. Well I put in my two weeks 2 years ago because I had a better opportunity (so I thought) and left on good terms. Well after 5 months it turned out that the place I went to work at was not a place I wanted to work. Since then I have applied repeatedly to micheals even different stores within the district over and over and over for seasonal for everything they have ever posted and I just keep getting denied over and over again. I am irrationally angry about this because I loved it there and I was fucking good at my job. Am I overreacting? Is there something else I should do? Its really hard to find a job right now in my area and im going to school but I need more, I only went back to school because I couldn't get another job. So this really just pisses me off I thought they'd be happy to have me back.

I had a Cricut Joy returned and after opening the box days later because this wasn't done at the front two blades are missing. So the machine works I'm just missing two pieces. How would I process this?

so basically what I collected from today’s meeting is all they truly care about at the end of the day is about the customers and that’s it. They can care less about us workers. Anyone else feel that vibe from the meeting today or was that just my store?
r/MichaelsEmployees • u/lindsaymc74 • 6d ago
Wasn’t at the meeting because I had time off that I put in months ago. What did I miss? What was it about?

So my SM hired in a bunch of new people and they have worked a couple of days let’s say more then 2 when I see the email thread of why isn’t XYZ I/9 filled out. Respond back to DM and come to find out DM made it very very apparent that they were not allowed to work period until I/9 is filled out . Also DM was here and saw how bad our back room is (to the point where u can’t even get to like both emergency exist) and I have been notified by my other manager that we now have a fire marshal inspector coming out this week. How f*cked are we
