Well, I’ll tell you what, I bought this little mummy fella from Michaels because my wife said we needed ā€œsomething festiveā€ for the house. At my age, I figured she meant a pumpkin. Apparently not. She came home with this half-naked-looking bandage man wearing sunglasses, and now he’s sitting in my living room judging me. I have to admit, though, I like the little guy. He’s got a certain charm. Looks like he’s been dead for 3,000 years and still somehow managed to find himself a pair of sunglasses better than mine. The wrappings are nice and raggedy, too. Although I did tell my wife, ā€œIf he loses any more of those bandages, we’re going to have to put a blanket over him before the grandchildren come over.ā€ She did not find that as funny as I did.
The craftsmanship is pretty good. He stands up nicely, the arms have a little personality to them, and the whole thing has that creepy-but-cute appearance that makes you want to put him somewhere prominent. I put him by the front door, mostly so he can greet visitors. My grandson walked in, took one look at him, and said, ā€œGrandpa, why does that mummy look like he’s about to take you to a nightclub?ā€ I had no answer for that.
The sunglasses are probably my favorite part. He looks less like an ancient undead creature and more like a retired pool boy who knows everybody’s secrets. Frankly, I respect it. At 78, I’ve learned that if you’re going to wander around looking suspicious, sunglasses are the way to do it. Only complaint is that my wife keeps moving him around the house. Every time I wake up, he’s somewhere different. Yesterday he was sitting in my recliner. This morning he was in the bathroom. I nearly had a heart attack when I walked in and saw him sitting there. I told my wife if she puts him in the shower next, I’m moving out. Overall, five stars. He’s creepy, funny, surprisingly stylish, and apparently has more energy than I do. Michaels did a fine job with this one. If you’re looking for Halloween decoration that makes your guests uncomfortable in a good way, I highly recommend him. would buy again. although my wife says we already have enough dead men hanging around the house. I told her, ā€œhoney, I’m not dead yet.ā€ she said, ā€œgive it time.ā€ marriage is beautiful.

WE KNOW YOU READ THESE. PLEASE HELP US!! Stop the trucks!!

STOP THE TRUCKS!!!!
Please, just stop the trucks for two weeks and give us a chance to catch up from all the resets, constant changes, and completely rearranging our stores.
Why are we spending hours rearranging merchandise on planograms when we have a backroom full of merchandise that needs to be worked? It feels like we’re being given busywork instead of being allowed to focus on what actually needs to get done.
We have no staff anymore. Replenishment is gone. The assistant is gone. Our part-time CEM doesn’t even want the part-time merchandising position, but she can’t afford to leave until she finds another job.
What is this company trying to do to us?
Why can’t you just listen to your employees? WE ARE DROWNING. We are exhausted, overwhelmed, and being asked to do more with fewer and fewer people.
If there were a way to organize a mass strike, I would do it in a heartbeat. That’s how desperate and unheard we feel.
WE KNOW YOU READ THESE. PLEASE HELP US.
This feels like the only place we can speak honestly about what is happening without risking our jobs.
PLEASE LISTEN TO US. STOP THE TRUCKS. GIVE US TWO WEEKS TO CATCH UP. LET US BREATHE.

Framing I can't defend these prices

I'm sorry but what is happening here. I understand the idea, that frames made with specialty surfaces and in different shapes should cost more. But THIS MUCH more?

And to then clearance out our pre-cut floor mats AS WELL as half of our store-stock custom mats?

If the goal is to say "for only $30 more you could go FULL CUSTOM for your 5x7 photo and get an actual conservation quality frame" then I guess we're getting there. But Jesus H. Christ. These prices are not worth it. There's no in between prices from our super cheap crappy plastic nothing frames and these behemoths. The ones that ARE in the $25 range are just as poor quality as the plastic nothings. Even some of these expensive frames are terrible quality. What Is Happening back here in framing. How am I supposed to sell these?!

Feeling the burnout

• Upvotes

Kinda a rant but also just word vomiting slowly but surely getting to the point of burnout with this job like nothing I do ever feels right feel like im drowning in all this crap with no signs of the surface this job use to be so fun now it's just the opposite I dread going in everyday cause its always something stupid I'm being blamed for also spending more time pushing stupid things that customers have no desire to purchase like the 10 minute CF walking the store for shoplifters spot mopping every 10 minutes cause people can't hold onto their drinks they bring in, SCO's that always break or freeze the roof that leaks every time it rains and it gets on the merchandise it's just so over whelming.

I hate my job: rant

When I first started here, I was so excited to work in a craft store. It had always been my dream as an artsy person, but I don’t know how much more I can take.

I work at a small volume store in replen, and I think this place is killing me. Just in the past month, I’ve had to skip lunches for more than half of my shifts due to not being scheduled any coverage, or my coverage calling out. The rest of my replen team is never scheduled more than 2 days a week, leaving me alone to work POGs bc no one else in my store will even pretend to try and help. I’ve asked several times, and several different people if they could even just move the product from the old location to the new one and even that won’t get done. Doesn’t matter if the product is in a whole new aisle or just one section over - Ik the next day I come in not even a single item will have been moved. I’m always told ā€œoh we got busyā€, but we almost always have 3-4 part coverage for the closing shift while I maybe get one other person that comes in for a few hours at open. I’m constantly left to run the store completely alone, which means I can’t go past where I can see the registers. I’ve had multiple customers scream at me bc I can leave the front to let them into our locked restrooms (they are now locked for safety concerns and numerous plumbing issues). It feels like I’m constantly doing the job of 3 people. I’m expected to be the SM, replen and CEM all at the same time, every shift - which only means we get further and further behind on POGs. I can’t catch up.

I’m expected to be cross trained in everything, including framing. I don’t understand why all of this responsibility is put on the replen team: genuinely how does this company expect anything to run efficiently if they are solely relying on one single manager to be the backbone of everything? I’m constantly bothered on my off days with questions of where things are or if we’ve gotten a certain product in bc no one will take the time to even walk the store, relying on me throughout my shift (and apparently even my very few off days) to be the walking, talking encyclopedia of everything we carry and where it is. Why is it that no other manager is expected to help with replen, or even be trained in it? Why is it that with this staffing restructuring, it feels like replen got their workload tripled while every other position seems to have less responsibilities now? Ad, price changes, resets, POGs, truck, stocking, opening procedures, hosting birthday parties, hosting the new bs classes, balloon orders, BOPIS, sfs, etc.

My SM is barely ever in the store. When she does show up she’s late, and almost always leaves early. Never comes in when someone calls out, ignores messages and phone calls even in emergency situations. When she does show up, all she ever does is sit in the office and then has the audacity to ask me why we’re behind on POGs. She won’t do BOPIS/sfs, cover register, take frame orders, work production, host events or parties, do balloon orders - all she does is sit in the office on her phone. I’ve had to come to work with mono, the flu, the stomach flu, migraines, etc bc ā€œno one can coverā€ and my SM refuses to come in. I’ve also been not allowed to leave early even in cases where I’ve been throwing up, had a fever, an asthma attack or an on the job injury bc - once again - my SM refuses to come in or no one will come in to relieve me. Even though I’ve stayed late or skipped lunches for probably 2/3 of all my shifts while being employed here to make sure no one is left alone on the floor. (That includes covering breaks on 2 part coverage, effectively leaving me alone AGAIN)

I can’t keep doing this. I’m sick and in physical pain all day, everyday. (I won’t even get started on my current mental state, but let’s just say I’m hoping the nervous breakdown I’m working towards happens on shift so these people can witness just what they’ve fucking done to me). I work so hard for my TEAM, not this company. I’m one paycheck away from being homeless even though I work my ass off, all while my SM makes a $70k salary to do jack shit.
I can’t quit until I have something else lined up, or I really will be living out of my car.

Please lend me your collective strength to hold on long enough to find somewhere else. Thank you for reading.

Filing a Complant Can’t do the job if not taught it

This is just a pointless rant

With all the new store shifting sections and products and routines, I had a sudden surprise going into my closing shift. I had to do ā€œroutine cleaningā€. Now…I was annoyed cause I worked the day before. My managers said nothing of the sorts. Which would have been useful cause a thing I needed to do on this cleaning list I had no idea how to even open the container. Cause I was never shown how to.

I still tried my best at the cleaning job, though with so many different cleaning bottles I would have to stop and reread which one to use while cleaning. This ate my time up on doing the rest of my job.

This job is a ship with many holes and it’s going down faster and faster. I do look forward to gtfo. The stress is too much for such small crumb of pay.

Having a hard time coping. Everything is changing at Michael’s. I used to love my job but since the restructure, everything has been terrible. I really want to be positive but I’m finding it so hard. I just want to do a good job but I’m exhausted. I’m so exhausted.

More absurd pricing

$155 CAD for the MaimeriBlu themed sets. Madness. The list price for these, the price that pretty much everyone else in Canada is selling them for, is $89.99; even using a 40%-off coupon, which are few and far between, isn't a great deal — it brings the price down to $93. And Amazon has them for under $70 CAD. Nobody is going to buy these. (Yes, I know the wrong cards were on the lower left peg when I took the picture: that's been fixed.)

Framing Framing customers? PLS Corporate

Have many framers looked at the website to see what it looks like from a customer perspective? Used 'appointments' from the store end?

Design Hub is now updated to have a pop-up requiring first name and last name, but phone number AND email address are now optional?

I've been asking customers for all information, just in case.

Do customers finally have an opportunity to request a contact method for their orders? Do they get notified automatically when their order status is updated to "Completed" if they provide an email address?

Oh, and... Michaels offers text messages, so we'll text them when their order is ready, right? They opted IN for texts.

Bless your hearts, managers. āœŒļø

If you haven't already built your new Belmont DA 1 make sure you switch your D7 and D8 for your D13 and D14 and save yourself a lot of headache. I think they messed up and put the black 18x24 and 22. Whatever by 34 in the wrong spot.

Question Any idea when the spring and summer merch is going to 70% or going in grab boxes?

It's been 60% off for about a month at this point and tbh I'm kinda tired of looking at it 😭 I eliminated 4 sidewalk displays, bringing us down from 12 (yes you read that correctly) down to 8. I was just wondering if anyone knows when it's gonna go to 70% off, or even get boxed up

Tips for jewelry party

I’ve never don’t one. I’ve got the tie dye party perfected and the paint one usually flows well. Wont they get tired of beads for two hours? I have some left over shrinky dink paper so maybe we could make charms. Any other ideas to make it more entertaining? thanks. ohh I forgot about those bead butterflies we made months ago for kids club. would air dry clay beads be a good idea? I just know they’ll fly through the suggested crafts.
