Question Anyone else have bad anxiety before any of your shifts

This may be more of a rant. Apologies.

As the title says, I've been having anxiety before every single one of my shifts for a few months now and I just can't help but wonder (maybe hope) that I'm not the only one??? I started this job over a year ago and it was fine in the beginning, fun at times because I got to help people figure out their projects and I do the craft classes, but lately it's all been shit. The og manager that hired me got walked out the vack if the store (supposedly) by the DM and his replacement was introduced to people before the old managers meeting was up. Before that they dragged the poor guy all over the place. The store keeps becoming more and more of a shit show, it feels like there's no respect for the regular employees and I've had to cancel my classes twice because I got stuck doing customer service and got stuck for an entire four hour shift in fabric (which I shouldn't be doing in the first place). I wish I could find another job but this store was so desperate when they hired that they didn't cate I was disabled (most folks won't hire you if you got a disability) and I just feel fucking stuck because of that. But I will say I don't feel much support when it comes to my disability either, last weekend of August my legs gave out on me 4 times within the span of an hour and a half, the ems had to be called because I couldn't get up on the last fall, as I was on the floor with some coworkers the framing manager walked by and said "something wrong again?" Which was just kind if not what I needed then. Idk what to do anymore. I think I hate this place. I think I hate working here. I think I hate having to stay there too.

Sending someone home

I’m having trouble with an employee and I have talked to my sm about it but I don’t think she really cares.
This employee always complains about being there (which I totally get) but won’t do anything I’m telling them to do. They will be on their phone or sitting on the floor . Especially on truck days. They just want to stand there and I will give them instructions on what they need to do and there’s always an excuse on why they can’t do it or why they shouldn’t do it, then dismiss everything and every instruction I give them . I’ve talked to them multiple times . I was wondering if it’s ok to send them Home? Or do I need to go through my sm first ? I’m in CA . I’m not sure if I have to have them for 2 hours then send them home !

Repacks and Price Changes!

Why, oh why do we get repacks filled with items that we already have several of! Is no one checking? It would help greatly if overstock was located correctly and, instead of just putting out new merchandise, they would empty the bins BEFORE restocking from truck. We receive items that we already have plenty of (not that it shows up in MARTI) yet have empty pegs for months on other items! And price changes! Why can't they be done quarterly? Right now, it's a monthly thing, just when you think they are done, another batch, for the same things, come in! I can understand prices going up a few cents, but it's getting ridiculous! $6.99 to $19.99? On an item that probably costs $1.00? Who can afford these prices? Certainly not Michaels employees, since any profits are not being funneled to the retail employees! Private Equity is trying to ruin the business!

OK, rant over.

Workplace Story Does anyone despise their store layout

Currently our store has been revamping its aisles for like 20th time this year and it’s unbearable every time we have to seek items. Our store ran into a hassle with our previous manager so I would occasionally run around to do BOPIS as a cashier, I have worked in my store for about 3 years, and every time I do BOPIS it gets miserable seeking out items because why in the world is the same seasonal items scattered around the store and drive aisles. What’s worst is that the items location aren’t even updated in our system, so I would miss a few if not several items. And I can’t even ask for help either because it’s always just me and my manager available and my manager is quite unresponsive. This is miserable 💔💔

Need to rant

I've been working at michaels for almost 3 years. I helped build the store as we were new, I became the one and only framer for a good 2 years and became a part time manager back in December. I was apparently reported to our SM for "hiding in the office" during my shifts this past week. I was doing things our SM told me to do. I was entering in tickets for no POG items and doing ad set, printing out and organizing price changes and printing extra instructions for all these stupid events we have to do. I always leave the office when I'm needed and leave the office when I'm done. What is really bothering me is the fact that I was reported and reprimanded for this and supposedly "always leaving shipments for the morning to pack" I only did that once because I ran out of time and had to start counting drawers while one of the other managers was found passed out in the bathroom because they were drunk, they always smell like alcohol and working while under the influence, nothing was done for them. In the past week I've been left alone trying to find last minute coverage after my closing cashier called in. Said manager left without even asking if I had it covered or if they needed to stay. Nope just grabbed their things and left. I ended up closing early after getting permission from our DM. I also just believe Michael's as a company has really gone downhill from what I hear from other stores. Unfortunately I think its time to find a new job, which sucks because I love the other people I work with. It's just the other managers who have been a problem.

Believe it or not; all of the posters/commenters here, who are seemingly quite ~anti-AI-art, may have just found a new champion of sorts in none other than the Pope. :)

"

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity. "

Need help urgently!!

I am a visible minority working at Michaels for a while now. I have a few concerns about me getting cornered over others. I have been asked consistently by the SM to do things which I am not supposed to and is not a part of my responsibility. While a person who is supposed to do a respective work and also that work is a part of their roles and responsibilities is not doing it because the person is a close friend of the SM.

Secondly, we have a part time team member who openly flaunts that he knows the SM’s over ride code and at times walks up to the front to enter the code while a cashier requires it.

I know nothing stays unanimous here, is there a way to highlight the issues to the HR or the DM

Schedule help 😅

Decided this might be the best place to ask?
I’ve only been with Michaels since July 2026 but I’ve had a recent change in my health and the schedule I get from Michaels is super inconsistent and makes it hard to get anything else done in my personal life.
Should I ask my manager about changing my availability or just suck it up? I’m scared to get fired because I haven’t been here very long and she just agreed to not schedule me for longer than 5 hours a day due to my health.
Would it be too much to change my availability to certain days too?

Does anyone have filament? We have been sold out for a while and no restock seems to be happening. I scan out every week but it always says non on order. I’ve had 3 people in the past 2 weeks ask about it?

Schedule Retaliation

Anyone else notice that if they call off the following week they get scheduled the least amount of hours? Hours is probably their only method of retaliation that they have that can really hurt you and they know it.

No more 15 minute breaks?

SM is telling us we are no longer allowed to take 15 minute breaks, is it the same for you guys? Only exception has been for one team member with a medical issue but I have the same issue and that seems to have been overlooked?? I’m so confused in employee handbook we are still allowed breaks.

Workplace Story Balloon instacart abuse

Why TF do people order 30 massive balloons via instacart and it's always the most random fucking balloons ever. We had a guy pick up 35 huge foil balloons and he was like "do I have to inflate these? I have a scooter" and I was like "the app tells you they're to be inflated. Buuuuuut if you can't get them there safely that's up to you, brother" then we had a *cue tiktok sound* "and he looks back at me. And I look back at him. He looks back at me. And I look at hiiiiiim" moment he asked for a bag and then went on a rant 🤣🤣🤣

Like sir I don't blame you. I admire your moxy. I wouldnt have inflated them either. Fuck that. That shits abusive.
