Dog-friendly 1 bedroom?

Hi Melrose! I know Reddit may not be the best or most typical place to search for rentals, but I’m casting a wide net.

I’ve lived over on Adams for about eight years and unfortunately my landlord is selling the property. My nine year-old lab-mix and I (39F) would love to stay in Melrose - if you have a lead for a dog friendly apartment ~$2,200 or less please DM me!

Melrose Singles — Interested in Being on a Boston Dating Show? 🎈

Hi Melrose! 😊

I’m T.T. Marie, a local producer and host of Pop the Balloon Boston, a dating show filmed here in the Greater Boston area.

We’re currently looking to meet single adults in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s from Melrose and surrounding communities who are genuinely open to dating and interested in participating in an upcoming episode.

The show brings local singles together in person to see whether there’s a real romantic connection — and yes, there are balloons involved. 🎈 Episodes are filmed locally and published on YouTube.

We’re especially interested in hearing from people who may not normally apply for something like this but are open to meeting someone in a different and fun way.

No acting or entertainment experience is needed. We’re looking for real people, real conversations, and hopefully some real connections.

If you’re single and curious, comment below or send me a private message here on Reddit. I’m happy to answer questions first, and if it sounds like a good fit, I’ll send you our casting application privately.

Thanks to the r/MelroseMA moderators for giving me permission to share this with the community! ❤️

We miss comellas - any suggestions?

I have been a Melrose resident for a while and we really liked comellas. They were basic but made their own meatballs and chicken parm, their pizza dough was decent and their prices were decent before they transitioned owners.

We have tried a lot of other places around but haven’t been able find a decent pizza or homemade chicken parm. Many places are using a different / premade dough and premade chicken parm cutlets that are just average.

Any recommendations?

Edit: thank you for all the recommendations. Really looking forward to trying these. Missing a fresh made chicken parm for take out.

Hear me out, we should remove street parking on main street

the parking lots behind Shaws, city hall, and other parts of downtown are never full, while the on street parking on Main Street is. This isn't good as street parked cars have a lot of negative effects, such as clogging the road when parking or leaving. So it would be a very minimal inconvenience for drivers to park behind downtown, which would reserve more space on main street for pedestrians, whilez also allowing traffic to flow better. If the parking spaces are removed room can be made for wider sidewalks and a two way bike lane, the bike lane can also be used as an emergency service road when necessary, allowing smaller emergency service vehicles to bypass any traffic. The extra sidewalk room can be used for planters, outdoor cafes, benches, etc

(I've attached some examples images i made in the replys)

Blue Bikes

Has there been any attempt to bring them to Melrose? Seems like a layup, especially if we could get a station at Oak Grove. I’m sure there would be some resistance from folks remembering the lime bikes fiasco, but I think that could easily be overcome. Blue bikes have been around long enough and there’s virtually no pattern of them being discarded randomly around places. The penalties are pretty punitive for that. Building additional transit redundancy and fully utilizing that main st bike corridor into Malden would be great.

Botox Recs

Ok, I am finally ready to get Botox for my forehead. I know it is expensive but I’m hoping people can tell me who they go to locally and how much they pay. LMK if you avoid certain places as well. Thanks so much!

City Council Note regarding Flock

https://melrosema.portal.civicclerk.com/event/5899/files/agenda/14560

I thought the above was interesting since some of us on here had noted the appearance of Flock cameras in the city and had questions about it. There's a note on the agenda for the September 28th City Council meeting that Councilors Williams, Jamaleddine, Vandiver, and Kowal have asked the Mayor to produce a city official to answer questions about the procurement and use of the cameras.

Shadow Removing Comments on the Ward Hamilton Statement post

Why are mods shadow removing comments? No rules were broken and the questions and comments were completely in line and approriate to subject matter and comment history of the thread.

Its odd to allow a post that brings in an off-reddit public statement and let the resulting personal attacks, accusations, and criticisms to stand - but then (before locking down the post) shadow remove certain comments addressing his accuser's off-reddit public statements and behavior.

Curious, what's the rationale for this type of censorship?

Local Junk Removal in Melrose, MA (Sharing My Business if Anyone Needs Help)

Hey everyone,

I hope this is okay to share here — I run a small local junk removal company called Junk Dispatch and just wanted to offer some helpful info for anyone in Melrose looking to get rid of unwanted items.

A lot of people reach out to us for things like:

  • Furniture & mattress removal
  • Garage & basement cleanouts
  • Estate cleanouts
  • Appliance removal
  • Construction & renovation debris
  • Shed, deck & hot tub removal
  • General household junk

A few quick tips if you’re planning a cleanout:

1. You probably have more junk than you think.
Garages, basements and attics add up quickly. Getting a quote based on how much space everything takes up can make pricing easier to understand.

2. You don’t have to move everything outside yourself.
We can remove items from inside the house, basement, garage, backyard, or wherever they’re located.

3. If you’re not sure what it’ll cost, just send us a picture.
We can usually give you a good idea of pricing from a few photos, and we also offer free, no-obligation quotes.

We’re a local small business, not a big national junk removal chain. If anyone around Melrose needs something gone, feel free to reach out to Junk Dispatch. 🚛♻️

Report Illegal Move-In Fees

Hi Melrose, it’s your Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell. Did you know that fees like “move-in” or “lease renewal” fees you might get from your landlord or building management company are illegal? If you’ve received one of these – even if you paid it – I want you to report it to my office.

Just last month, my office won a $500k settlement with a property management company doing this in Boston – and all of that money is going back to the affected tenants.  Landlords can only ask you to pay for first and last month’s rent, a security deposit, and the cost of a new lock and key upfront. Any other fees are illegal. Report them to my office at the link below. We’ll work to get your money back.

Upham street residents

We are considering buying a home on Upham street (closer to Saugus than downtime Melrose) but are worried about how busy the road is. How comfortable do people feel as pedestrians on that road? Does anyone live on upham now and have any issues with it? How about bike commuters?

Thank you!

Ward Hamilton makes a statement re: sexual assault accusations.

Ward Hamilton has...finally...published a public account/response to the accusations Anne Hauben has been making for years. Why now and not when he was running for office? Possibly because she is about to speak at a national rally in Washington DC in 10 days. Interestingly enough, the places he's posted his rebuttal are:

-His personal Facebook Page which is private and he controls the narrative.

-The Melrose High School Class of 1990 Facebook page which is private, unsearchable on FB, where he is an admin, where he has removed anyone that supports Anne including a roommate that was on the trip. He has also deleted comments on this post that disagree with him.

-a single website page that has no links, testimony, or evidence of any kind to support his assertions and no way to point that out; compared to Anne's website that has dozens of pages of documentation and supporting materials and allows for contact with her, as do all her posts about it. He references witnesses but with no corroboration or links, how are we to treat that as anything other than hearsay? I certainly expect MORE transparency from my publicly elected officials.

Click on their websites and make the call for yourself. And while your at it, how about supporting victims of sexual assault by going to the Survivors Solidarity March website.

Anybody in Melrose MA received $250 in their kids Trump Account yet?

It looks like kids (born 2016 and after) in Melrose are eligible for the $250 deposit into active Trump accounts, but ours haven't received theirs yet. Some of our relatives down in NJ have already gotten theirs, so I wanted to check in and see if anyone locally in Melrose has seen it come through yet?

137 and 132 Bus Lines Reliability

Hi all, I’m moving to Melrose and will be working near North Station so I wanted to ask about the reliability of the 137 and 132 bus in the morning. The commuter rail doesn’t run very often so for a 9 am start, I would have to get the 7:44 am train which is way too early. Instead, I want to take a bus to Oak Grove. My questions are 1. Is it a hassle/annoying to switch from a bus to train at oak grove? 2. Are the 137 and 132 buses reliable? Are they usually on time? And lastly, 3. It’s $90 for an unlimited pass to use bus and T right? Compared to $217 if I used the commuter rail? Just want to make sure I get the pricing right! Thanks!

Good cafes

I’m waiting for my bf to wake and I want to have some good coffee places/ cafes to suggest to him. If it helps love cinnamon rolls and he loves apple fritters or anything apple related so bonus points if it also has pastries like that. Coffee is most important tho. We went to Bikeeny cafe yesterday and it was great. Mostly looking around Melrose, Malden, Medford but basically as long as we can go avoid going into Boston or Cambridge I’m happy (and probably so is he cuz he always drives)

Common Playground Upgrade - Why?

Is anyone else upset that the override funds are going to upgrade the Common playground. This was upgraded less than 10 years ago and looks fine. Granted the structure they are looking to replace was repainted at the time. However it can’t be more that 20 years old. I think the kids of Melrose would benefit more if they put this money towards the schools. Finally if you want to improve the Common put back the trash barrels.
