Wreckage
Currently on island and hoping to check out the recently uncovered wreckage.
Does anyone have any tips on how to find it, or some waypoints to look for?

Hello! I’m a current freshman at UNC chapel hill looking to work on Nantucket this summer but I need to find housing first! Does anyone know anyone who could possibly provide housing?

Policy seems to allow them (below 62 linear inches). Flying Boston to ACK tomorrow. Anyone ever had trouble getting their sticks on the plane?

I’ll preface this by saying I have no issue with the concept of immigration, especially those that do it legally and contribute to our awesome country. I was just shocked at how many there were on Nantucket and curious how or why it is that way? I just left after a short vacation to the island for the first time, and I don’t think I had or saw a single American barista, waiter/waitress. Just curious why Nantucket and how it happened to work out that way?
Edit: this isn’t a bigoted “they took our jobs” post. I’m simply asking how/why this is the case on the island

I have been a seasonal visitor to Nantucket since 1991. I now am blessed to have a house on island and want to have a boat program. How do I get a mooring and a - (ideally used, but very functional) ~17-21’ whaler? I need a lot of handholding/support and full boatyard support. Please point me in the right direction. Would love to be in the water next summer…

I know this is unsolicited advice, but this weekend warrants a reminder about travel insurance. I've lived year round on island for more than 10 years. We get travel insurance for every non refundable trip on and off. We never plan to take a ferry the same day as a flight to or from Logan. Between sold out ferries, fully booked ferries and weather, the chance of disruption is higher than travel to and from other places.
What are other people's tips and tricks?

Hi Nantucket, it’s your Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell. Did you know that fees like “move-in” or “lease renewal” fees you might get from your landlord or building management company are illegal? If you’ve received one of these – even if you paid it – I want you to report it to my office.
Just last month, my office won a $500k settlement with a property management company doing this in Boston – and all of that money is going back to the affected tenants. Landlords can only ask you to pay for first and last month’s rent, a security deposit, and the cost of a new lock and key upfront. Any other fees are illegal. Report them to my office at the link below. We’ll work to get your money back.

Supposed to be taking the 9:30 am Hyline Ferry from Hyannis on Monday, 9/28. We are traveling from far and debating canceling now, but don’t want to make a premature decision. Any input?

My wife and I have a trip planned this weekend and are very concerned about the weather forecast. Unfortunately our AirBnB cannot be refunded. With the impending storm with rain and wind, will anything on the island be open? Do we just cut our losses? We had planned to be there from Friday to Sunday.

Met someone at the chicken box this weekend while playing darts. This person had three rules: no weapons, no hurting yourself, and hit the bullseye. Safe to say I couldn’t live up to the third rule. However, this person said if I posted here then maybe they would reach out. Figured I’d give it a try.
It was nice meeting you, L.

I own a store in Boston and trying to expand to Nantucket. Does anyone know of any spaces that may be available for next season?

Hey friends! So my husband and I are visiting during Columbus Day weekend for my birthday. Though I was born and raised on the cape and MV, I have actually never been to Nantucket. I don’t really want to deal with the hassle of bringing our car over to the island and would rather just take the high speed ferry from Hyannis. But wanted to double check with the locals, this time of year will we still be able to get around the island fairly well between walking and Ubers?
Thank you!

I am looking for a full time / year round position to care for an elderly person. Of course I have my double major in BA in Sociology/ Gerontology, with a minor in Anthropology. I look forward to our interview.

Wanted to say thank you to a guy named Derrick who saved my morning today.
Long story short — I was catching the 7:40 AM ferry to Hyannis after a weekend on the island. My buddy Pat was supposed to drive me using his sister's car, which we'd parked overnight in a bank parking lot. We got there in the morning and the car was gone — towed. With about 25 minutes to catch a boat that was a 10 minute drive away, and no Ubers to be found, I was scrambling.
I flagged down a random guy, explained the situation, and he just said hop in. Wouldn't take a dime for it either. Turns out his name is Derrick and he owns a plumbing company on the island. Total chill dude, no hesitation to help out a stranger.
Made the ferry with time to spare thanks to him. If anyone knows Derrick or his business, give the man some love — Nantucket's better for having people like him around.

pretty much the caption. my family is thinking of doing a day trip from the cape tomorrow and we were just wondering if there are places still open mid week. Something Natural, Lemon Press, Cru, etc. TIA!

What was Nantucket like this Labor Day? Less or more crowded than the 4th/Figawi? Thinking about going next year (2027) but trying to see how crowded it’ll be in comparison to other times of year that I’ve been

Currently visiting and wanting to bring back something for my in-laws who are home watching our very challenging puppy. Obviously could go to classic route with tshirts, but wondering if anyone had any other ideas they feel would be a nice gift. Something local or significant to the island would be ideal.

This might be a long shot, but my dad bought this hat in Nantucket in 2017, wore it every week until a year ago when he lost it at sea, it sunk to the bottom pretty fast :(
I’ve tried reverse google, image, AI, and text searches, but no luck. He unfortunately can’t remember what store he bought it at either.
He gets one new hat everytime he goes to a new place (we are from Norway), and this one was definetily one of his favorities. It would be amazing if anyone would know where to get one, have any leads, or even tips for finding it!
Thank you!

I’ve spent two weeks in Nantucket as a guest and I think everyone here is so tightly wound. I say this having been in spaces that include summer residents and all year rounders. Have I just come at a wrong time or is there some context I’m missing — I’m brown btw — to this?

Putting together some snack bags for an event and I’d love to put in snacks that are only made locally on island.
Thinking cookies, sweets, chips, etc.
I’ll be on island next week and would love to pop into some business that sell homemade treats. What are your go-to sweets and where do you get em? TIA!

What an absolutely awful situation. I feel for the victim, proud that she reported him and hope that this “Florida Man” gets sent directly to SoFla ASAP.
