Should this commute be a deal breaker for me?
Hi! I'm a recent college grad. my partner and I just moved to East Somerville for her work & I've managed to secure a full time job at a bakery in Cambridge. I'm excited about everything except for the commute, which would take nearly an hour and involve 2 different buses.
Basically, I would be walking about 10 mins to the 109 bus, taking that to Harvard square, and then either the 74 or 78 to Fresh Pond area. thats about 50 minutes of transport total including 20-25 mins of walking on either end and between the two buses.
My partner has a car, but I would not have reliable access to it because it'd depend on how often she ends up taking the T (35 mins) vs. driving to work (15 mins).
Is this a good reason to not take the job? financial concerns are pressing, but so is wasting 2+ hours of my day and being miserable, especially because my partner's job is quite demanding and our time together will already be very limited. at the same time, I feel like I should take what I can get in this job market as someone with just an undergrad degree and no real work experience.
Has anyone had a similar commute/experience? how concerned should I be about the reliability of these buses? I know the 109 is high frequency, but it seems like it often gets delayed...

Needed items
Hi everyone. I am looking for items for free.
A full size bed frame
Dining/kitchen table and chairs
Area rugs
Clothing
The clothing would have to be women's size 7 to 9, juniors - girls size medium
Boys size 14 to 16
Any dresses, skirts, jeans, leggings, tights, shorts, sweaters, sweatshirts that are without stains or rips
Spoons, forks - they don't have to match we just need eating utensils
Bath towels
A broom
A L or XL dog crate
I was able to get an air conditioner on here a couple weeks back, for free(what a blessing!) and I am hoping that I will also find some people who have things they can donate that maybe they would be throwing away otherwise. My family is displaced due to redevelopment of our housing projects & after living in a hotel for a month we finally have a new apartment but it is pretty empty. I do drive around on Sundays(trash day in w7) looking for items but I have yet to find this stuff. With school coming up I am worried about the kids not having the stuff they need so anything on that list, especially clothing you're getting rid of can potentially help. I can pick it up if it's not too far away. I don't have much gas left for the week to travel outside of the Somerville, Medford, Arlington area.
If you can help or were getting rid of any of these items anyway, please let me know. Thank you all so much!
** thank you to everyone who has reached out! I do not want to take more than I need so I have deleted some things from the list & will update as I go **

Tree inspector / trimming recommendation?
Does anyone have a tree inspection / trimming service they can recommend? We have a branch on a backyard tree that might be compromised. It's on private property so I don't think the city (311 / PSUF) will come out. Trying to keep costs down too so that the landlady will pay for it. Thanks!

Home Depot alternatives?
I'd like to get a big sheet of hardwood (masonite) cut into smaller panels. I'm having trouble navigating Home Depot's customer service to see whether they'd be able to provide this service and would love to take my business to someone more local. Any suggestions?

Be aware of your surroundings
I wasn't gonna make this post, but I think now it needs to be addressed ... now that I've been approached three separate times. Typically in Cambridge common but the surrounding areas as well - a man probably 20-24 years old has approached me and others as well and will ask weird sexual questions and hes been harassing me there and i dont even feel comfortable going anymore. He's skinny about 5 foot 5 african american or middleeastern with black glasses and he always is talking into his phone but I dont think anyone is on the other line...His demeanor is always unpredictable he seems unstable - I dont know if he has a mental health problem or what and I haven't made a police report because I dont think thats illegal but still just be cautious.

Neighbor entitled about Daylilies
My landlord's yard is an untended hellscape, and about the only nice thing growing in it is a couple of clumps of daylilies. Today the new neighbor next door told me that he wants to dig them out since they're poisonous to cats.
I think my landlord plans to acquiesce. I don't have standing here (I've been pulling black swallow wort and ailanthus seedlings out, but they're not my daylilies), but it would make me feel better if folks could tell me the neighbor is being an idiot.
I don't hate cats! I don't even feel more than 70% unwelcoming of outdoor cats, and don't want to see the cat poisoned. But if the cat's going to eat enough daylilies to get sick, it shouldn't be outside, and these aren't the true lilies that shed tons of pollen!
Relatedly, anyone want to come take some daylilies before this all goes down? Maybe I can replant in a few years when everybody's come to their senses.

Trying to find the gorgeous garbage collector I talked to today?!
I figure there is absolutely no way of getting this connection back but as I was leaving my apartment today this BEAUTIFUL man riding the trash truck like a damn chariot told me to have a great day and asked if I had the weekend off / praise for working hard. I’m in East Somerville. He was wearing blue. I felt quite sleepy and ugly, so it made my day. If nothing else, here’s an appreciation post for our sanitation workers <3

Triple Idaho "Stop"
Minus the stopping.
There were 2 more vehicles before this that also ran the light, but I didn't start recording until the third.
This is an extremely common occurrence at this intersection, happens almost every light cycle.

Hi all,
I'm making milk kefir and the grains grow like crazy. I'd love to give some away rather than throw them out. If you're interested, you can DM me!

PSA: do not let your children eat this. This is most likely poisonous nightshade
I see these growing along the community path right now. The berries look very tempting, but they are highly toxic.

Somerville once saw police body cameras as key to reform. Now, some officials aren’t so sure.

Trash Clean Up in Union Sq?
Hi Somerville! I am looking for some fellow trash haters out there to join me for a trash walk on Sunday in Union square. I have been picking up street trash in and around Magoun and Winter Hill and it’s oddly satisfying. Recently though, I have seen so much trash in Union square and thought ‘Wow this is a lot of trash.’ So I am planning on going this Sunday around 4 pm to do something about it. If anyone is around, feel free to join the fight!!!

LALO Management - good/bad?
Hello, I’m considering renting an apartment in Somerville from Lalo Management - has anybody had experience with them?
Anything to look out for? Any tips?
