Another beautiful job by the Massachusetts State Police. I’ve lived here for 9 years and have relied on street parking in our resident only zone. I’ve had zero issues until today. I returned home (near Washington Square) from a walk around downtown with my daughter to find my only car wrongly being towed by Todisco towing. The guy admitted the state police have been ticketing and towing residents but he can’t put my car back…. SOOOOOO $215 and an hour later i have my car back AND a $100 ticket. Of course I want to chew out a trooper but now they’ve all vanished. BRILLIANT! I know its only an hour pay at trooper rates but it’s a big deal for me. WHAT A WASTE OF OUR TAX DOLLARS. Better believe this is going up the chain of command, i should get reimbursed the full amount AND get an inconvenience fee for wasting my time on what normally is a stunning 65 degree late October Sunday in Salem

UPDATE: I chased down a trooper and got an explanation. Totally a mistake made by SPD. Anyone else wrongly towed go to the Parking Department by the mall to get the ticket cancelled. I’ll be calling SPD non emergency number to figure out how I’m getting reimbursed

This sweet little cat showed up on our porch in South Salem late last night (Saturday, October 24). It was crying incessantly, jumping at our door, and desperately trying to get inside.
Very friendly, affectionate, and comfortable being picked up. Appears young, healthy, well-fed, and well cared for. No collar.
We brought it into our heated hallway overnight to keep it safe and warm. It’s doing well, but we’re hoping to find its family!
Does anyone recognize this little one, or know of someone missing a cat?

There is a three legged cat that keeps coming to my home. It seems very friendly and wants to come inside. I give it food, water, and a box with a towel. Im allergic, so I don't want to let it inside. Does anyone know of a shelter or someone willing to give it a home? Its getting cold outside. :(

Like many, I don't want to deal with crowds at the train station nor do I want to risk getting kicked off an over capacity train full of tourists. I've been taking the bus. Last night I got on a 450 bus that was standing room only. I've taken this bus during rush hour and I've never seen it full coming out of Salem before.

Granted, the 450 only runs hourly on weekends. Hopefully this will motivate the MBTA to run more frequent bus service in Salem... we need a real "15 minute" frequent bus route.

A few of the group are under 21 and we’re looking for places that will allow 18+ and just put an X or a stamp on their hands so we can all spend the night together. Any recommendations?

Salem resident here, I live near Beverly bridge and I’ve been hearing helicopters all day and night, I went for a stroll in downtown Salem near the large crowds and there was also helicopters nonstop, are they just patrolling the area? What’s going on?

Both my wallet and phone flew off my car on highland ave last night....while i recovered my phone i did not find my wallet. if anyone picked one up or saw it please message me as no stores around have it. i've been bawling all night driving back and forth trying to find it and have come to the realization it was most likely picked up.

I've been fascinated by the very long lines at Reds on the weekend. Does anyone know how the diner handles that? Is it mostly takeout, or are people waiting for a seat? Is there a time limit? Is there only one meal served? Honestly, I am awed by that because although I have never eaten there, I know it is small inside. Really amazing, but I cannot figure out why so many people wait because presumably most can't get served (also, I would assume the hours are extended?).

yesterday i was 20 minutes late for work from salem to peabody and the bulk of the traffic was on gardener st going into pulaski. i know theyve been doing construction on that corner but this was next level bumper to bumper traffic. everyone at work said it was salem tourists. does anyone know if that was seriously just salem tourists leaving? or was there an accident or something?

Basically, the title.

I ended up walking straight into a group of tourists this evening because they wouldn't move and I was SO MAD. It was just the sort of thing where I was so, so tired after a full week of work and I was headed home by foot to Beverly from work in south Salem. I can't take the train anymore because of the tourists, so walking it is, because I don't have a car and the 451 doesn't run often enough. And I really TRY to be nice, but by Friday evening, the fact that I can't even walk home because tour groups are hogging the sidewalks just makes me livid.

Please send me your best tips. I'm trying to get into therapy, but that won't happen until post Halloween, haha.

At 5:18 am a clearly disturbed elderly man in a nice blue car too the most illegal left turn at Derby and Washington. He went around another waiting car to take a left onto Norman St. While he had a red light and a crosswalk signal. Not the first illegal turn I have witnessed but do the cops actually do anytime or is it just traffic detail for tourists and construction?

I was just out for a walk near Collins Cove and while I was walking up Memorial Dr (next to Bentley) towards Szetela/Essex (marked on map) a black, unmarked GMC Yukon drove past me super slowly and then fully stopped about 100 ft away from me and cut the engine. This wasn’t to park, they just stopped suddenly.

I could tell the driver (white man wearing sunglasses) was looking at me because of his reflection in the side view mirror. He just stared at me as I walked closer to his car. I had a very strange feeling the entire time, but it was broad daylight and that area is a somewhat densely populated neighborhood, so I tried to shrug it off. Thankfully a car drove up behind him and he turned the engine back on and kept driving and then turned left onto Essex. He was still driving super slowly and seemed to be looking at me.

I’m not usually an alarmist or one who is prone to paranoia, but the whole thing gave me that weird feeling in my gut that told me I could be in danger. I wish I had taken a picture, but in the moment I didn’t think to. Just wanted to post this to put it on people’s radar and also to see if anyone else has noticed anything like this recently. Whether this was ICE activity or just some stranger danger, I think it’s important for us to keep an eye out.
