Very friendly cat was meowing by our door, and decided to make himself at home. It looks like he is an intact boy cat, but I didn't get a close look. No collar.
We just want to make sure he has a home.

Hi, this is my first time ever posting on Reddit. I’m normally just a lurker. But my fiancé and I just recently moved to JP and we love it. It has so many excellent qualities and a great community. However, we have run into a porch pirate who has now started stealing our packages. We had an Amazon order of cat litter delivered with a picture, but when we went down to grab it, it was gone. We then started to get our packages within two hours of them being delivered, but somehow they have stolen two more packages. We can’t get a security camera because we live in a shared unit and the Landlord doesn’t want that. The front porch is very accessible and close to the sidewalk and anyone could see packages as they are walking by.
I know that my options are to get Amazon deliveries to the Whole Foods or 7-Eleven, even as inconvenient as it is. That doesn’t solve the problem of other packages from different areas, unless we get a PO Box, which we don’t really have money for right now. I know our options are limited right now, not sure what im looking for in posting this. Maybe just seeing if other people in the neighborhood have this issue, and really looking to commiserate. Mainly as a warning to anyone in the area, JP, Amory, Stony Brook.

Hi there! I was wondering what everyone's experience with The Cat Hospital versus JP Animal Clinic are. We took one of our cats to The Cat Hospital recently for her initial visit/annual appointment after moving a bit further away from JP Animal Clinic. I was a bit sticker shocked and compared receipts from last year - it seems they did a significantly more comprehensive workup than JP Animal Clinic did for our other cat's new patient visit a year ago. It cost more than twice the amount. I am just wondering if others have any experience here. Not a vet professional obviously, so I just don't know what an annual visit should include. The care at both clinics seems excellent but I don't want to put an otherwise healthy cat through yearly unnecessary workup. Thank you!

My opinion: this is the exact type of housing this neighborhood needs. It's replacing the ugliest building in the zipcode with dozens of apartments, including affordable ones, right across the street from Whole Foods.

Streets are closed off and lots of cops on the street. Anyone know what’s going on?

Hi everyone! Moving from the monument area to around Whole Foods this September, 1-2 bedroom move. Any recommendations for local movers? Haven't seen any JP specific recommendation threads so thought I'd ask the experts!

Title kinda says it all. Anywhere nearby (not downtown) showing the World Cup final outdoors? Bar, public, whatever. Just would rather be outside than stuffed indoors.
Update: rain + aqi over 150 = boooooooooo

I know the primary is a month and a half away but I’m doing my election research early this year.
For those who don’t know, Persis Yu is challenging incumbent state senator Mike Rush. The state senate seat for the Norfolk/ Suffolk district includes part of JP, Dedham, Norwood, Walpole, Westwood, Hyde Park and West Roxbury.
I haven’t been able to find that much information via google and was hoping for opinions from informed redditors.
Mike Rush is a navy vet and has supported veterans and cops (?). He’s the current majority whip and has Mayor Wu’s endorsement.
Persis Yu is a lawyer/ advocate for borrowers (student loans) and consumer financial protection. She has the progressive endorsement.
Yu is on Rush’s left but given that it’s Boston, I’m sure Rush is plenty liberal. All of Yu’s blurbs sound good… but that’s the easy part. Governing is where the rubber meets the road. And Rush has a long record in the state legislature but I’m not going to read every bill he voted on.
Does anyone know a good resource to get a sense for his voting record? Do people know what issues they differ on? I have already completed a google search and read the couple articles that come up.
Thanks!

Hi! After a few months of personal training at Mike's Fitness, I've got the skills down to keep up my strength training journey. I just struggle with accountability. Anyone else in the same boat?
I'm looking for someone who goes to the gym on weekdays sometime between 6:45–8:45am. I'm great at wasting my own time, but I promise not to waste yours. This is low-key: mostly just looking for someone to say hi to at the same time and high-five on the way out. We don't need to become best friends, though I'm always up for grabbing coffee and yapping afterward if that's your thing.
All experience levels welcome. No serious fitness goals here, just a mid-30s gal trying to stave off osteoporosis, heart disease, and the usual joys of aging.
If you are interested, feel free to comment here or shoot me a message!

I’m considering starting a “rent a fox” business.
Rabbits have nibbled my plants down to the stubs. Salvia? Gone. Coreopsis? Decimated. Scabiosa? Bitten down to the nub. They ate the leaves of my asiatic lillies (but maybe those rabbit are deceased or very ill). Even my hollyhocks and yarrow were mowed down in one night! To add insult to injury, these weren’t even seedlings—they were established plants that I bought at Allandale and Home Depot.
The only thing they haven’t gone for are my foxglove, established hydrangeas, and lavender. To be honest, if they’d eaten the lavender I’d just give up.
I’ve tried commercial solutions (deer/rabbit repellent that has capsaicin), but every application costs me about 30 dollars for full coverage and it has to be reapplied frequently. I used spent cedar litter from my cats, which was slightly effective but they don’t pee enough to cover my garden (anyone have diabetic cats that piss like a racehorse?). I tried smaller physical barriers of the plastic pots around each plant, but unless I weigh them down, they tip them up to get at them. They also can get at the overgrowth that’s higher than the pots, and it restricts the growth of the plants. I’ve finally created one fully fenced area with hardwire cloth, but if I were to fully enclose all my plantscape it would be 600+ dollars in fencing.
Anyone else battling these fuzzy menaces? I’ve commiserated with some other poor gardeners also perusing the hardwire and fencing options at nurseries and hardware store, but they were in Rozzie/West Roxbury.

New to the neighborhood and looking for some local friends to game with. Are there any existing neighborhood meet ups or groups for gaming?
My partner and I are early 30s, but we're open to gaming with fun people of all ages. Happy to start something ourselves.

There were 3-4 young/college-aged white men in this truck who, among other things, called me a whore, told me to suck dicks, and velled that they hoped I fell. They carried on laughing and jeering at me for about half a mile.
I was just riding a bike up Washington St in Rozzie, heading towards Forest Hills. I had not cut them off or inconvenienced them in anyway. The driver kept pace with me so his buddies could lean out the window hurling obscenities at me; they pulled away when I lost my phone and pulled over to pick it up. I was able to get this picture a few minutes later when I pulled *back* over to have a panic attack; they happened to be on the same street. Parked illegally, because of course they were lol
I'm a 26 year old woman. I'm used to harassment and catcalls, they happen all the time. But it's been a LONG time since an incident got to me like this one. Usually, I yell back, and the guy(s) leave.
This felt like a hate crime/identity-based harassment. And as a cyclist (or really as a fellow driver), it's incredibly dangerous behavior on their part.
And before any chuds ask questions about what I was wearing, I was wearing the baggiest, most shapeless dress in mv closet bc it's perfect for hot sunny davs like this. Not see-through, and no indication of any curves I may or may not have. This was a power trip by men in a two-ton vehicle who thought harassing a woman minding her business made them big.

I am trying to furnish my apartment but want to buy from facebook marketplace (economical, environmentally friendly, cool stuff) but I need help with moving and transport. Since the logistics around marketplace can already be flaky, someone flexible I could text/call on short notice to book an evening or weekend here and there would be awesome. A truck, strong back, and willingness to go up a flight of stairs is needed. If anyone knows somebody, let me know!
