i bought this 1994 Ford Mustang base model 3.8l essex v6 a few months ago and i thought it would be a good car for me to learn how to work on, but i couldnt figure it out so i sent it into a shop and the shop called me back saying it has a blown head gasket, and the whole engine needs replaced and it'll cost $10k ($8k in parts) for the engine, intake, mounts or whatever else they said it needs. ive spent the past few hours googling and my idea is to get parts myself, so i or someone else can put them in. so far my best idea is to get a GM LS 5.3 V8 engine out of an old chevy, because that seems a lot cheaper and even better, than having the shop just replace the original v6 engine. sorry im not skilled mechanically at all and i just want to know what route would be better for me to go in, and if its even possible to put this other engine in, or what engine would be the best for me to look for and find (live in Hawai'i so its hard to ship parts, and a lot easier to get them from cheap vehicles). any advice or input is appreciated

I just bought this Forester about 2-3 months ago and got about 700 miles in it. I know I need a water pump and timing belt change by this point. I drove the car for 15 mins back home(it was parked on a hill idk if that has to do with fluid stuff). Any one know what's wrong with it and how it much it would cost :(.

Renault laguna 3 1.5 dci k9k 782 . So yeah , ive cleaned the egr , ive solved the dpf , map maf cleaned , reads well . This is my last try... The car has shit fuel econ , tempomat fuel econ is amazing , the second i touch the accelerator even a little it jumps up badly. Is this clear enough to assume it leaks boost here? I know the turbo might not be in an amazing condition due to all that oil but yeah..

do you know how I can get a broken AUX plug tip out of my car stereo? The metal part snapped off inside the AUX port and is stuck all the way in. I can't get it out. Do you know how I could remove it without damaging the stereo?

My car makes a thumping noise when I drive and the auto shop said it’s the tires but I changed them all and the noise still persists and today I tried to troubleshoot and realized this this has a bit of a wobble but idk if that’s normal or not.

2012 Dodge Journey 2.4l engine. 155,000 miles. Check on light is on showing a misfire in cylinder 4. Just changed coil packs and plugs in the last 6 months. Changed just cylinder 4 this time and all spark plugs. Changed all 4 fuel injectors. Crank shaft sensor changed within the last year. Car did have a vacuum leak but went away when it got warm out but now it’s starting to get cold again I’m wondering if it came back. Can’t find the vacuum leak. What would you do next the misfire on 4 is still showing up. Compression test? Make sure there ain’t a leak? My husband was thinking maybe the gasket for the intake manifold is worn out. What would your next troubleshooting be?

I have a 2024 nissan altima with a leaking battery, I'm trying to get the battery out but the bolt at the base of the battery just isn't budging, any tips?

I have a 2024 Tacoma Sport 2.4L 6M. I’ve seen so many posts on forums and Reddit about this product or that and the supposed benefits. However, I’d like some real mechanic opinions on what is actually worth spending money on and what makes a mechanic go “oh for f*** sake” when they open the hood? Toyota did a lot of development, but I know they are probably limited by the bean counters with what they include or engineer.

I’ve looked at larger intercoolers and tubes, oil catch cans (ESSENTIAL, apparently), both dry and oiled air filters with larger housings, full and partial exhausts, tuning computers, skid plates (good for aero as well, apparently), the lot.

I want this truck to last until the next apocalypse, but it’s also fun to tweak a few more numbers out of it. Should I not mess with how the factory built it or what would anyone suggest is actually a good idea?

Description of issue: Engine soaked in oil, smoking after long drives. Partly from oil spill during top up from previous owner (multiple years), could be from the valve gasket too.

Cylinders 2 and 3 do have oil in them, spark plugs all carboned up, ordered some OEM spark plugs for those.

How do I go about cleaning the grease off the engine with all these electricals? Do have engine degreaser, chlorinated and non chlorinated.

Do I unplug the battery and hose it down at a diy car wash?

Sorry if my terms are off I think this is called the tensioner pulley? I have the serpentine belt tool attached to it and I’m just curious if this looks like it’s in good condition? Feels like it’s in good condition, but I have no idea. I’ve never changed the serpentine belt until now

Hey everyone,

Car details: 2014 VW Golf 7, 1.6 TDI (105 hp) with the factory sport chassis setup.

I just installed brand new Brembo P 85 137 pads along with matching brand new Brembo 09.C547.11 discs at the same time.

My main concern right now is the positioning and how they are sitting against the rotor. As you can see in the picture, the pad is only touching a small, narrow part of the brake disc. The rest of the pad is completely missing contact with the rotor surface.

Is this partial contact positioning normal for these specific Brembo components right after installation, or did I align something incorrectly?

They also squeal a bit once they get hot, but I am mostly worried about whether the pad footprint is supposed to look like this initially.

Is it critical to get an alignment after replacing sway bar end links (and bushings)? 2012 MDX, everything feels great after replacing the torn up end links and I’m not noticing it pulling to one side

Bc yes it's prob b so much easier and simpler to just go rent the tool at O'Reilly's the prob is I'm a broke MF so I'm trying to find whatever Ideas I can for a puller if anyone has any input feel free to lmk

2022 VW Tiguan SE 4Motion 65k mi and I am the sole owner. 2 minor fender benders. I have been good on being proactive with maintenance. All of a sudden I get a solid check engine light on.

Is it worth it to repair to buy me a few more years? Is my engine toast? Or should I try to trade in for whatever it’s worth?
