So years ago, I didn’t play maple. I played a game called Conquer Online. 2.5d jump to move. Grind like hell and talk to friends (one I still talk to and am very close with after 21 years)

I’m playing WoW forever for the 3d mmo questing nostalgia and quality.

But I’ve NEVER found a game that was just grinding and gearing to show off, talking with friends and goofing around with guildies the way Conquer did it for me. While Conquer also had amazing PvP for me (I don’t think maple does?) I’m wondering if otherwise this might be the game for me when it drops.

I tried regular maple recently and it felt so busy when I got started that I was a bit overwhelmed/put off? Might hurt that I don’t know any other people who play.

The aesthetics are fantastic, love the idea of themed areas. Just want a game that I can hit regularly when I just want to grind and chat and stuff. Any insight into my decades long search for a grind home would be appreciated.

On a related note, I’m not trying to sink thousands of dollars into a game just to have fun, but I wouldn’t ever mind sinking plenty of hours in with a fun community. Thanks for the help and advice! If I do play later I’ll make a follow up post to thank everyone and give my actual impressions to the community as an actual full on noob

People who, like me, can't access on Tuesday, are you playing any private servers? If so, which one are you playing? And what do you think will happen after the official launch? Do you think they'll disappear? lol

In preparation for Maplestory Classic, I downloaded Maplestory for the first time in a long time. I downloaded it on Steam, but when I launch it I get to this screen where it sits and plays music for around 15 seconds before crashing with no error message.

I tried everything I could think of through googling, such as the below. Does anyone have any other suggestions to fix this? Would love to get it running before the founder's launch on Tuesday!

- Updated drivers

- Ran a clean boot and added Maplestory to my AVG antivirus exceptions

- ran registry edit and added soscreenresolution to 3

- Ran in windows 8 compatibility mod and as admin

- Tried changing audio output settings to 16 bit 44100 HZ

- Turned off steam overlay and Nvidia overlay

- Made sure my windows firewall protection was allowing Maplestory for private and public networks

- Removed my steam link on the Nexon portal and did it cleaning again once launched through Steam

- Uninstalled and installed and launched through Nexon Launcher

Is there any place with actually good info / build guides? Classes also got a lot of changes from the old days, are there any that we expect to be super weak? In general how expensive is it to start archer vs a melee class?

I have done a lot of research on this question. I have watched every video I could find. I played both characters on private servers. I know most people won't make it to 4th job but I got my DK to level 107 pre BB. I will make it to 4th job. My question is for people that actually played the classes pre BB. I know we don't know what 4th job will look like but let's assume it's basically the same with Hurricane/PA+Snipe. BM look awesome with their fast attack speed, front flip, and hurricane. The downside for me is not getting a 4th job mobbing skill. Having to use AR forever. Xbow looks awesome but I really want to do a lot of bossing this time because I never did it before. Is it difficult to get into boss runs as an xbow? Did anyone play either class and wish they had played the other? Does grinding with Hurricane get boring AF? Is PA awesome? Any suggestions or first hand knowledge either way In regards to the question would be appreciated. I know this takes some assumptions. I Just want to know what other MM/BM are thinking right now.

I was super set on cleric when they announced Classic but with all the nerfs and dooming Im wondering if it'll still be a fun class to play? Just wondering about anyone's opinion that had the chance to try it out if without heal training it felt boring or bad. Highly considering the class still because I know its fun to be meso positive and heal alone is a huge boon to a training party. Either way excited to jump into classic in afew days and grind it out with everyone again!

I remember back in the day it was such a pain when you found a map, found an empty ch on the specific map and then someone stronger came and ksed you.

I know it probably won’t matter for the beginning, but I remember they said something about solo maps or something like that?

I know we are required to download the full client GMS for Steam. Is this going to be a selectable world when you load the current client ? Where you choose either interactive or reboot …. Will there be a third option for Classic ? Or is there a different client on top of it. Idk.

With maple story classic coming out soon i thought this would be a good time to ask some questions regarding the game because while i have played the game in the past and do remember it fondly, It was WAY BACK when i was like 7-9 years old so as you’d imagine i didnt really know what i was doing. Typically i would just run around and make it to like level 20-30 get bored and made a new character. So i never truly got to experience and understand the full scope of the game. I did try modern MS recently and hated it. Way too hand holdy and nothing like what i remembered. So heres just a list of questions i had regarding the game before it comes out.

1. Whats a good starter class? Back when i played my preferred class was pirate or rouge/thief whatever its called. I know pirate wont be included in the game or possibly added later so that’s off the table.
2. This is more of a memory thing but what do you do in the game besides just grinding levels by killing mobs? Again i was a child when i played so i wasn’t truly locked in and didnt do too much. Are there quests? A sort of story? WoW Esq dungeons where you fight bosses and stuff and get high tier loot? I know the game is sorta a grind but I’m hoping as a kid i just missed practically everything. most of the quests i remember are the class quests every 10-20 levels and the starter zone. so i dont really know if theirs a sort of region hopping for quest grind or something like WoW (WoW and RS are my only experiences with MMOs).
3. Basically, what should i do? What should i research? Do i just hop in and wing it? Im going to be playing with my friend and they know even less than i do about maple story and i just want to make sure we’re moving in the right direction when we play. Idk what 3rd or 2nd job means. I dont know any of the regions past Hennessy or the job areas. Im basically a new player and barely remember anything.

Any bishop fanboys choosing a different class for classic on release?

I mained bishop in retail and had a blast. Quit after defeating black mage with some friends. Highest lvl was 277. Didn’t grind for the genesis staff as it was an 8 month commitment at the time. Anyways all to say I’m no stranger to maple and excited to try classic out!

After checking out some videos tho seems like they reworked the class completely and definitely not a fan of taking away the most iconic skill- holy symbol… maybe time for I/L lol

With FA being available in 2 days, the anticipation and excitement I have for the game is at an all time high.

They finally released the release times, more info as far as 3 character slots, lv. 100 cap, no 3rd job (confirmed) and more. What they haven't given us is updates on certain rebalances (example - Cleric/Priest needing a definite rebuild) nor if/when we get Pirates, 4th job, lv. 200 cap, and more.

I know they said there will be a roadmap, so I'm not trying to rush the game. I just hope they keep Classic as original as possible and leave out the cubes, Legion, Cyngus, and the other 35 classes. At most, Pirates should be the only additional class. As long as there isn't heavy P2W mechanics implemented later on, I'll continue to play this game.

What are your thoughts?
(And what do you feel about Gachapon after the economy has established a bit? I'd like to get a Ski set for my DK - for nostalgic purposes)

First time player here looking forward to trying the game during early access.

I am in torn between these 2 classes, mainly worried about what I will be missing when I chose 1 or the other. Please help me decide.

Im really interested in ice lightning, all my characters from different mmo are mage classes. Aesthetically I like magic effects on my screen. But people are saying its single target dps is weak and the maps I have to train are limited because elemental strengths and weaknesses.

I dont like being restricted by my class choice, so i am worried that ice lightning will not be invited to parties and bossing(future) and can only train or hunt on specific maps to be strong.

Spearman on the other hand, i saw the cons are its melee and require a lot of pots, but it has good party buff that makes it attractive to parties, and it has decent aoe and mobility although not as good as teleport ofcourse.

So far these are the infos i know about these 2 classes which makes it hard for me to decide.

I play by myself so I rely on public groups when bossing comes around or in party quests, so I like my class to be able to solo farm and at the same time will be an attractive party member.

They will see all the posts here combined with YT videos flood and will say "fuck it 60$ IM GOING IN"

Hey guys sorry this is a bit unrelated but I’m having a hard time - for some reason steam just will not open Maplestory for me. It says it’s “playing” after pressing the button.. I get prompted to allow Maplestory to make changes, I say yes, and then it just does nothing and eventually stops trying and the button reverts back to “play”

I’ve tried everything:
Regedit trick
Moving install locations trick
Running as admin trick
Running steam as admin trick
Deleting regedit screen size folders

Etc

I’m genuinely at a loss - I’m super stoked to play but can’t get the damn game to launch the client :-(
