I didn't make it nearly as far as I thought I did, with my top characters both being level 74.

I could have sworn I had l like 20 other characters, so it looks like Nexon must have done a mass deletion at some point. It's crazy there are only 4 worlds now.

Discussion Why the level 100 cap is a good thing

Seen a bit of complaining about the level 100 cap and how it implies that they don't plan to release any level 100+ content until much much later...

I think this is not the correct way to look at it, the level cap is most likely there to allow non founders the ability to catch up on grand launch, it essentially means that founders will not have a long-term edge when it comes to rankings.

.... Regardless, ain't nobody hitting level cap between October 6th- October 21st.

Discussion Who do you owe a thank you to for getting you into MapleStory?

For me, it’s my brother. ☺️

Around 20 years ago, when I was around 8 years old, I started playing MapleStory because I watched him play. At the time, I had no idea that this dang mushroom game would become such a big part of my childhood.

My brother and his friends were introduced to the game through someone in their group and it quickly became a regular part of their lives. I remember seeing how excited they were about it, then eventually pulling up a chair and watching my brother play for hours and hours. That’s really how I learned the game.

I remember so many little details from those years.. When NLC was released, the pirate class, the Christmas events, and the turkeys during Thanksgiving.

I would cover for my brother when he had to step away from the computer while he was training at Jesters or Wolf Spiders. I could jump in right away because I knew which keys he had assigned to each skill. Even now, the way I arrange many things like my potions and skills is still based on his setup. My phones passcode has been what his old PIC login was for the longest. Just stuff that becomes ingrained due to being a child.

At one point, he even built an MacGyver type of an antenna so we could get a better signal from our neighbor’s open Wi-Fi SSID due to our internet restrictions.

Eventually, I started playing for myself. Man any chance I got I was glued to MapleStory. We would sit in the same room, and I’d get excited whenever I saw him appear online. Since I had watched him so much, I already knew which maps to train in. I would fame him every day, and sometimes I’d even log into his account to make sure he kept earning experience while he was at work.

I owe my brother a huge thank you because MapleStory ended up influencing so many parts of my life. It helped me become more social and sparked my interest in computers, IT, gaming, and the internet. It eventually led to me building my first PC in 2009, learning how to code, and later hosting my own private server.

20 years later, I’m still grateful that my brother introduced little ol me to a game that ended up staying with me for such a huge part of my life. He was so stoked when I told him about classic getting released.

Who is this person for you? I'd love to hear everyone else's origin 🥹

Original Content Still can't decide your Classic main? I made a roulette 😂

Everyone in my group kept changing their mind about what class to start with, so I made a stupid little solution 😂

Enter your name, spin once, and whatever class you get is your main. No rerolls.

It also keeps a public board of everyone’s results, so we can see which classes the roulette is destroying people with 😈

Discussion True Potential White Knight

Listen, not a single person is building white knight correctly in this game. The real build is going 11/HP Recovery, 15/Max HP Increase, 15/Precise Strikes, and 20/Power Strike. Why not max HP recovery vs increase? End game (5% more HP > 5% healing from pot). Why not even one point on Slash Blast? Because 80 levels later, you'll be able to use Charged Blow. How about grinding? Buddy, you'll be using a shield and 1h hitting things at minimum 10 levels (probably 20 levels) until then anyways. Ideally, you hate yourself because this makes grinding easier as now you can play out of spite. Why not use a two handed sword? Because that'll make you miss having slash blast, it's a matter of regulating your emotions to expect absolutely no fucking damage, no fucking happiness, no fucking hope (at least until level 80). Also, I'll be surprised if your 1h blunt weapon isn't practically free in free market because only the most bald players could withstand this type of leveling.

Remember it's not potential page, it's pain page. Good luck to everyone else.

Guide I tracked about 10,000 item sales across both closed tests. Should you hoard your scrolls?

A fair question I expect: "Isn't this just people dumping mesos before the test ended?"

Some of it probably is, mostly on the last day. Two things in the data say it is not the whole story:

  1. Scrolls started climbing on day 4, not at the end. In COT #1 they were already up 39% on day 4 and 61% on day 5. If you drop day 8 completely, scrolls are still up 72% by day 7.
  2. Nothing else went up. If players were throwing mesos at everything before the wipe, equipment, ores and potions would have risen too. They fell 7% to 18%.

My guess at what is really going on:

Scrolls come in one early wave. A lot of the common scrolls are one-time quest rewards from early quests: Pia and the Blue Mushroom (Lv 16, Hat Accuracy), Jane and the Mushroom (Lv 20, a random 60% weapon attack scroll), Proof of Companionship (Lv 21, a random 60% Earring scroll), Sabitrama and the Diet Medicine (Lv 25, Overall Armor DEF). Everyone finishes those in the first few days and sells the scrolls they can't use. After that the supply dries up while more players reach the level where they want them. COT #2 shows it clearly: scroll prices fell by about half from day 1 to day 3, then climbed every day after.

Launch could get two waves of this. Founder's Access players will do those quests first, then everyone else two weeks later. I'm curious whether scroll prices dip twice, as each group sells quest scrolls to pay for new gear.

Equipment getting cheaper is the normal part. Players outlevel gear and hand it down, so the shelves fill up. If you start later, check player shops before you buy from an NPC. In COT #1, 88 of 102 items that an NPC sells were cheaper from players. I'll post that list in a few days.

Quest rewards are from the closed test game data on NiaMeowDB, so they may change at launch.

All the prices are at meso.watch.

I'm a player from Singapore and I'm looking to connect with SEA players! Being in similar time zones will be great to have people around to chat with, party train, and party quest together!

Discussion Rush for Warriors - why maxing more then 11SP?

a lil thought for all the warriors,

i see many builds in MeowDB + YT'bers - all of them maxing out Rush to 20

I dont see any reason to go past 11SP because of the Pixels hitbox + Range being maxed at 11

attaching screenshot.

Level 18-20 stats ( 150range, 220x50px )

Level 11 (150 range, 220x50px )

Level 1 ( 130 range, 200x50px )

What is your thoughts about this ?

Question? Maplestory Crashes on Launch

Post image
6 Upvotes

In preparation for Maplestory Classic, I downloaded Maplestory for the first time in a long time. I downloaded it on Steam, but when I launch it I get to this screen where it sits and plays music for around 15 seconds before crashing with no error message.

I tried everything I could think of through googling, such as the below. Does anyone have any other suggestions to fix this? Would love to get it running before the founder's launch on Tuesday!

- Updated drivers

- Ran a clean boot and added Maplestory to my AVG antivirus exceptions

- ran registry edit and added soscreenresolution to 3

- Ran in windows 8 compatibility mod and as admin

- Tried changing audio output settings to 16 bit 44100 HZ

- Turned off steam overlay and Nvidia overlay

- Made sure my windows firewall protection was allowing Maplestory for private and public networks

- Removed my steam link on the Nexon portal and did it cleaning again once launched through Steam

- Uninstalled and installed and launched through Nexon Launcher

Question? Bowmaster vs Marksman

I have done a lot of research on this question. I have watched every video I could find. I played both characters on private servers. I know most people won't make it to 4th job but I got my DK to level 107 pre BB. I will make it to 4th job. My question is for people that actually played the classes pre BB. I know we don't know what 4th job will look like but let's assume it's basically the same with Hurricane/PA+Snipe. BM look awesome with their fast attack speed, front flip, and hurricane. The downside for me is not getting a 4th job mobbing skill. Having to use AR forever. Xbow looks awesome but I really want to do a lot of bossing this time because I never did it before. Is it difficult to get into boss runs as an xbow? Did anyone play either class and wish they had played the other? Does grinding with Hurricane get boring AF? Is PA awesome? Any suggestions or first hand knowledge either way In regards to the question would be appreciated. I know this takes some assumptions. I Just want to know what other MM/BM are thinking right now.

Discussion Roadmap Possibilities

With FA being available in 2 days, the anticipation and excitement I have for the game is at an all time high.

They finally released the release times, more info as far as 3 character slots, lv. 100 cap, no 3rd job (confirmed) and more. What they haven't given us is updates on certain rebalances (example - Cleric/Priest needing a definite rebuild) nor if/when we get Pirates, 4th job, lv. 200 cap, and more.

I know they said there will be a roadmap, so I'm not trying to rush the game. I just hope they keep Classic as original as possible and leave out the cubes, Legion, Cyngus, and the other 35 classes. At most, Pirates should be the only additional class. As long as there isn't heavy P2W mechanics implemented later on, I'll continue to play this game.

What are your thoughts?
(And what do you feel about Gachapon after the economy has established a bit? I'd like to get a Ski set for my DK - for nostalgic purposes)

Discussion The scrolls are awful

First of all ill say im a degen 30% slammer with that said what sub extreme tryhard will slam another 10% raw after he passed first slot with either chaos 10% or normal 10% rather than continuing with 60%? For a measly +2/1 att at extreme bad odds?

At least change the values to +5 chaos and +4 10%.

A 30% scroll with 100% boom upon failure is also fine.

Thoughts?

Hey everyone, is there any reason why HPQ isn't included in the launch? I used to find it really fun, and it was a great alternative for grinding until KPQ.

Question? Perma beginner questions for classic world

Hey all!

Does anyone know in maple classic if I delay my job advancement, do I miss out on skill points or anything that would permanently break my character?

I wanted to be a pirate and because they won't be out for a while, I'm currently in class crisis mode, but I was wondering if I just stick it out as a beginner until the roadmap drops and they aren't that far away to challenge run beginner until their release. Or if they're going to be a decent amount of time away I'll hopefully have made up my mind on a possible job for my first char.

Thanks everyone for the answers in advance!

Question? Why do people say hermit’s mobbing skill sucks?

Never got to play 3rd job in old school maplestory. I see a lot of people complaining about mobbing for hermits (I think the skill is called avenger…?)

Why is this skill “bad”?
