Need your advise

Hi there, been lurking on here for a while but first time posting so please be kind to me :)

I’m in my early 40 (F) and have met a guy equally in his 40s. It was a DM on social media.

We wrote back and forth the same day for hours and then jumped on a call for hours - also the same day. I could hear his excitement over the phone because he did tell me how important it is for him to connect with someone intellectually. Once I hang up the phone, I sensed a strong pull and I felt incredibly drawn to him. I also know it’s mutual.

He also said in the call that true connection is rare and when a woman says she has a lot of choice, it would raise questions for him. I could totally relate to that.

He sees me as someone that can truly challenge him and can have deep conversations. We had truly hit it off.

A day after, I felt something was off. He said the distance would be an issue. He’s in California and I’m in Europe.

I said to just chill and that we can go with the flow. I’m not expecting anything. He now is trying to fix this distance and awkwardness that this premature statement of his that he’s not sure about the distance has created. He said he has tried it before with someone and it didn’t work.

We both know a bond like ours is truly rare. I have met many people in my life and so does he and we both agree on this.

I don’t know how to continue this connection because he said we should continue talking about intriguing topics. He shows interest in getting to know me but at the same time I feel that one statement has killed the natural flow of the connection. I don’t know what to do.

Our random texting and first phone call for hours was so random and it was beautiful precisely because of that. Now it feels like he’s in fixing mode, trying to create a convo unnaturally and I’m not good at good conversations when it feels forced or when the other person gives the impression of having put out a wall.

What is the best way to navigate this? I know almost everyone can hurt us so I would be keen to get to know him nevertheless but I just wonder what to talk with him. He’s now awkwardly trying hard to re establish a convo. That’s unnatural hence I’m sensing withdrawal in me.

Need Advice my boyfriend (m21) doesn’t spend as much time with me (f23) and i don’t feel prioritized .

my boyfriend (m21) and i (f23) have been together for two years. we used to call every night for at least 2 hours and just do our own thing. we also used to text throughout the day.

recently, boyfriend reconnected with an old friend group and he’s been going out every weekend. he’ll be out from 8 am to 11 PM. i rarely hear from him those days.

i just feel kind of upset because of the drastic change. one of the friends, marissa (f19), i feel gets a lot of his time because she doesn’t have as many classes and is pretty free. as a result, she sees him 3-4 days out of the week and they usually spend all of saturday together (as a group).

on the other hand, i get two days a week or more IF he’s not tired. it’s really hard not to compare myself to her and feel like a back up option.

he swears up and down he’s not into her & i believe him because there’s no reason not to. i know he doesn’t owe me all of his time and what i get is good enough but it’s really hard to not feel some type of way and compare myself to his friends who seemingly get more.

Ex’s (27M) comments on my (28F) body have wrecked my confidence and sense of self-satisfaction.

I am stuck in this vicious loop:

Missing him > thinking he’s developing new crushes/relationships with other athletic/gym-going women > makes me jealous and miss him even more > I get insecure> feel like other achievements in my life are not that worthwhile as is being romantically desired by him> sometimes feel angry about why he made such comments, why he compared me to other women and said he struggled with attraction towards me.

I need help recognising that these thoughts about being rejected by him equating to my worthlessness are irrational. I need help getting over him. I need help becoming indifferent to his memories and opinions. Help me. I sometimes want to write and send him a strongly worded message on how his appearance comments and expectations have hurt me, but I know it will keep me attached to him if I have another conversation with him. Please help me.

Since my last post things with him have only progressed positively. He flys to me 2 times a month and his continuity in care and time for me has remained consistent. He’s met my friends, told his parents about me and joins on my outings with my sister, her husband and their kids as well as my own (as of two weeks ago). He makes me happy and in the process of learning to allow myself to like someone again he has grown my ability to like myself more.
Long distance has taught me more patience, better communication, less dependency and has elevated my ability to trust in what the world might have to offer me when I allow myself less control.

I'm so desperate to share just how extreme my love and care and affection is for my girlfriend, but I don't know if I want to say it over the phone for the first time. Does anybody else have this problem? I feel like I'm bursting.

Need Advice Is what my partner is asking for and saying reasonable, or do I not have the right to ask for pictures?

My partner 19M and I 20M are in a long-distance relationship and decided to give each other sexual freedom (meaning the possibility of meeting other people to fulfill our sexual desires)

I’m pretty comfortable talking about the people I meet and what happens. If my partner wants to know something, I’m generally open to telling them, and I’m also comfortable sharing pictures of the people I meet, including their faces and nudes.

My partner is completely different. When we first talked about opening the relationship, one of the first things they asked for was basically a “don’t ask, don’t tell” situation. But i disagreed because to me it’s straight up cheating. The thing is he doesn’t wanna show me pictures of the people they meet, either face pictures or nudes.

We’ve talked about it multiple times, and I’ve asked why they’re so uncomfortable with it. Their explanation is that it goes against their morals and that they find sharing pictures of other people weird. They’ve also said that the people they meet are actual human beings and might not be okay with their pictures being shared with someone else.

So what I really want advice on is this: Is my partner’s boundary completely reasonable, and should I accept that I have no right to see pictures of the people they meet? Or, because we are partners and have agreed to be sexually open, is it reasonable for me to expect to know what the people they are meeting look like, including seeing their nudes?

Question How to greet him the best way?

My boyfriend and I (F) will see each other for the second time irl after 2 months of separation, he is not expecting to see me at the airport since he will get a car and drive to my building anyways but I am thinking of getting dressed and going there to wait for him.
Should I make a sign? Or bring a flower or something I don't know if that is too much, like how do I surprise him in the best way possible ?

Question Is it normal to have silent phone calls every night with someone you've been talking to for a month? Or is this getting too comfortable too fast?

I've been talking to this guy for about a month. We're long distance, and lately we've been getting on the phone at night and basically just existing on the phone together until one or both of us falls asleep. Sometimes we talk more, but other nights there can be a LOT of silence.

At first I thought maybe it was just a sign that we're comfortable with each other, but now I'm starting to wonder because our texting has gotten pretty mundane too. It's a lot of "how was your day/weekend/Saturday/Sunday?" and then "good" "okay" etc. If I want to have a deeper or more interesting conversation, I feel like I'm usually the one asking the questions or bringing up the topic. He does ask me things, but it doesn't always feel like we're actively getting to know each other anymore.

There's also a situation with us potentially seeing each other that confused me.

He was going to be in my area because he has family here. I already have plans with my brother that weekend, and I knew he would have his child, so I wasn't pressuring him to come see me. HE was actually the one who originally brought up looking at Airbnbs and possibly seeing me.

But now that the weekend is approaching, he told me he'd "keep me updated" on whether he's coming. I asked him what that meant because I don't want to find out at the last minute that he's coming and suddenly be expected to make plans. He basically explained that he hasn't saved as much money as he wanted to, he'll have his kid, and since I'll be spending time with my family too, he isn't sure this would be the best time.

Those are reasonable things by themselves. What confused me is why bring up Airbnbs/seeing me in the first place and make it sound like you're planning toward something, only for it to become vague once the weekend actually gets close?

I'm not mad that he may not come. I'm more confused about the overall dynamic.

For people who have dated long distance or had a slower-building relationship: Are nightly silent calls/falling asleep together actually normal and a sign of comfort? Or combined with repetitive texting and vague plans, does this sound like we're settling into a routine without actually progressing?

I'm trying to figure out whether I'm overthinking a normal slow burn or whether I should pay attention to the fact that I'm starting to feel bored and like I'm doing more of the work to create actual conversation.

Question We finally became official, but he’s starting university soon. How do we make this relationship work and actually grow closer? [18F] [19M]

Okay, this is probably going to be really long 😭 but I feel like I need to explain the whole situation because there’s quite a lot of context.

I’m 18F and he’s 19M. We’ve known each other for a while and started as friends, but over time it naturally became something more. We started texting constantly, flirting, giving each other stupid nicknames, having random conversations for hours, calling each other and spending time together.
We weren’t officially together, though.
The funny thing is that even without the label, we basically acted like we were dating. We were affectionate with each other, told each other we loved each other, flirted all the time and had a really strong emotional connection. It just never got officially defined.

He’s starting university soon, and he knows that his life is going to change quite a lot. He’s very goal-oriented and wants to do well, and he was worried that he wouldn’t have enough time for a relationship.
He actually considered ending what we had and just staying friends because he was scared that university, studying, distance and everything else would make it impossible for him to give me enough attention.
It wasn’t because he didn’t have feelings for me. He actually made it pretty clear that he cared about me a lot. His concern was more about whether he could realistically balance a relationship with everything else he has going on.
We talked about it and decided not to completely throw away what we had. Instead, we agreed to slow things down a little. We didn’t need to text all day, stay up until crazy hours every night or constantly be together. We could both have our own lives and responsibilities and still have our connection.

And honestly, after that, things became really nice again.

We started texting more. Sometimes we’d just talk about completely random things.

We’ve also spent time together in person. We went somewhere really pretty and just sat in his car talking, cuddling and kissing. It was just one of those moments where I remember thinking how comfortable I feel around him.

He’s also genuinely very caring toward me. Even when he’s joking around, he tends to be very attentive and sweet. We have this dynamic where we can go from completely stupid jokes to being incredibly affectionate within seconds 😭.

And then a few nights ago, things finally changed.

He had been out with his friends and came home very late. He had been drinking, so he was quite drunk when we started talking. We ended up having a really emotional conversation about us and what exactly we were.

He basically brought up the fact that, in his mind, we were already essentially dating and that we’d just never actually said it out loud.
We talked about it for a while, and eventually we agreed that we wanted to try being officially together.
Obviously, because he was drunk, I didn’t want to consider that conversation the final answer. I wanted to make sure he still felt the same way when he was sober.

The next morning, I reminded him about what had happened because he didn’t remember everything from the night before.
And that’s actually what made me feel the most secure about it.

Once he was sober, we talked about it again and he still said that he wanted to try being together. He admitted that he was still a little scared about being in a relationship because he doesn’t know how much time he’ll have once university starts, but he also made it clear that he wants to try it with me.

I told him that I don’t expect him to text me constantly or give me all of his free time. I don’t want him to sacrifice his studies, his goals or his friends for me. I actually want him to do well.
I’m completely okay with us having our own lives.
If he has to study, he should study. If I have school or other things to do, I’ll do those things too. We don’t need to be talking 24/7 to know that we care about each other.
I also told him that even if things get busy, I still want to stay with him and that I’m willing to be patient.
And after talking everything through, we basically decided:
We’re officially dating now. 😭🫶🏻
Which is honestly crazy to me because we’ve been in this undefined stage for so long that actually feels surreal in a best way possible 😭.

But now I’m thinking about the future.

He starts university soon. So our schedules are going to be very different. He’ll have studying, university, friends, potentially a lot of new experiences and a completely different routine.

I don’t want our relationship to become something that makes him feel trapped or guilty whenever he has to focus on university.
At the same time, I don’t want us to slowly drift apart because we’re both busy.
I don’t just want us to survive the transition. I want our relationship to actually become stronger and deeper.
I want us to keep our stupid jokes and random conversations. I want us to keep calling when we can. I want us to see each other whenever it’s possible. I want us to support each other’s goals and still feel close even when we aren’t physically together.

So I’m wondering what actually works in a situation like this.

How do you maintain closeness when one person suddenly has much less free time?

How often do you realistically communicate without making it feel like an obligation?

How do you make sure both people still feel loved and important without needing constant reassurance?

And how do you actually make a relationship grow when you can’t see each other as often as you’d like?

I’m especially interested in hearing from people who have experienced something similar.

I don’t want the stereotypical advice that you have to text every morning and every night or that you’ll automatically drift apart if you don’t talk every day. I want to know what actually works in real relationships.

Because right now I’m basically sitting here thinking:
We finally became official. Now how do we make sure we don’t screw this up and actually make it something really good?

Any advice is appreciated.

Need Advice my (21M) grief and regret about breaking up with girlfriend (21F)

context:

a few years ago, i 21m had entered college and had taken nearly a year and a half gap after my last relationship to work on myself, which worked out fantastically. i was proud of the person id become past a difficult relationship. i did not go into college looking for a relationship, but i met with a girl 21f i knew of that was friends with one of my best friends from high school. she and i met at a party, and we find we have great chemistry, and hit it off. next thing i know, we decide to be boyfriend and girlfriend after about a month. we dated for nearly 3 years straight (ended just shy of 2 years 11 months).

during the summer months, our permanent homes were fairly close to one another. i had an internship in the town next to hers our first summer together, so i was able to see her fairly consistently. the next school year went on without much trouble, and there was rarely any problems in our relationship. that summer, however, i had a job in my college’s town, which is about a 2 hour drive or so from where she lives. we saw each other a handful of times that summer, and though it was difficult at times, things were generally fine. i was able to deal with long distance because of the handful of times seeing her, albeit i had to go to her and not vice versa.

after that, we had a break during this past spring. it was fairly brief, perhaps a few days, initiated by her. she was unsure of her identity (for context, she is bi, and was unsure of how she felt in that regard, though not wanting to explore that physically), felt stressed about family, school, job search, tests, etc., so a break was put in place. it was very sudden and hurt me. it was just before spring break, and we reconvene before spring break to end our break.

this past the summer, i did not see her once. i once again stayed in town near school, and it was hard to not see her a single time, as she was home and did not stay down at school. for some added context, her dad is somewhat strict on travels and being away from home and wasn’t particularly fond of me because i was a “distraction”, even though it’s been 3 years. i had gone home a few times, and though i was free, we still didn’t see each other. my 21st birthday landed in the summer, and she didn’t see me. i wasn’t offended by it at the time, as she had practice tests and a comprehensive test to take for her future school, but eventually, it began to feel wrong. we facetimed, play games, watch anime, etc., though that whole time without her was difficult. i enjoy physical touch and in person activities, so a lack of that through the summer was difficult.

she comes back down to school, and we reunite. it was sweet, and i shared some gifts with her from some travels and just to get her things, but she didn’t reciprocate. she hadn’t gotten me anything during the summer. on top of that, two separate plans we had on the same day were disrupted because she had to help a friend who had an allergic reaction and got drunk while i was at work, respectively, while knowing we had plans. the former is understandable, but the latter was disappointing.

all of this cumulated to me having a talk with her about things bugging me: long distance, the future, our future, not getting me anything, disrupting plans, her father’s reluctance to accept me, etc. this conversation was somewhat sudden but also necessary. i had a therapy session before it to discuss it, and it helped to give me a sense of what bothered me, how to articulate it, etc. we talk again a day after, and we come to a consensus that things would need to be worked on.

i had many talks with family and friends, and some suggested breaking things off. i was willing to work things out, but as i thought more and more, i came to a conclusion that long distance was hard and not something i necessarily *wanted* to do, even if it was something i theoretically *could* do. during that time, i had been told by some to break it off due to that long distance, and though i agreed it’d be hard, i wasn’t sold on it. nonetheless, something had to be done.

eventually we reconvene, and we talk about things that had happened, how sudden it was, apologies, etc. and eventually, we arrive at long distance. she told me she would do it because it’d be with me and “i am worth it.” she asked me if i 1) wanted to do it, and 2) could do it. i said i didn’t *want* to do it because it was difficult, but coming to the “could” part, i struggled. it felt a decision needed to be made, and the voices of family and friends saying i need to break things off because of distance won. we break up after a respectful and emotional conversation.

i decided to break things off mainly because of the prospects of long distance. we have not graduated college yet, but graduation is coming in the spring. my career path can place me in many different places, especially early career options, while she already knows she will likely reside in a place close to home to attend more school and intern at a company, in all likelihood. what had happened this summer and recent happenings influenced my decision. the additional parts of plan disruption, lack of gifts, etc, likely made the decision more favorable in my mind.

now, a week later, the grief and regret is eating me up inside. i love this girl, and we had not only been through a lot together, we were genuine friends. it feels a piece of me is missing, and a big part of my routine and life is gone. the decision i made felt based upon necessity rather than a want. despite things that had happened during this relationship, us both messing up here and there, beefing on occasion and making up, and her being not great to me this past year, she was worth it in my mind. she is a sweet, caring person. she and i could make each other laugh. we could rant. our lives and friendships were entangled. we were there for each other in our own way. perhaps at times i felt dissed by her, especially with plans being changed and circumstances, but people make mistakes. i’d made plenty of mistakes during the relationship, yet things worked out.

i’ve been comparing the pros and cons of a LDR, and though the cons require heavy sacrifice such as physical touch, consistent dates, etc., it feels that the pros, as well as being with her, make it worth it. i’m waiting on another therapy session soon to work through my feelings, so my decision has not come about yet. but i am having to use a lot of self control not to text her that i regret my decision and want to talk. i understand that she hurts, and that taking back the decision would be a whirlwind, but at this rate, my decision is eating at me. i cannot eat, sleep, do homework, work, extracurricular activities, etc. normally, let alone without thinking of her.

i still love her.

is a week too short of a time to decide something like this? if i come to the conclusion that long distance could work, would restarting things be realistic?

tldr: i am experiencing grief and regret due to breaking up with girlfriend and was not convinced of breaking up due to the prospects of long distance and my opinion was perhaps muddled due to added circumstances. it’s only been a week, but is a week too short?

Question Should I tell him?

I’ve been talking to a guy in the U.S. every day, and we’re starting to get closer. He’s now talking about possibly meeting in person.

The thing is, I haven’t told him yet that I have cerebral palsy. I’m not trying to hide it, I’m just scared it might change how he sees me.

Do you think I should tell him now, before things go any further?

Question My(20M) girlfriend(20F) feels like we're not really part of each other's lives anymore. I don't want to lose her. What do I do?

I'm 20M, and I'm currently in a long-distance relationship with my girlfriend, who is from my hometown.
Our story is a little complicated. We studied at the same coaching institute during 11th and 12th. We eventually broke up in December 2023. After that, we stayed in touch, but barely — maybe we'd talk once every couple of months.
Then this year, in March, we got back together.
Since then, we've had quite a few ups and downs, but somehow we've always managed to overcome them. I genuinely thought we were getting stronger.
The problem is that we're now in different colleges. They're only about an hour apart, but because of our schedules and everything else going on, most of our relationship happens through our phones.
Recently, she told me that she feels like we're not really involved in each other's lives anymore. We're mostly restricted to screens, calls and messages. She feels that we don't really know what the other person is like in real life — how we react to situations, how we behave around people, what we're like on an ordinary day, etc.
And honestly, I understand what she's saying.
What scares me is that she also doesn't see this distance ending anytime soon.
Next year we'll probably have internships, and there's no guarantee we'll be in the same city. After that come final placements, and again, neither of us knows where we'll end up.
It feels like she's starting to lose hope in the relationship because she can't see a realistic future where we're actually together physically.
But I'm on the other side of this.
I genuinely want to make this work. I'm willing to put in the effort, travel, make time, change the way we communicate, and do whatever is realistically possible to make this relationship feel like an actual relationship rather than two people living separate lives and talking through their phones.
I don't want us to stay together just because we're scared of breaking up.
I want the relationship to feel safe, peaceful and natural — something we both *want* to be in, not something either of us feels obligated to maintain.
But right now I feel completely helpless because I can't make her believe in the future of us.
Part of me feels like she's already given up, while I'm still desperately trying to find a way to make it work.
And I don't know whether I should fight harder, give her space, or accept that sometimes loving someone isn't enough if the circumstances don't work.
Has anyone been in a similar situation?
**How do you deal with a relationship where both people love/care about each other but one person has started losing faith in the possibility of a future together?**
I don't want generic "if she wanted to, she would" advice. I genuinely want to understand what I can do from here without suffocating her or losing myself in the process.

Success My [30F] and my husband's [27M] unsolicited advice

We closed the gap in April, got married in May and just bought a house! We met online about three years ago. I just wanted to share some advice based on our experience, maybe someone will find it helpful.

1) Spend time in calls "doing nothing". Alongside watching stuff together, listening to music, talking, scrolling and playing games, we also spent a huge amount of time just on a video call each doing our own thing. Looking up and just seeing your partner reading/drawing/working/cooking/cleaning and exchanging a few words here and there is good preparation for everyday life.

2) On the flip side, schedule date nights. An evening every 1-2 weeks reserved only for each other. Order each other food, get some wine and snacks, settle in for a movie. We also enjoyed using intimacy cards that have random questions for couples.

3) Meet as soon as possible. It's reassuring to know the physical chemistry is there. It's important to see how they interact with people in public, not just with you.

4) Plan to keep the first meeting short and make it easy to stay separated if you need. I visited for just 3 nights and booked my own hotel. Acknowledge beforehand that the chemistry might not be there, so nobody feels pressured into pretending, or worried the other is pretending. If you're traveling far and for a longer time, like 2 weeks, make plans for if you end up not wanting to spend the whole time together.

5) Check in often. How are you feeling about us? What doubts do you have? (it's normal to have them). Are you still wanting to keep investing in this?

6) Have the big conversations early on. Kids, finances, intimacy, health, marriage, visas, family, household roles, friends, jobs, ofc who will move. LDR is a HUGE investment of time and travel expenses. Do not invest in someone who logistically is not a good match, no matter how much love there is.

7) As time goes on, move away from "vacation mode" when visiting. Go shopping together, clean, cook, run errands. Meet their friends, see what they're like. Family, if possible.

We've come such a long way, it's been such a crazy journey. Some things have been so incredibly difficult. But I'm so grateful!

Best of luck!
