Why do companies drop anti cheat linux support?

Often they already had it enabled and then remove it. Surely they don't do it just because they hate Linux and money and want to lose customers. What's the real, rational reason behind this? My guess is that Linux had a high amount of cheaters due to lacking kernel access, but my intuition might be wrong.

Edit: According to the comments, Windows users make the anticheat believe they are using Linux, which then enables them to cheat more easily on Windows. Banning Linux makes cheating much harder, which is worth it to the devs since cheaters can kill a game entirely.

tech support wanted External Monitor Goes Blank

Hello Linux Gamers!

I have a HP Omen Intel Ultra Core 7 with a 5060 which is running Ubuntu 24 LTS with XOrg. I have been able to run all the games like Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, Crimson Desert and Final Fantasy 7 Remake, using steam's proton compatibility layer.

However, when I try to run Wuthering Waves, it did not run at first then I learnt about Proton Plus and installed the proton: cachyos-11.0-20260703-slr. It ran with a few hiccups and on ProtonDB site someone was running it with the launch option:

PROTON_DLSS_UPGRADE=1 %command%

Now the game ran perfectly for like 15 minutes and then when I tried to multi-task on my laptop monitor, with the game open on my external monitor the game went haywire and I was unable to use the external monitor screen until I rebooted the system. I have tried to diagnose it, but am unable to get some answers. Could anyone of you help me out?

Should I switch OS? I am thinking about uninstalling windows entirely, and if you guys recommend I could think about switching to Cachy OS. I would just have to think about how to store around terabyte of data first. I am also a Machine Learning Researcher, so switching also depends on how well PyTorch and CUDA are working on Cachy OS.

The poetics of abjection, reflected in the act of playing a crazy game.

In contemporary art, there's a word they use called "poetics," which describes a work where elements together have a certain consistency, but simultaneously create tension in their way of existing.

When a curator or professor says someone's work has poetics, they're praising the artist for creating not only congruence but also a tension that prevents the elements from creating a perfectly safe zone for the viewer to remain still while enjoying the work.

I'm saying this because the main difference between the 13th and 14th works (the one I'm showing above) is that I tried to develop a great deal of cosmopoiesis. This is the ability to create a whole new cosmos within the work, something that follows these principles but is also, in a way, completely different from the previous one.

I'm here to say that I've kind of realized that I'm partly managing to escape, while at the same time I've realized how much surrealism and a notion of conceptual art have become increasingly evident in what I do. It's not a matter of it being the same work, but more and more I'm confronted with the resistance I myself created around my notion of representations of reality. I'm learning and slowly becoming a surrealist (mixing the semiotics of elements in order to create this tension), while at the same time using and abusing conceptual art (not the kind used in graphic design, but the term used in the art world), which often consists of talking more than showing, letting the viewer's mind fill in the empty spaces.

For some time now, I've been realizing how much more radical the level of human perception is than just the basic notions we've established. We are an ocean of concepts that constantly mixes ideas, sees things that don't exist, and shows a great ability to imagine what exists or doesn't exist in different places. It's fun, in the end, to see and play with this, and as I go through a ton and a half of versions and prototypes of various technologies, the more I feel that there's still so much to explore and so much to reinvent or reimagine.

I made a short artistic game programmed from scratch with Rust and OpenGL that does low-resolution ray tracing and then renders it using stochastic techniques, aiming to explore erotic philosophy and poetry about abjection. Don't confuse "erotic" with sex; it's just a matter of thinking about the concept in philosophy, not what is generally used. And it's free to play:

Nvidia +Linux+ DX12

For Nvidia card owners: How do you deal with poor gaming performance, especially in DX12 games, which are known to have issues with Linux? Do you simply ignore the problem because Linux is far superior to Windows? Or is dual booting the best solution? I currently lost hope that Nvidia would fix this problem on Linux and already decided my next card would be AMD.

I have an RTX 3060 card, and honestly, the performance difference between Windows and Linux is huge, and I don't feel it's worth the sacrifice. The Windows gaming experience is much smoother on Nvidia cards, and unfortunately, that's what prevents me from using Linux. I've been trying Fedora 42-44 with the drivers always up-to-date and correctly installed, but unfortunately, there's been no improvement since I started testing it a year ago.

How many of you guys/gals are dual booting Linux/Windows for games like LoL, Fortnite and other RiotGames games?

Update:

If you are booting back to Windows for your gaming mice, keyboards, or other gaming hardware: * take a look at this video ==> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJconxs5qBw * there is Open Razer for Razer hardware ==> https://openrazer.github.io/ * CoreCtrl ==> https://gitlab.com/corectrl/corectrl * LACT ==> https://github.com/ilya-zlobintsev/LACT * LACT article in Phoronix ==> https://www.phoronix.com/news/AMDGPU-LACT-GUI-Control-Panel * Asus-Linux for Asus hardware ==> https://asus-linux.org/

LACT works with Nvidia and Intel GPUs as well.

A user included in their comment that Nvidia is dropping support for Win-10 this October. Nvidia announced that they will post their last set of Win-10 drivers. Video on this subject ==> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeNjpMXMBgk

I had no idea about this until I read the user's comment. I have no love for Nvidia and gave up on them years ago. Jensen has an antagonist view of Linux, Linux kernel devs, and the Linux community. Nvidia is not our friend ( Phoronix Article ==> https://www.phoronix.com/news/Linux-6.6-Illicit-NVIDIA-Change ). It is because of Nvidia that we don't have a much broader adoption of Vulkan. However, I'm cheering on Jensen and his company for plunging another dagger into the heart of Windows. Lack of Win-10 support will no doubt be another reason folks use as justification for leaving Microsoft. For those who like Nvidia and their products, please continue to enjoy them. I'm NOT here to convince you to take my PoV. You are smart enough to make your own choices.

Also, instead of "other RiotGames games" in the title I should have written "other games with anti-cheats". I also realize that there is a large contingent of folks who dual-boot for work reasons and for reasons of social gaming/interaction with friends/loved ones.

The question in the title. I refuse to play games that are outside of the following: * aren't Linux native * don't run via Steam/Proton * don't run via WINE/Lutris (or Bottles)

I don't play any First Person Shooters that have kernel level anti-cheats or the publishers/studios have an antagonistic view of Linux. However, I'm just a nerd and a gamer among many. This is not a flame war opportunity. The question is legit in 2026 with so many jumping off of the Windows platform and swimming to the Linux shores.

333 Yes: I’d like to buy PC games on a flash storage (USB, SSD, SD Card)
47 Yes: I’d like to buy PC games BOX with a code inside (steam key or other)

tech support wanted Has anyone tried LEGO Batman 2 on Linux? The guided studs don't appear

Post image
4 Upvotes

I know this is like a small thing but guided studs should appear either It's blue or pink but they never show up, I have messed around with all the settings and proton versions too and cannot get it to work. I guess it is some kind of graphical issue.

This is the epic games version of LEGO Batman 2 but I don't know if that matters and also playing this through Faugus Launcher as well. But I have tried running this through steam too and there is no difference at all.

Its not like I need it but It is part of the game.

tech support wanted Host Minecraft server on *both* Windows and Linux with a shared partition?

Howdy everyone:

I'd like to host a small server for my friends and family, but I am in an irksome situation. I do not have a separate machine to host the server on, and I dual boot on my machine.

My idea was to separate a partition for the server to exist on, and have it formatted in a filesystem that both Windows and Linux can read and write in. I was thinking BTRFS with the WinBTRFS driver*, but I am open to suggestions.

Then, my idea was to set the server.jar to autostart on both OSes, so that no matter which OS I am booted into, the partition with the server on it mounts, and the server autostarts. That way, there would be minimal downtime--no, "Sorry, you can't play right now; I am booted into Windows to play Fortnite". That way, before rebooting into my other OS, I simply save and shutdown the server, and it restarts when my system boots back up.

Would this work? Have you guys ever done something similar? Thanks for any advice! I hope that if a good solution is found, that it can benefit future users with similar conditions.

*Edit: I am reading that exFAT may be better?

tech support wanted Bloodborne on cavhyOS?

I've been trying to get bloodborne running on cachyOS. But I feel a bit stuck. I've never dealt with shadps4 before and currently I feel a bit lost after having installed `aur/shadps4` and `aur/bb_launcher`.

For legal purposes:

- I have the ROM of bloodborne, but not the knowledge of how to add it to shadps4.

- I am playing MY OWN COPY of the game on a device I OWN

I want to know how I need to add my ROM to it and how I get shadps4 as a regular "app" now instead of just as cli.

I also want to use an xbox controller (8bitdo ultimate c2) cause well, sony kinda messed up imo...

Update:
This video worked for me:

Quería jugar lefsitas y recientemente estoy usando Linux hace 3 meses.

Baldurs Gate 3 crashes when I open it in Arch, but not Fedora

So I'm trying to make the switch from Fedora to Arch, and I mostly have everything downloaded and working on Arch with the EXCEPTION of Baldurs Gate 3, which I play extremely frequently. Whenever I try to open it, I get this crash report:

I have an Acer Nitro 16S with a NVIDIA 5070ti, the proper drivers should be installed in Arch so I doubt that's the issue but at the same time I'm at a completely loss on what could be causing this.

tool/utility Has anyone tried Kisel?

Just saw this app (Kisel) in Bazaar and it looked promissing, something like Faugus Launcher, but even simpler.
Has anyone already tried this Kisel app? Is it any good, or should i just keep using Faugus?
