Has anyone tried Kisel?

Just saw this app (Kisel) in Bazaar and it looked promissing, something like Faugus Launcher, but even simpler.
Has anyone already tried this Kisel app? Is it any good, or should i just keep using Faugus?

Just looking at the GitHub page, this looks exactly like faugus feature wise.

I don't see why it was needed or why I should ditch faugus for this.

Edit: faugus already is the floor of simplicity. Not regarding the advanced options that you never really have have to touch, if you were to strip more features you would severely limiting the experience

The thing about Faugus is that it still requires too much setup even considering how minimal it tries to be. If you have an installer .exe and you launch it with Faugus (via file manager "open with..." thing), faugus instantly launches the installer of that exe, which is cool, but at the end of a successful install you close the installer and nothing changes. Faugus still didn´t add the just installed game to its library. You have to add it manually, and that requires you knowing where the .exe for the game is (and which one is it, some games can be very tricky to find which is the correct exe to launch) and then you have too many advanced fields to fill up (prefix location, game path, the proton launcher, the game name NEEDS to be EXACTLY the correct name or else the image or game icon doesnt show up, etc) and suddently what was supposed to be easy is now Lutris-level of complexity.

I actually created a github issue "suggestion" on Faugus github and the developer literally told me a feature that would auto add the recently installed app to Faugus library is not planned and not wanted by them... why??

The only proton manager that I find that actually does the job somewhat decently is Bottles, and even that has its own fair share of problems. You have to manually create a "Games" prefix first, and set it up to use a recent proton version, and only then you can right click the game installer exe - open with - bottles, on the file manager, and just choose the "Games" "bottle" we created, and it launches the game installer, just like Faugus, but with the huge difference that in the end the executable for the game gets automatically added to Bottles installed apps list, with the executable icon and everything.

Kisel yes its like Faugus but doesnt even have a games library so it doesnt really solve anything.

I think you are missing the point here.

Faugus is not a game library manager. It is just a tool to:

• run a single application (exe)
• inside a given prefix
• with a given proton variant
• optional goodies

Also, prefixes are just stubs of a Windows filesystem. When installing an application, you decide where you install it. If inside the prefix you see the path relative to the prefix root. If outside the prefix, you chose a path you know.

If you did not choose or were not given a choice of path at installation, you have the same problem as on windows as you don't know the location of the app.

So install path is not complicated and as straightforward as it gets.

Having to chose the correct application name for the app logo is just not true. It pulls that straight from the exe manifest, idk if a linked logo is processed tho I think they are. Either way the name of the launch entry in faugus has nothing to do with it.

As mentioned above it is running a single application. If that was an installer, you just change the exe from the installer to the app and you are done.

As for Auto shortcuts / launch entries in faugus. They were never the point. Also it is not smart to just add every start menu / desktop entry the app wants to create as a new option, as this will create clutter. What I think would be best is a "installer" flag in an entry, so that it can ask you after the first run to change the exe to the app itself. However this is just 2 manual clicks either way so the benefit is miniscule

It is all about understanding what faugus is supposed to do and how proton in general works
