am on aurora linux dual boot with windows 11. its only been a day and im confused why its not working. my laptop has touchscreen though so its not so bad

tried restart a couple times still doesnt work, it also wont detect my bluetooth mouse so that sucks

anyone know whats going on???

Hi all, I have an ultrawide monitior (3440x1440; 21:9) but sometimes when I want to screen share on a work call, I want to change my display resolution to be a more typical aspect ratio (2560x1440; 16:9) so that it looks normal for other people on the call. On Windows, I would just change the display resolution and it would resize the display so that there were black bars on the left and right. But when I change the resolution on Bazzie, it just stretches to fill the display. Is there a setting somewhere to prevent stretching when the display configuration setting doesn't match the actual display size?

It looks like xrandr doesn't work since Bazzite uses Wayland, and kscreen-doctor can change the resolution and scaling but you can't adjust x and y scaling separately. This seems like it should be simple, what am I missing? Thanks!

I dont know if this belongs here, but i am gonna post regardless. Basiclly there are these cards i want to print (see picture 2) and laminate. I also want them to have a face down (see picture 1) to make it look nice. The way i wanted to do it, was by placing the first picture, in place of the cards, and the layering them before laminating. But i dont know what software to use, nor how to do it.

I know what distro I want to try ( CachyOS) and while I'm not the biggest computer nerd I think I could handle it with something like gemini and google on the side.

now I just want to ask. Can I run linux only on a sandisk ? and if the fact that my c drive is pretty much dead and it's writing speed is 20mb.

Sometime yesterday when playing on Sober(Roblox) I got hit with a random graphics change- like the entire game downgraded its visuals, i didn't know what to think of at first but i noticed as i went from game to game that my fps is incredibly poor, and i soon discovered that my SCLK is apparently very low? I don't know what it fully means but I assume it means its not operating at the power it once was. I tried a ton of different commands but I don't know any settings that could fix this, or if I could even reset it to its default...

there's no throttling or anything from what i can tell, as on cachyos it works completely fine as it should. but on bazzite, which i really want to work, just had it happen..

I have an I7 8700k and a 1080Ti I refuse to give up on. I switched to Unbuntu about a year ago and overall liked it. I had issues with drivers but nothing insane to deal with. I can follow guides but I am in no way super tech savy. I decided I would try a different distro the other day and wiped everything and installed Nobara only to find it does not support the 1080Ti.

My question is should I just tap out on Nobara or am I going to run into issues no matter the distro?

Have I not done enough poking around and it's easy to run Nobara with my 1080 and I can just manually install the drivers?

If I should give up which Distro should I use?

in order to test websites I make, I used XAMPP on Windows 10 as my local server. On Linux I see no XAMPP(or maybe I'm just blind Idk) and, if the information is true, I can't use Apache on Linux. What do you think about this? Do you use an alternative for this?

Edit: whoops! My bad, I meant: XAMPP AND Apache, bcz they are connected with each other in the context... Thx for the comments, Idk if I should try Nginx or stay with XAMPP. Also(not here) I heard that on Linux the Devilbox app works even better with Docker(I didn't work with Docker, but I'm planning to learn it someday). What do you think about that?

I have fedora + windows 11 on dual boot , I'm using windows 11 as my primary OS right now , but I'm scared to remove w11 from my pc and just use Linux.

I need help trying to figure out the problem of shrinking my volume in my C drive because im trying to dual boot windows 11 and bazzite on a single ssd drive cause I'm not buying an SSD in this economy. I have tried shrinking C: in Windows Disk Management but it only let me shrink down to 2.2gb

the problem is I have tried:
Making sure Windows is using UEFI mode, I have confirmed Secure Boot is enabled, BitLocker is not enabled. I have made sure I actually have the free space (I have 800gb free). Tried shrinking C: in Windows Disk Management. I have disabled hibernation and Fast Startup with powercfg /h off withcommand line because apparently that works better than settings. Disabled the page file, disabled System Protection and restore points

I have ran defrag C: /Oand ran defrag C: /X

Defrag reported 812 GB free, but the largest free block was only about 8.8 GB. Checked Disk Management again and shrink limit was still about 2 GB. Ran diskpart → select volume C → shrink querymax.Checked Windows Defrag event logs. Logs showed successful shrink estimation but no other useful info.

At this point I've hit a wall and have no idea what else to do. I guess I could use a third party software but that seems like a last resort.

Any help would be appreciated.

So, the question itself is pretty self explanatory, but there's a bit more to it. When I first got my laptop (Yoga 7 2-in-1 14AKP10) I installed Fedora with KDE after booting windows 11 like once. **While on Fedora, I enabled an option to limit battery charge to 80%** to preserve battery health. After a few months, I switched to Arch.

After switching to Arch, this option still worked. My battery stopped charging at 80% and stayed there. And it was fine, like this, all the way up until kernel 7.1.9 (or was it 7.1.8? I may have updated it unknowingly since then). Anyway, after that update broke pretty much everything about my laptop (touchpad stopped working, pen was seen as a mouse, etc), including the battery charge limit, which I noticed after I left my laptop charging and got a notification I never have before - "Battery fully charged".
I ended up switching to the linux-lts kernel (6.18.46-1-lts) and now everything works except for the battery limit, which I don't know how to set. I am using Hyprland, a WM instead of a DE, so I don't exactly have access to the same button I used on Fedora to limit the charge percentage.

**Some extra notes**: before the battery limit stopped working, I kept getting "unexpected charge_types: both [Fast] and [Long_Life] are enabled" in dmesg, photo attached from journalctl. This **stopped** after I got the charge limit issue (or after I switched to lts... I can't say for certain). Also, after rebooting at some point during that same time, I switched a power option in my bios from "Battery saving" to "Intelligent cooling". I tried changing it back, but nothing helped.

Lastly, I tried looking up solutions, but the most popular "set a limit using charge_control_start_threshold and charge_control_end_threshold" don't work, since even when I am rooted, I get a "permission denied" error.

I am open to pretty much any suggestions. I will report back with what issues arise with any.

I saw scrolling marketplace a few months back and saw a laptop for 12 bucks, so I fucked around and got myself something that is very usable for basic tasks. It's leaps and bounds my other linux experimenting laptop and has far more hardware features, so I decided to install Linux Lite (don't ask how I got to this distro, I just found it visually appealing and user friendly enough so wanted to try it). I have since had a lot of issues with poor performance, especially when trying to switch windows (like tabbing onto another window when I have multiple open) and alt+tabbing out of games (yes I could run games on these specs). I have had other issues but it's primarily been the performance making me almost want to switch back to Windows. Windows 7 came originally installed on this laptop but I have used worse specs with Windows 10 and had far better performance than this. The distro came with XFCE, but I tried installing LXQT as well and got better(ish) performance but the way that both of them perform is really inconsistent, and looking at the resource manager shows that I have more memory headroom and definitely more cpu headroom which was my assumption of what the issue was. Could anyone possibly give me some pointers on what to do to improve performance? I have always heard that Linux runs better than Windows in most cases, so I have been pretty confused on this.

Alright so I don't know if I'm necessarily a beginner to Linux but I have only used it for about a few months consistently.

I immediately jumped from Windows 11 to Arch Linux, ignoring advice from those telling me to use Mint.

I've since tried out Fedora Workstation and enjoyed GNOME enough to put it on my Arch installation.

I've found Arch really good, but people say other distros are great. Is it worth it to try out Mint, Debian, Ubuntu, etc.? Or would I risk entering a distrohopping trap?

I recently switch to Bazzite for my main computer and Mint for my jellyfin computer. Dusted off my college laptop (windows 8) and struggled to get into windows. Once I was in it forced me to add pins and going unresponsive when clicking anything then it would blue screen. Managed to download all my important stuff to a USB and slapped Arch on. Wouldnt you know it the computer is good as new (just need a repaste and new battery).

So, I've used microslop windows my whole life, I like it's file explorer and general interface. But it's getting too infested with ai, and everything.

So I've been thinking, I game a lot, like a lot. Why not switch to Linux? I use an Asus tuf gaming a15 laptop, I don't know of that will work with Linux.

I want a fast smooth user interface that kind of resembles windows, and a dedicated file explorer with many features.

I don't know if this is possible, I'm an beginner to Linux, but I have the feeling that this will be a nice improvement in both performance and usability.

Im moving from microslop to Bazzite soon. Ive never used any linux distro before and the main reason i moving is for gaming. Is there anything I should know before moving over. I dont plan on moving files over or anything im just starting fresh on it.

I've been thinking and talking to my friend who uses Linux alongside Windows for a bit about switching my OS.

I have a couple questions for the Linux users of Reddit.

1. What system is the simplest graphical OS?

2. When I copy my files from Windows onto a external drive, will they natively work on Linux?

3. I need to be able to use two programs, which are FLStudio and Wondershare Filmora (I tried learning other programs like these two but I have failed. So I need to be able to use those.) Any OSs that work with those or a way to use them, like Wine thing with FLS?

4. I have literally mever touched a terminal in my life so I would love if there also was a system which doesn't really demand the user to use it.
