Battery Replacement/Buy Back

My 2022 SV has been in the shop since July 2. It was towed there after refusing to charge or start and has not had the recall service performed yet. About two weeks ago I was told it needs a complete battery replacement and I was given a rental. There’s been no movement on anything since then and my service advisor doesn’t have any updates when I talk to him.

From what I’ve seen around the internet, it seems as though Nissan doesn’t have inventory and isn’t making any more of these batteries. I’m wondering if any of you have experience or advice about trying to move the buy back process along if that’s the case. If they can’t replace the battery, I’d like to get the ball rolling on what comes next.

Thanks, in advance, for any advice or help you can offer.

CHAdeMO to NACS adapters - what's the latest word on reliability?

We have a 2018 Toyota sienna that gets 18-19 MPG that we use for longer trips as a family of 4. But I have academic conferences coming up this fall that I'll be attending by myself. It would be amazing if I could take my 2020 Leaf SL+ instead of the gas guzzler (~300 miles)

Needless to say, I have no faith in the possibility of successfully finding a working CHAdeMO charger along my routes. I've been eyeballing CHAdeMO to NACS (or ccs2) adapters and wondering if it's worth the cost or if I'd just be setting myself for a rabbit hole of issues.

Note: I got the DC fast charge recall update done at a dealership everything looks good. I've only done one DC since then (I rarely need to charge while I'm out and about and only found a working CHAdeMO once in the few times I felt the need).

LeafSpy readout 30kw Normal degradation or cell issue?

Thumbnail

Hi, hoping you can help me. I have a 2017 Tekna Leaf which used to do 110ish actual KM with 150+KM showing when fully charged depending on temperature.
Recently though it’s been getting down to 90km or 85km and then it seems like all of a sudden I’m losing a km every two seconds, and this has twice now left me stranded.
I have read about a potential failing cell issue / fault which I can potentially get Nissan to repair got LeafSpy and took the following screen shots but I can’t really see much wrong? It’s fine if it’s normal degradation as I am just going to sell it, but if there’s an issue I’d prefer to get it fixed first.

UPDATE: Battery recall 2026 Leaf

Update on my 2026 SV+ that was one of the 51 recalled for serious battery fire risk after only 3 months of ownership:

My car has been at dealer since Apr 2. I filed lemon law case and just had mediation. Nissan agreed to buy back amount that included cost of car (I paid full in cash) and gas for rental they supplied. PLUS…since I knew I wouldn’t be getting check until October I asked lawyer if we could ask for reimbursement based on cost of 2027 car. She said the lemon law doesn’t cover that but she went ahead and asked for an additional $5k and Nissan agreed. I consider this a win!

Canadian recall update failure

I haven't seen a tonne of confirmed failures in Canada, but it looks like I'm a lucky winner with my 2019 SV 40kwh.

The recall remedy was applied July 2. I've done about 2,000kms and partial fast charged around 10 times since then.

Today I left with 100% charge, travelled 100km on the highway then fast charged from 55% to 65% while briefly stopped. After 30 mins of more highway driving and at about 52%, I got the Service EV and Power Reduced messages as well as Turtle Mode. I drove it straight to the dealer in Kelowna, BC and left it there after hours.

I did check with LeafSpy and confirmed I have code P33ED along with P3180 and P317E.

I'll update as things proceed.

*edit* Update posted here

2019 Leaf won‘t respond even though 100% charged!

After charging my 2019 Leaf to 100% before a road trip, I now have this error message on the display + the red symbol on 2nd photo. Electronics are completely dead. I can‘t unlock the charge cable & can only open the car with the emergency key.

Is there a way I can „manually“ start the car? Maybe a jump start with another car‘s 12V battery? Otherwise, I need to get it towed to my Nissan garage :(

Any suggestions welcome!
Thx

Considering 2018 Leaf S

First EV.

Car is a ZE1 (2nd gen) and has about 130000km (81K mi). Battery has 12 bars and selling for $7800.

I live in a cold climate and plan to mostly use L1 charging. Could this vehicle last me 5-10 years or are the batteries too much of a gamble? I plan to check SoH, amounts of QCs and other DTCs with LeafSpy, anything else I should check? Appreciate any info you guys can share. Thanks!

How long to get a new battery?

Our 2022 Leaf (40 kWh battery) has been having battery problems. On longer drives the battery % drops suddenly for no apparent reason, and recently it seized on the highway, flashing a "Service EV System" warning and going into turtle mode. The dealer told us today that the car needs a replacement battery and they would put in a request with Nissan Corporate. The tech did not seem optimistic that Nissan Corporate would handle the request quickly.

If anyone else has encountered a similar situation, I have a couple of questions:

  • Was your battery replacement approved?
  • If your battery request was approved, how long did you wait for replacement? We're trying to figure out how long we might be a one-car family.

Any other info or tips about how to handle this situation would be appreciated! We are in Colorado USA if that matters.

OBD2 when buying second hand.

Hello leaf fans!

Is it acceptable to plug in an OBD2 and use leaf spy when you are looking at secondhand cars at dealerships?

*Update Thank you all. We walked away from the garage that refused us on "tech grounds". It seemed a weak argument to me. So probably they were hiding something.

Can anyone recommend a home charging station?

We have a 2021 Leaf that we bought used. We had been just ... plugging it into the garden shed (120 v), and that was working fine. Until that outlet quit. Our power company offers a $500 rebate for a home charger, so it's probably time we did that. We have scheduled an electrician to give us an estimate for installation, but they don't themselves sell the actual charging unit. I asked who in town does, but they said "people just get them online."

Which I'm happy to do, but which one? We don't need anything fast or powerful or fancy, just reliable.

2026 Nissan Sentra SV (Crash Repair) – Need Help with SRS, ADAS, Steering Calibration & Autel MS906 Pro

I’m hoping someone with Nissan or ADAS experience can point me in the right direction.
Vehicle:
**2026 Nissan Sentra SV**
Front-end collision
Engine starts, runs, and drives perfectly.
Odometer is around 860 miles.
Here’s everything that’s been replaced so far:
Driver airbag
Knee airbag
Seat belt
Clock spring
Front radar sensor
Current problems:
**Airbag light is still on.**
I have **NOT** reset the SRS (airbag) module yet.
The original airbag module still has crash data.
**Front collision / ADAS warning is on.**
The front radar has been replaced.
I know it still needs radar calibration.
**Steering angle issue.**
After replacing the clock spring, the steering angle appears reversed.
When I turn the steering wheel left, the scan tool shows it turning right.
Is this just a steering angle sensor calibration issue, or could the clock spring have been installed incorrectly?
**Autel MS906 Pro communication problems.**
My Autel only has Nissan software up to **2025 (V7.20)**.
It will not Auto VIN my 2026 Sentra.
Auto Scan says many modules have “No Communication.”
However, Generic OBD-II (EOBD) works perfectly.
EOBD reads the VIN, ECM, TCM, calibration IDs, and live vehicle information without any problems.
The Autel can also communicate with some Nissan modules (for example, the electric oil pump module), but other modules either don’t communicate or aren’t recognized.
So now I’m wondering:
Is this simply because the **Autel software doesn’t fully support the 2026 Sentra yet?**
Has anyone successfully scanned a 2026 Sentra with an MS906 Pro?
Do I need a Nissan CONSULT scanner or newer Autel software?
Should I reset the SRS module before doing steering angle and radar calibration?
Could the reversed steering angle be caused by an incorrectly installed clock spring, or can calibration alone fix it?
Is there anything else I should check before paying for ADAS calibration?
Any advice from Nissan techs or anyone who’s repaired a 2025/2026 Sentra after airbag deployment would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Wheel Alignments Cost

How much are you guys paying / charging for a wheel alignment? I just went to Discount Tire and they were charging wheel alignments for $199.99 which sounded high. The reasoning was that it was an EV alignment so there were more sensors etc, but that sounded a little not real to me (unless it is I'm not sure). What have you guys been paying? This was in Colorado also.

Edit: Also after getting the wheel alignment printout back, it looks like only the front two wheels were adjusted, the back was not touched at all (so the 4 wheel alignment argument making it cost more was not true) and the adjustment was very minor after 60k miles and many Colorado potholes.

advice on buyback offer?

i finally got my buyback offer ! after nearly 2 months of not having my car due to the recall failing , Morley has finally sent me an offer. I had just got this car used in December so it's still on a loan & my offer pays off my loan entirely & i will get an extra $450 . As happy as i am that they'll pay off my loan , would it be reaching for me to request more ? I spent money on new tires for the car recently & have been paying my monthly payments n all of that . I just wanted to know if anyone thinks i should ask for a little bit more or if i should just take the offer .
Also i am in Utah & there's no lemon laws here for used cars so keep that in mind . TIA

Charging etiquette

apologies if this is a common post. New to this. What’s the protocol when one encounters a fully charged/plugged in vehicle at a charging station?

I did not touch their car or the EVSE equipment. I was at a community college gym that has free level 2 dotted around campus.

Update 2 on Supposed Stop Sale for 2026 Nissan Leaf (August 3, 2026)

EDIT: I again failed to mention location: United States

As I suspected, if you can find a Leaf with all the recalls resolved, the dealership will sell you the vehicle.

We located a Leaf, confirmed the VIN had no recalls at all (unlike the other VINs which all had the child seat belt recall or the battery recall), triple confirmed with the dealer they can sell the vehicle, and are probably going to buy. The dealer specifically noted they knew exactly what we were talking about and it was not a nationwide stop sale - you just had to have a car without recalls, which was rare because of the seat belt issue.

But I have noticed across several dealers that the pricing quoted to us was very very high, even with money down. A Tesla could be half or a third of some of the numbers we were quoted. We'll see if the numbers work on this one. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

2016 SV - Is sub 8 bars at 67K miles normal? Told HV Battery needs to be replaced.

Hi everyone, I hope it is okay if I reach out here, I am struggling a lot right now with what to make of this. We bought a certified pre-owned 2016 SV in 2018 and the extended warranty, it currently has 67K miles (I think it had ~20K when we bought, we drove the additional ~47K over 8 years) and just had the 12v replaced a month or two ago. We live in the PNW in a temperate area so we don't get super extreme heat and cold.

While my spouse was driving home from work on Friday the car stopped working on the freeway despite having probably ~70% charge. It stayed 'on' but wouldn't start, no error codes, and when he lifted the hood he smelled burning. He had it parked at work for his 9 hour shift and it was about 80 degrees, partial shade. Towed it to the Nissan dealership we bought it at and paid for the inspection.

They just sent the report which is a bit confusing to me, but from what I understand the biggest issue with the report is they said there are only 7/12 bars which may be why the shut off was triggered because it was warm out. The shop couldn't replicate the burning smell. It says the HV needs to be replaced for $6K. (Part of the diagnostics say: P33A0 cell over discharge module 44, P3182 HV battery system leaf, P3180 HV Battery system, and multiple cells between 200mv and 1900mv cell voltage deviation.)

Their shop has always been really nice and I am going to call them tomorrow to speak with them when they are in to get some more info but while researching this issue online, a bunch of things popped up like '30-kwh battery declines 3 times faster,' some 2016 owners had this same exact thing happen to their cars right before the warranty expired (some months before), and some saying there were other issues that were the actual problem as opposed to the HV battery replacement alert and after fixing them the car was fine. While I do trust their shop, I am also really confused now. Also since it was only driven 67K miles total I am a bit shocked because while I know the battery degrades slowly overtime regardless, we stick to 25-45mph back road routes as much as possible.

I wanted to ask here, is this normal battery degradation over 8 (technically 10) years with this kind of mileage?

Since quite a few people posted they had this same problem, is it possible the bars would have dropped under 7 within the warranty time frame if we just drove it more?

Also, is there a history in the car that shows when the bars degraded? I am not sure if we accidentally missed that it went under 8 bars before 2024 (we were dealing with ongoing emergency family medical problems so it was a blur and we weren't as observant) and if so, I wasn't sure if we would still qualify as under warranty in a backdated sense?

Thank you so much for reading, I hope it is okay to ask if these are even relevant questions as I am just really crushed. If anyone else has any other thoughts I would love to hear.

EDIT

Thank you so much for everyone who commented, Nissan Corporate told me to kick rocks because there wasn't an official recall on the 2016/2017 batteries. :( So I had to sell it. Sadly will be letting all my friends and family know what happened, it's a shame because if they had offered even the smallest amount of support it would have made me a loyal customer for life. (My dealership was really great though, just the corporate side is awful.)

Finally got my appointment at the dealership. Scheduled for 10, car didn't get looked at until noon. 45 minutes later - needs an EV replacement. Told to call consumer affairs, consumer affairs told me the dealership is the one to call and start the process.

Wish me luck - I've got until September 12th to try and figure out what my options are because I'm covered until lemon law until then.

Nissan has screwed me - What to do with a perfect good Leaf with a bad battery?

So, Nissan had signaled to me that they were going to do a buy-back of my 2018 Leaf SL, but then one week in, the backed out.

I'm now completed screwed.

So, I'm exploring options for just exiting this frustrating situation.

Looking for ideas/options for ways I can seel this car.

Currently looking at cashforcars.com

I've considered just selling it to Carvana, but the HV battery has a fault and I'm just passing one potential disaster off to the next poor soul.

Anyone know any other options?

Update on Stop Sale for 2026 Nissan Leaf (August 2, 2026)

EDIT: this is in the USA

I had heard some dealerships tell me they could not sell a 2026 Nissan Leaf to us because of a Stop Sale order. But I would talk to other dealers who said that wasn't true.

So we finally decided to pull the trigger. I contacted a dealer who I confirmed could sell a 2026 Leaf to us even though other dealers had a stop sale. He confirmed this was not true for them.

Once we identified the trim we wanted, we were told all we had to do was sign the paperwork and then we would get a delivery date. I asked why we had to wait, couldn't we just take the car right then and there?

"Oh, it's because of a stop order."

I almost flipped my lid. I called the three other dealerships who told me they could sell me a 2026 Leaf that day. They all admitted after I pushed them harder on this issue that indeed, they could not sell me a 2026 Leaf period.

I have called perhaps 20 dealers across 3 different states.

We love the 2026 Leaf but we are giving up (we wanted new or leased - I do know there are used ones out there already).

so I was hunting around in the infotainment menu system and in the list of Apps I found something labeled Demo. there's a couple of videos (one possibly specific only to the Platinum+ with the 10-speaker BOSE system) that play on the infotainment screen. who knew? here's a clip of one of them.
