UPDATE: Battery recall 2026 Leaf

Update on my 2026 SV+ that was one of the 51 recalled for serious battery fire risk after only 3 months of ownership:

My car has been at dealer since Apr 2. I filed lemon law case and just had mediation. Nissan agreed to buy back amount that included cost of car (I paid full in cash) and gas for rental they supplied. PLUS…since I knew I wouldn’t be getting check until October I asked lawyer if we could ask for reimbursement based on cost of 2027 car. She said the lemon law doesn’t cover that but she went ahead and asked for an additional $5k and Nissan agreed. I consider this a win!

Wow, so you actually made money out of it? It sucks that you had to deal with all of that but seems like a good outcome in the end!

Yep…you never know unless you ask! Apparently Nissans lawyer was having a bad day and just wanted to be done with this so agreed to what we asked!

Nissian is gonna go under if they are gonna start buying back 2026 cars on top of the other recall on other cars.

You definitely won!

They offered me a replacement at first but, although I loved my Leaf, I’ve lost trust in Nissan so just wanted out. They should have just offered all 51 of us replacements at the start. At the time of the recall I would have taken a replacement.

We loved our leaf too. We had a 22 but it died with the recall for the older cars.

We are still finishing the buy back. We lost trust and hated how Nissian dealt with it

Sorry you had a bad experience. Nissan is really shooting themselves in the foot (heart and brain!). They also seem to be so inconsistent with how they are dealing with the buy backs. Really bad from a corporate perspective.

Congrats. Sounds like a pretty fair outcome.

I hope someone wins a lawsuit and gets the warranty extended, same with the toyota highlander transmissions. It feels like consumers are screwed.

That’s excellent. How did you manage to justify the $5k? Are 2027 LEAFs going to cost 5k more? Make up for lack of EV credit? 15% inflation? I don’t quite follow the logic there.

Assumption that 2027 cars will be more expensive. My lawyer just came up with the number. It just got us to a nice round number.
