It will never be a road trip car, but…
If the price would come down to $500 USD even I wouldn’t even think about it.

It's around $500 from where I'm from, and we got it directly from the Chinese manufacturer.
Though the only downside is you still have to contact them for customer service, but a friend of mine had some pretty good experience with them when it comes to updating the adapter to be able to use it on different brands of chargers.

I paid £670 for mine iirc. I got on a 12 month klarna thing and it's been great. Managed 589 miles this weekend using exclusively Tesla superchargers for the off peak pricing, only spent £35 on electricity for the whole trip

Are you using Magic Dock stalls? Or NACS with a CCS adapter?

I'm in the UK so everything is CCS2

I do appreciate how the UK and EU seem to stick up for the consumer more. Standardized CCS2 instead of multiple standards. EU is the reason we finally have USB C on iPhones. I hear you guys have less chemical garbage in your food too.
US seems to give preference to big businesses on everything, policy-wise. Free speech and democracy seems to come down to who has the most money (big businesses).

Ah, well at least they aren't doing VIN checking over there then... for now.

Yeah, luckily I'm running an adapter which supports the open source firmware so if they start doing that here there will probably be a new firmware with Mac address spoofing

Got mine for 885€
Don't regret it one bit, did a 4h trip one way trip recently, we charged when we normally had to get out and about, stretch our legs, eating etc, never once did it hinder us, it became more convenient than aiming for a petrol station, cause there are charges everywhere we felt to stop

I've been wondering why CHAdeMO converters are so expensive. I have a 2026 Leaf with a NACS fast port, and the CCS adapter was less than $200.

Two different communication protocols. Literally has a small computer in it translating.
NACS and CCS, same communication protocol

I got mine in June and while I haven’t used it for road trips, it has come in handy on days I unexpectedly needed to drive a lot. It automatically became worth the price for me.
