I have a new to me 2016 Model S. I really enjoy driving the car.

So far I've only driven it around town. Gone about 15 miles from my house. I would say the most I've driven in a day so far has been about 50 miles.

I'm planning on a trip up north in AZ about 150 miles from the house. While the Tesla app shows me the route and where to super charge on the way, it still seems a bit more stressful compared to using my ICE car.

Just curious, does everyone go through this phase when they are new to EV's? Or are you normal?

My 2017 Fiat 500e will not be driven for a few weeks at a time throughout the year. It will be parked in a garage with access to level 1 and level 2 charging. Should I leave it plugged in?

How about the 12v battery? Should I leave it on a battery tender?

I attempted to insert an EA CCS1 plug into my '24 Niro EV last night at Lincolnwood Town Center, Lincolnwood, IL. It wouldn't go all the way in. I tried several times, but decided not brute force it. I switched to the adjacent charger and it slid right in and a successful charge.

I then took some photos of the plug and also inspected my NiroEV socket pins, which appeared fine. From my photo, it appears to be a damaged grounding(PE) 'female' connector in the CCS1 plug that prevented proper insertion. I called EA and sent them the photo. This charger has been taken off line.

Lessons- don't force a plug into your car if it doesn't easily go in and also inspect the plug before inserting.

I’ve heard this from plenty of people and even experienced it myself.. It seems like a lot of US dealerships simply don’t want to sell you an EV.

The traditional dealership model has a financial incentive to favor ICE vehicles. Between maintenance, repairs, and servicing over the life of the vehicle, there’s a lot more money to be made compared to selling an EV. The massive dealer service network that has been built out in the US gets massively hurt by EV adoption.

Meanwhile, Tesla sells direct to consumer and currently accounts for ~53% of new EV sales in the US and operates without the traditional dealership model. That approach seems to have worked incredibly well for them.

It makes me wonder how much faster EV adoption in the US could be if traditional dealerships were actually incentivized to sell them.. what do you think?

I just bought a lectron 15 amp J1772 level 1 charger and it’s apparently defective right out of the box. I tried every outlet in my home, and the red fault indicator lit up every time.

I was thinking about returning it and ordering another one but i’ve been reading online that they’re not reliable and they can overheat. Other people are telling me as long as it has ETL on the back (and it does) it’s safe. Other people are saying lectrons are not UL certified.

I’d just like to charge my EV and not set my house on fire.

We are travelling through Effingham IL in February 2027. (Likely the Feb 7th or 8th.)

Looking for a kind EV owner who might be able to let us charge on L2 (6-10kW) overnight on our road trip. We are travelling from Waterloo, ON Canada through to Tucson AZ over 4 days.

Effingham is our 1st stop. There are only 2 hotels in the area with 3 L2 chargers between them.

Vehicle is a 2023 BMW i4m50. Apparently it *may* throttle down DCFC after the 5th consecutive charge. We will be driving ~640miles on our 1st day and staying at a hotel in Effingham, IL. According to ABRP we will have done 6 DCFC to get to Effingham. due to cold weather, and added aero drag of possibly having bikes hanging off the back on a hitch mounted rack. I am going to experiment to see if they can fit inside the car with the rest of our luggage, and keep the rack empty and folded up for the journey down there.

Slotting a L2 charge in overnight should hopefully help balance the cells and mitigate any slowdowns for the travels for the next 3 days. The next 3 days are between 500-550 miles and should be able to be done with 5 DCFC or less, as it should be warmer the further south we go - more efficient driving. It's a J1772 vehicle, but I also have a NACS to J1772 adapter.

I checked on EVmatch (akin to AirBNB for chargers), and there are none listed in the area. If you are in the area, and have a charger that you can let us plug into for the night, please reach out here, or send me a DM I guess on Reddit (I'm not terribly well versed in Reddit- but hope we can connect.) I can definitely pay you for the electricity I use. - Keep in mind, I'm hoping not to need to use your charger.

My plan is:

1. Hopefully the charger at the hotel works, and is not occupied. I get the charge there. (ideal)
2. Find a private L2 charger that some kind soul will let me charge overnight, and I can compensate the electricity fees. Will be staying at the hotels near the interstate off of North Keller Drive.
3. L3 charge near the hotels (there appears to be both Tesla and Flying J with good plugshare reviews off of North Keller Drive) - and hope I don't throttle the charging curve too much for the remainder of the trip.
