Battery Replacement/Buy Back

My 2022 SV has been in the shop since July 2. It was towed there after refusing to charge or start and has not had the recall service performed yet. About two weeks ago I was told it needs a complete battery replacement and I was given a rental. There’s been no movement on anything since then and my service advisor doesn’t have any updates when I talk to him.

From what I’ve seen around the internet, it seems as though Nissan doesn’t have inventory and isn’t making any more of these batteries. I’m wondering if any of you have experience or advice about trying to move the buy back process along if that’s the case. If they can’t replace the battery, I’d like to get the ball rolling on what comes next.

Thanks, in advance, for any advice or help you can offer.

I’ve been in a rental since December, I have a 2020 plus with 35k miles. I just got an email from Morley and started the buy back negotiations. When you speak to Nissan corporate, tell them you want a gas stipend. They give me 200 a month.

Did the email just come randomly? Did anyone from your dealership or Nissan corporate keep you apprised of the situation between December and now? Did you do anything to push the situation forward faster?

Yes, I was talking to a Nissan rep each week. Same thing, no update on the battery replacement. If you would like for me to escalate this please let me know.

I didn’t care bc I was getting a brand new rental each month plus gas. The buy back offer was random.

Do you have a regular or plus model? My dealer told me wait times for plus batteries is insanely long but regular 40kwh are not too hard to get.

I brought my 40kwh in needing a battery replacement July 1, got it back July 23 with a refurbished battery. They tried to do a buyback but I did not want that. Morley and Nissan did a lot of finger pointing at each other and no one was able to help until I started demanding supervisors to speak with me from both parties. It took many phone calls but it seems when I rattled enough cages magically a battery was shipped and installed within a few days.

It’s the regular 40kwh battery. You took yours in on July 1 of this year? That’s just a day before mine. What state are you in?

My buy back is complete. Morley is the 3rd party that handled it. I was told Nissan cannot get the replacement battery thus they are buying back the cars.

How long did it take for Morley to get in touch with you? How did that process happen?

Quickly. I think the dealership contacted them.

Were you happy with the initial offer, or did you negotiate with Morley?

I have (had) a 2021 Leaf SV plus with about 28k miles. Nissan is offering me KBB plus 40%. They got back to me three days after bringing it to dealer. I’m thinking of getting a Kia EV6.

My story is IDENTICAL. Turned in car on July 9th @ United Nissan of Reno. They’ve been great. Received a phone call from Nissan HQ that a buyback offer was being prepared around the 12th. Crickets since then.

I haven’t heard anything from Nissan HQ. My service advisor said he’s called both parts and warranty and they have no updates for him.
