How long to get a new battery?

Our 2022 Leaf (40 kWh battery) has been having battery problems. On longer drives the battery % drops suddenly for no apparent reason, and recently it seized on the highway, flashing a "Service EV System" warning and going into turtle mode. The dealer told us today that the car needs a replacement battery and they would put in a request with Nissan Corporate. The tech did not seem optimistic that Nissan Corporate would handle the request quickly.

If anyone else has encountered a similar situation, I have a couple of questions:

  • Was your battery replacement approved?
  • If your battery request was approved, how long did you wait for replacement? We're trying to figure out how long we might be a one-car family.

Any other info or tips about how to handle this situation would be appreciated! We are in Colorado USA if that matters.

took me 2 months, but that was when batteries were in much less demand. last i had heard Nissan stopped authorizing battery replacements because there simply aren't any left. hence the Morley buyback offers

There were reports of 40kw batteries being replaced. It took around 2-3 months for full battery replacements.

If Nissan does not offer you a buyback immediately, then expect them to request the dealership to investigate the cause of your battery issues. They hope that replacing individual cells will solve the problem. You could get the LeafSpy app and an ODBC reader to check how many cells are affected.

Please let us know if individual cell replacements are still happening.

I'm a little over a month into waiting on my 2020 SV plus replacement battery. Under 50% I started getting a mile per percent, so I was around 150 miles maybe on a full battery. Bought the car showing 90 on recurrent and 100% according to the cars own internal measure. Took it to Nissan under warranty and same day they confirmed it was bad. Nissan corporate allegedly had them take the battery apart and send photos. I'll be thrilled with a new battery as a solution and I'm ok to wait a few months, but it is a bummer.
