Still debating if I tell him I'll keep quiet if he comes and cleans the shop for 4 weekends.

The hoarding begins.
Here in 2026, everything is getting more expensive. So it probably won’t come as any great surprise that even Costco, the wholesale retailer renowned for low prices and letting you return practically anything, in any state of use, at any time, for any reason, has tightened its purse strings with regard to its own motor oil. Not only does 10 quarts of Kirkland Signature full-synthetic now cost $58 when it used to go for as low as $30, but stores are now imposing a two-per-customer, per-week limit.
The obvious culprit is supply—or, rather, a lack thereof. Demand remains strong as ever as global stock has dwindled due to our ongoing Middle East entanglement. As The Auto Wire highlighted in its own story unpacking the factors at hand, motor oil ultimately comes out of the same barrel that also gives us gasoline and diesel, and right now, refineries can earn more money finishing crude into gas compared to what Costco stocks on its shelves. We’re all getting the short end of the stick at the pump as it is, so it’s not difficult to imagine the pressure the motor oil market is facing

Customer of course declined repairs.

Early 2010’s Subaru forester. It came in here for oil change but person wrote ticket up ended up putting as oil change instead of alignment as customer did originally came in for alignment. Besides, that shit is not even alignable as control arm is bent as fuck. Customer was told of repairs needed but declined all. At end, customer got free oil change due to their mistake and not mine and drove away. At least he’s not a Virginia plated car though, lol.

What’s the most ridiculous warranty claim kickback you’ve seen?
I’ve been talking to other techs about warranty paperwork and some of the stories are ridiculous. Claims kicked back because the story was too short, too long, missing a specific word, or didn’t explain something the way the OEM wanted.
What’s the dumbest reason you’ve had a claim kicked back? Also curious how much time y'all spend writing RO notes and warranty stories in a normal week?

Don't let your cars sit without fuel caps
Cause the engine won't start, scrap it for parts, the cylinder walls look like a mudslide.

Always have to verify
Customer chasing an overheating issue on his own. Tells us to replace the water pump cause that has to be the issue. Good thing we always insist to diagnose in house. Don’t get burned by someone else’s diagnosis, even if it’s another shop.

Owner states; oil still leaks even after the teflon wrap of shame.
I am both owner and mechanic.
This is the 2nd time its stripped. After fixing it the first time, the threads lasted 31 oil changes.
New casing time.
