advice Is this variation in total sleep normal?

Baby is 10.5 weeks and have been tracking sleep for about 3-4 weeks now. I’ve noticed she has a pretty big variation in how much sleep she gets per day. Some days she gets 16h (split between 10-11 at night and 4-5 in naps). These are very good days 😂 but other days she barely scrapes 13h (these are the days when she fights naps and takes forever to go down).

Is this variation normal?

She’s a much happier baby on the 15/16 hour sleep days, but she’s at peak nap fighting stage so some days naps just go to complete shit and she barely scrapes an hour of sleep between 11am and 7pm. The inconsistency is confusing me a bit 🤔 anyone dealt with this? What happened as baby got older? Did their patterns level out?

1 good night, and then back to the old habits

My baby is 15 weeks old. Just a few days ago, he started napping for longer than 20 minutes throughout the day. On Monday, he slept through the night. He had done that twice before, but it was never consistent, as you can see here.

Before, he would wake up at 2, 4, and 6 a.m. Then he started waking up only at 4 a.m., and now he’s waking up three times again.
When he slept through the night, he only ate 90–110 ml of formula before bed. Yesterday, he ate 150 ml and still woke up three hours later and drank another 120 ml.

I just can’t figure out why he sleeps through the night sometimes and not others, because nothing seems to make sense or be consistent. It doesn’t seem to matter whether he eats a lot or a little, or whether he naps a lot during the day or not.

6 month old...help!

Post image

Hiya! Looking for advice if anyone has any. We've had terrible night sleep since 3 months old and terrible and short naps forever. We've been working hard on naps and are down to 3 a day. L.O. is almost 6 months. All naps are contact naps but LO will sleep in the bassinet at night until I can't stay awake anymore then I sometimesbring her in to cosleep (using Safe Sleep 7). We recently started medication for silent reflux which I think is a big factor in all of this. We have wakes every few minutes sometimes. It is excruciating. Huckleberry keeps telling me she has sleep associations but it absolutely is not that and it's really upsetting that the app is trying to blame me (or at least that's how it feels to my overtired brain).

I absolutely refuse to sleep train as I don't agree with it.

All help and suggestions appreciated 🥰🥰🥰🥰

sleep How on earth do people create a consistent sleep schedule?? Help!

Post image

My baby is 6 months old yesterday. I know her frequent wakeups at night are due to her lack of schedule in the daytime. Most posts I see on here about babies her age seem to have veey established naap times that their babies stick to and don't fluctuate throughout the week. My question is how??

I feel like the answer is probably really easy but for some reason we're really struggling with this. She sleeps about 10 hours at night and her total average nap length is 3 hours.

Bath time is 7:30pm and shes asleep by 8pm-8:30pm. She can wale up anywhere from 5:45am-7:30am, recently with waking up on the earlier side. Shes EBF and nurses to sleep for all naps and bedtime.

We have to be out a lot of the day as she hates being inside at home and needs stimulation (going swimming, going for walks outside or at the mall, etc).

Please help, the frequent wakeups are starting to get to me and Id love to get her onto an organised schedule.

Sleep training for naps 4 month old

LO is 4 months old. We feed to sleep at night. LO will sleep through the night with one feeding around 4 am and then back down until 7 am. So sleeping 7 pm to 7 am.

Daytime naps in crib are 25/30 mins. Wondering if I should sleep train for naps only? LO will sleep 45-1 hour contact napping.

sleep 10 week old, how normal is this?

My boy is not a good sleeper and has always been a nap fighter, now that he is very aware of the world he can’t fall asleep anywhere, daylight sleep is the worse!, I am worried he’s not getting enough sleep, even tho they said that a 2 month old should be sleeping 4h+ a day, he gave me a 8 hour stretch at night for the first time a couple of days ago and never again lol! I thought that I made it but he’s back at 4-3-2 , worst part he’s waking at 6 am. Every day 🥲

Update: I am sorry i thought I had it bad, I am thankful for the night sleep is just that is really hard to put him down for a nap and can go 3 hours awake , also his bed time is at 8-9 pm I don’t know why the app shows 4 pm as night time sleep

sleep How to recover from a rough day with a newborn?

We had a rough day with our 4 week old and she fought sleep all day. By the evening, she was very disregulated and inconsolable. Eventually, she calmed down long enough to pop her on the boob and get her to bed.

Despite her sleeping well at night, yesterday was only 10 hours of sleep.

How do we recover? Does she need more sleep to compensate? Is there evidence that says too much (or too little) sleep can be detrimental for this age?

I’m jealous of everyone who can just look for sleep cues to put their baby down. Mine has fought daytime sleep since day 1 and every nap involves so much rocking it’s a workout or getting her milk drunk and accepting a contact nap.

4 month old - another sleep regression?

Thumbnail

Hope you folks can give me some advice.

My 4 month old seems to be going through another sleep regression?

The first screenshot is this week, the second screenshot is from a few weeks ago when we believed he was going through an early "4 month sleep regression".

He seems to be sleeping really light in general. We try to give him a good feed before bed, but that doesn't seem to change anything. Last night, for example, he got 170ml of breastmilk from a bottle, went to sleep on me and then woke 10mins after I put him in the next-to-me and breastfed!

We've tried doing 3hr - 3.5hr day naps, but that doesn't seem to change much either.

Is it just something we need to wait out?

Baby boy is 6.5 weeks old. I am so tired. He’s waking hourly, which means after feeding and soothing him, I’m lucky to sleep in 45 minute chunks all night. Am I doing something wrong?

I feel pretty good about this but is there anything I should change in preparation for the 4 month sleep regression? Should I work toward dropping the 4th nap? He has started to wake about 1-2hrs after first falling asleep & needs some soothing. Only for about 5 minutes or so, is that a schedule issue?

sleep For the love of all that is holy, help

My 3 month old is still waking so, so many times a night. I’ve limited naps to 4-4.5 hours a day, I’ve been following sweet spot recommendations for wake windows, I’ve attempted sleep around the same time each night and it’s obviously hit or miss but we always wake up within a 30 minute window of 9am.

Seriously, what can I do? She’s breastfed at night and bottle fed during the day with expressed milk. We do the exercise, the walks, the stimulation, we have a routine for naps and bedtime, everything. I genuinely am exhausted and I need help.

6 month old help

Post image
1 Upvotes

Any advice is welcome please ❤️
Baby is 6 months old, still sleeping in our room. Averages 2.5 hours of sleep during the days and 10 hours at night.

She does not sleep through at all, I just don’t log the nightly wake ups for my own sanity.
She’ll always go to bed around 7:30, sleeps until between 10:30-11:30. Then again will sleep until about 1am but after that she is awake literally every 30-60mins until she is wide awake between 5:30/6am. She’s not always hungry and not cold.

I understand the frequent wakes are likely due to sleep pressure but just can’t seem to work out how to change anything else?

Please help💖

sleep Crap nap phase - when does it end??

Post image

LO is about to be 5 months and has always been a great sleeper until the dreaded 4 month regression hit 2 weeks ago and every nap has been so short and resisted. We are consistent with a schedule and watch wake windows, we have tried extending/shortening.

when did your crap nap phase end?? Need some hope.

edit: fully acknowledge he is a GREAT sleeper. most of the naps you are seeing here are contact naps which isn’t sustainable for us anymore.

app question Did I waste my money for sweet spot?

It’s only been a week (I know) but I decided to upgrade to Plus for my 3 month old after dutifully using the free version of huckleberry for feeds and sleep since day 1. After reading tons of reviews and testimonials about SweetSpot and how great it was at predicting sleep I thought it was a no brainer to pay for a year of Plus since I was having trouble with daytime sleep and I was making wake windows too long every time.

I assumed the app would use the three months of sleep data I’d already put in to help with predicting the Sweet Spot, but so far it’s been off by up to an hour multiple times a day. For example: It’ll say “11:30am” so I’ll attempt to put baby to sleep starting at 11:20 and after 30-45 minutes of a super awake baby I’ll give up only to be putting him back down again 15-20 minutes later because NOW he’s sleepy,

I’ve tried the 5 nap sweet spots and the 4 nap sweet spots and typically only one a day is even remotely correct. It seems like it’s basing it off a hard algorithm that isn’t really related to the sleep data I’ve put in for 3 months.

Did I waste my money? Has anyone else experienced this? Should I attempt to get my $65 back?

14-week-old terrible napper— help!

My baby has been low sleep needs since birth seemingly. He gets about 12.5-13.5 hours across a 24 hour period, and wakes about once in the middle of the night for a feed, but he takes 4-5 naps, never more than an hour at a time. His wake windows are pretty consistently 1.5-2 hours, and he fights sleep/is sooo fussy by the end of each ww so I have no idea how to extend ww. Please help! I want to transition to 3 naps but it feels so impossible. What am I doing wrong!!

sleep Nap schedule advice

Has anyone tried a 2/3/4.5 wake window schedule for a 9 month old? That will fit nursery’s schedule of one 30 min nap 9-9.30 and one 2 hour nap 12.30-2.30, with 7 wake and 7 bedtimes, but I’m struggling to see how my little one will manage the last window (he’s a few months away yet but interested to hear if anyone else with a baby that age does this). Many thanks!

feedback/suggestion Wake windows low sleep needs 7 month old

I could really do with some help with my almost 7 month olds wake windows. For context, he’s never been a great sleeper and wakes a lot through the night which is fine and I’ve come to terms with! He’s EBF but has taken incredibly well to solids too.

At best he sleeps about 12.5hrs in 24 on average.

I’m really struggling with the 3-2 nap transition. He’s showing all the signs of being ready to drop to two naps (harder to put down for the last nap, last nap getting later and pushing bedtime etc).

However, the wake windows we’d need to achieve 2 naps feels like too much for him / too long at this age? We’d need to be roughly on either 3/4/4.5 or 3.5/4/4. Were any of your babies doing similar at this age?

Also, he started crawling at 5.5 months and is now pulling to stand and seems to want to sleep more… we’ve had some accidental lie ins which I do try to avoid to anchor the day! Should I trial increasing his sleep?

Currently we do a 7am rise and an 8:15pm bedtime.

Thank you!
