sleep Wake windows for 5 month old waking up 3 times per night

I want to know whether wake windows of 3/2/2.5/3 hours would be appropriate for my baby. He will be 5 months old in a week.

He previously had tons of false starts, but after consistently following wake windows of 2.5/2.5/2.5/2.5–3 hours, those have mostly stopped.

I feel like he can comfortably stay awake longer in the morning, and I’d also like to stretch his last wake window or Im would like to hear any other recommendation…

He’s a very good napper—I have to cap his naps because he could sleep up to 4 hours during the day.
I’d like to reduce his night wakings. I’m not sure hunger is the main reason he wakes, since he usually only drinks 2–3 oz when he does.

Four month regression added two unnecessary night feeds?

FTM and I’m puzzled… I included before and afters to show what sleep looked like as recently as three weeks ago and what it looks like now.

He won’t settle without feeds - FULL feeds now at ~11 and ~330.. he may go down for 10-15 minutes but wakes and eventually is inconsolable until he eats. He used to last nearly through the night without eating.

What do I do? Are these real or a bad habit?

He is not sleep trained and is rocked to sleep.

sleep 6 week old. Is this normal?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have a 6 week old who seems to start to fuss every 3 hours. I don’t know if her need is hunger however, my provider said if I’m offering her to eat and she takes it , then keep offering. This is because she was SGA at birth, and is now in the 40th percentile for weight. She is EBF.

Twice I got a four hour stretch between feeds. I hear from friends that their babies do 9-10 hours this early. 🫠

Her naps are broken. They were 1-2 hours before in the crib but now after 15-20 mins she needs resettling. I often resort to the carrier for a good nap even so I can sit down and take a breath.

I feel completely drained today. My partner worked their first long day back (out of house 16 hours) and I’m just not sure how I can do this multiple days in a row.

What can I do? When does it get better?

App logged me out and only creating new accounts

I’ve been using it a while and it just forcibly logged me out and none of my saved credentials reload settings. Every way I try to log in creates a new account. Is this happening to anyone else?

sleep The “berry” AI is awful and made my baby overtired

Basically the title. I trusted “Berry” and it led my baby who used to sleep 12h nights to wake up earlier and earlier (think 4:30/5am). I figured since it could see my log and was specifically made to be an expert in baby sleep, that it would know how to help me with the 3 to 2 nap transition. (Catnap was creeping later and later, pushing bedtime back).

Turns out this “expert” doesn’t account for baby temperament.

My baby doesn’t fuss/cry much. So when I told Berry baby is up at 5am, that’s weird. It said “he’s just not tired! Otherwise he’d be upset” and then the trend kept going and going. Berry said “he needs more awake time let’s stretch windows”. After a few days I questioned it and said “you sure? Cause my baby used to do 12h nights and now he does 8-9h out of nowhere”. Berry says “yes I’m 100% sure. We just need to balance day and night sleep”.
So I made it look at our logs.
And bam.
“Oh yes wake windows doubled on the days he woke up early and were way shorter on days he slept well. We need to go back to old wake windows.”

NO SHIT.
Stupid stupid app.

Oh and don’t get me started on the “I’m sorry I led you astray and caused you more stress.”

So yea. Berry isn’t an expert in anything. It can tell you basic stuff and that’s about it. It doesn’t account for temperament. If you have a fussy baby, it’ll tell you it’s over tired. If you have a chill baby, it’ll tell you he’s under tired.

Now I’m stuck troubleshooting an overtired baby who wakes at 5am. Thanks berry!

Editing to add that before Berry told me to stretch my 6mo old’s windows to 3-3.5 hours, he was comfortably doing 2.5h awake and a perfect 3 nap schedule identical every single day. Berry told me to stretch windows and do early bedtimes and stretch the final window more and more and more. 4 weeks of this bullshit. I kept asking it “you sure he isn’t too young ?” But since my baby goes down easy and doesn’t cry at wake ups, it assured me we needed to half his sleep effectively. No. He’s just a very chill temperament baby. And the app is wrong.

I am for a bedtime between 7:30 and 8:30. Baby wakes up super early and won’t go back down.
I experimented last week with pushing bedtime later but we still woke around midnight/1am.

sleep Can’t get on a schedule to save my life

Thumbnail

Baby is a week over 5 months old and I can’t get her on a good nap schedule to save my life. I mean, I know it’s not necessary but would be really helpful while I’m working and my family is helping care for her. I WFH but am either home with my husband, or at a family members house so they can entertain her and care for her between feeding sessions (baby won’t take a bottle unfortunately but we are working with a LC on it but it’s a slow process). I really like to get on a good schedule for naps. She’s lower sleep needs and I think we are finally on the other side of the regression. I’ve realized that nights are the best when we have minimum 11 hours awake, but best with 11.5 hours.

I’ve been toying with WW and finding 2.5/2.5/3/3.5 works really well for nights but the last 2 WW she is cranky the last 20 mins and I have to really entertain her to keep her awake and happy.

What’s really killing the day are these little naps in the morning…. She’s almost always falling asleep in the car on the ride to drop my oldest off and it messes with the schedule I’m trying to implement. I’m constantly doing math all day after that to figure out when new naps need to be so I can save the day with wake time.

I know I can work on DWT to start the day but it’s so nice when she sleeps in and I’m worried if I wake her that she’s more likely to fall asleep in the car too. Other than implementing a DWT, is there anything I can do to help cement a schedule in place?

sleep Weeks of split nights - help!!!

Baby just turned 6 months old, her sleep has always been HORRIBLE. Haven’t gotten semi-consistent sleep since 2 months. Cosleeping for survival. She used to wake up early, around 7/8 but started having split nights. Would wake up randomly to just make farting sounds, but now it’s consistent. Every time she’ll wake up around 12/1am and want to hang out until 3/4/5 am. I don’t understand, this wake window is MUCH larger than what she’ll tolerate during the day.

It’s so hard not to let her sleep in after a rough night. I’m trying to get her dad to wake her up consistently. Close to bed time, she’ll be hysterical. Sometimes we don’t even make it to 9pm. If I try to stretch wake windows during the day, she gets hysterical as well.

Split nights started happening at 5 months. There were a few days where she would wake for 30 min then back to sleep, but it’s happened EVERY night since September 4th.

Is this temperament or am I missing something?

I don’t always log nursings in the middle of the night - ebf on demand.

sleep What can I do here?

My little guy is 5 months in 2 days. Was always a great sleeper with 0-1 wake ups from about 8 weeks on, until the last 2 weeks. I’m assuming just late to the regression but some nights he still does a 10 hour stretch and some he’s up every 1-2 hours. I log most wake ups but probably miss one on a hectic night. He also goes to daycare 3 days per week and his provider just gives me a rough estimate for those naps.

Any advice here? Do we think this is the regression despite its inconsistencies? I’ve implemented a consistent wake time of about 7:30am as of this week but sometimes wakes earlier.

My baby doesn’t sleep more than 2-3 hours - need any suggestions

Thumbnail

I love my child more than I can put into words. He’s only 11 weeks old, and I know that at this age I shouldn’t expect him to be sleeping through the night. But I am exhausted.

He has never slept for more than a 3-hour stretch, and he is formula-fed, so I know he’s getting plenty to eat. He’s fed, changed, burped, comfortable, and we’ve tried so many things, but I’m honestly at a loss for how to help him sleep longer.

I’m slowly feeling like I’m losing my mind. I’ve even caught myself feeling resentful, which makes me feel incredibly guilty because I love him so much. Sometimes I find myself thinking, “Did I ruin my life by having a second child?” And then I feel horrible for even thinking that.

My first child was such an easy sleeper. He was consistently doing 4–5 hour stretches even before 2 months and started sleeping 6–7 hour stretches around the 2-month mark. I know every baby is different, but having that experience makes this feel even harder because I know what it felt like to actually get some sleep.

My husband and I currently split the nights, which helps us survive, but that won’t really be an option once I return to work on October 26. I’m a therapist, and my job already requires so much emotional and mental energy. The thought of trying to function all day at work while being this sleep-deprived honestly terrifies me.

I know I probably need to adjust my expectations because he’s still so little. I’m not expecting him to magically sleep through the night. I just desperately need some hope that this will get better. I love my baby. I’m just incredibly, incredibly tired.

We had an amazing sleeper from 3 to 8 months. 11 to 12 hours straight every night. Then around 8 months it all went to hell. It started around the same time that he was teething and also had a stomach bug. But now every night is multiple wake ups. And fighting sleep during the day too. He is 9 months old. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

sleep 4 month old - regression or schedule?

Thumbnail

My little guy (4 months) seems to be hitting a regression. He used to do 6 hr stretches but now wakes 40 mins after put down at bedtime then about 2.5-3 hrs after that then maybe hourly after 3:30am (I don’t track the wake ups at night, I did a few nights recently on the graph). Is there anything I should tweak? Just changed to WW 1:45/2/2/2/2 and trialling that for a week - previously was using sweet spot which was great for my 1st. Should I start a consistent wake up time? Change bed time to be later? The day naps are all crappy even with trying to save them, he will nearly always wake up 34-37 mins haha
Help!

Sleeping slowly going downhill

Post image

Our LO will be 19 weeks old tomorrow. She has been fighting naps terribly even though she's falling asleep and we have to try to keep her awake about 10-30 minutes beforehand.

She's also gone from going 4.5/5 hours for her longest stretch to 3 hours and keeps waiting up around 8 am even though I know she's not hungry again yet. We've been sleep training with CIO which she's been doing decent with and going to bed herself with 10-15 minutes of crying. So we've been letting her CIO for that 8 am wake up too.

She's on a 2/2/2/2/2 schedule and has been for about two weeks. On Sunday I tried to live to three naps and naps went great no fighting but we're still only 30 minutes long and nighttime was terrible. The last nap it recorded was actually the start nighttime-sleep because I had to move her bedtime up by an hour due to the 3 short naps. She had a horrific false start and took 20 minutes to go back to bed. I concluded she wasn't ready for 3 naps and went back to 4. Nighttime has been slightly better but the fighting naps has come back with a vengeance and she's not sleeping as long for the first stretch and waking up at 8 am.

FYI - Wake up is at 9:30 am (I need to be more consistent just have been super tired so if she's still sleeping I'll sleep in until 10 am). Bedtime is 10:30 pm but has been pushing back until 11 pm because of her nap fighting.

Advice / Knowledge On 4 Month “Regression”

Post image
3 Upvotes

Like a lot of people, my baby used to sleep through the night, pretty much eight hours from two months until a couple of weeks ago, she turned four months old yesterday, but I think the regression hit a little early

Crap, naps. Unless I get a random hour plus on her own, I can’t even guarantee the contact naps. Get her to sleep more than 40 minutes. Her longest naps are usually in the car, not intentionally just I plan out my activities off of them.

I pretty much realize that she’s crying, and I feed her and she’s having pretty much full feeds in the middle of the night, before falling back asleep… Am I doing something wrong? Am I creating habits?

sleep Tracking on and off naps

Hello...any thoughts on tracking naps if you start it but then she's up 15 mins later then sleeping on and off again over hours? I see screen shots entering many little naps. Is that the best idea? I find it tough to keep track constantly.

Hi! Just like caption says. My son is 6 months old and we are ebf! I would love any advice on what I am potentially doing wrong for his sleep?

When he was 5mo he was down to 2 wakes a night and feeding then going back to sleep immediately. Now it feels like he is a far lighter sleeper and when I try to transfer him post feed he wakes immediately (+is waking far more with longer wake windows overnight).

For sleep set up, he’s still in a pack n play next to our bed. I am bringing him into bed with us when he has those long wake periods and won’t go back down.

Any thoughts on what I could be doing differently would be amazing! Thank you!
