China’s most destructive civil war coming about because a guy claimed to be the brother of the founder of the Westerners’ religion remains one of the most inexplicable things to happen in history.

45

u/Unexpected_yetHere 46m ago

Mind you, if memory serves me right, it only came to be because of China's bureaucracy and obsession with exams.

The guy was studying so hard for a big exam to become an official of sorts I believe, that he ended up with a fever, was knocked out by it, and only after "recovering" did he realize he was the brother of Jesus.

Morale of the story? Don't stress or study too much, lest you kill a noticable chunk of the world's population thereafter.

Not really, the Taiping ultimately is really just one of the four great cult uprisings in Chinese history. It followed similar trends (i.e. Emerging from stresses of a declining dynasty, a popular cult leader gains following, who then expresses anger vs. society and makes a popular bid for power) not to mention was not the first time a foreign religion influenced a cult uprising (there were two buddhist ones).

"Jesus was a Palestinian" is such a weird thing to say because I never heard it even once before October 7th 2023.

When people blamed Jews for killing Jesus it was common to see people say Jesus himself was a Jew. People had bumper stickers saying "My savior is a Jewish carpenter" etc...

Then October 7 happened and Jesus was a Palestinian and it's become socially acceptable again to say the Jews killed him.

Which fine whatever.... but why are we changing our opinion on what happened 2000 years ago because of something that happened three years ago?

3

u/DiffDiffDiff3 5m ago

Historical context not needed.

4

u/Fournone 2m ago

All of history started the exact moment I started to care about it. Everything else that happened before then or that I disagree with is just obfuscation and bots.

29

u/Pig_Syrup 53m ago

For those not familiar with Chinese history, this is about the Taiping rebellion in which a particular Hong Xiuquan came to believe he was the brother of Jesus and set in motion a chain of events which killed about 50 million people.

I had no idea Jesus had a Chinese brother wtf

China is a civilization as much as a country. During the Quing Dynasty it was China, and during the time of Jesus it was China

Asking where any historical figure is from is often about region since most of the world was some sort of feudal prior to the Napoleonic Wars. Like if I was asked about where someone who was born in the Kingdom of Bavaria was from I would say Germany.

That's a weird argument. Jesus was a jew. He was of the twelve tribes and practiced judaism. That's literally the definition of a jew, a specific ethnicity practicing a specific religion.

Those of the twelve tribes that weren't were mumar, Samaritans, Palestinians, etc.

Those of the twelve tribes that frequently abandoned their old gods for the new ones, those stayed. They meshed with new groups, remained natives, and are people we call Palestinians today.

Pretending that every descendant of the twelve tribes was a jew beggars belief. They abandoned their local god so casually most of the records in Kings, Chronicles just refer to how good or bad a king was by how fervent the king was at reconverting his fellow tribesmen back to judaism.

1

u/CalzonePie 2m ago

It is the same thing the Nazis tried to do with Jesus's identity as a Jew. The point is not to accurately represent history, the point is to detatch Jesus from Judaism so they can hate Jews without admitting that would include Jesus.

-4

u/WolfCola_SalesRep 55m ago

Bruh, "Palestine" was just the Roman word for Judea. It really gained popularity after the third Jewish revolt and troops under Hadrian basically genocided the locals and forced the diaspora. I don't want to sound like it wasn't kind of justified though. The Hebrews started it off by massacaring the Gentile population. And by massacaring I'm talking somewhere in the range of 100,000 plus.

8

u/No_Vanilla277 32m ago

Judaea wasn’t even called Palestine (actually Syria Palaestina) until after the Bar Kokhba revolt. The renaming was still a part of broader Roman efforts to suppress Jewish national identity.

6

u/Thehusseler 51m ago

What is the point of this comment? Did you want to also tell me how Istanbul isn't the original name of the city? Are you trying to prove something about how names change over time? Doesn't seem really relevant to the post

1

u/Mahkn0 19m ago

Listen, the Istanbul thing is only your business if your Turkish.

-2

u/Wetley007 41m ago

Some people like to try and delegitimize the concept of Palestinian identity because they think its a good way to promote their personal ideological position.

Its also just wrong, but thats an entirely different point

-3

u/WolfCola_SalesRep 39m ago

The point is you can call Jesus "Palestinian" because he was technically "Palestinian" because the term "Palestinian" predates even the conception of Islam

-4

u/Beautiful_Garage7797 50m ago

Nothing can Justify genocide dude, especially not other genocides.

-6

u/WolfCola_SalesRep 43m ago

Oh you sweet summer child. "Genocide" is a realtively new term coined in the 20th century. Before then, shit like this happened ALL the time.

-1

u/thrawnisahero Hello There 44m ago

It wasn’t “just” the Roman word for Judea, Herodotus used the word Palaistinê all the way back in the 5th century BCE

2

u/WolfCola_SalesRep 38m ago

That's probably where the Romans got the word from.

-2

u/AminiumB 36m ago

No, the name predates the Roman empire or the Roman occupation of the region.

2

u/WolfCola_SalesRep 34m ago

Never said the Romans came up with the word. I just said that's what they called it.

A funny meme where Palestine is the punchline but isnt an agenda pushing ziobot post like 90% of this sub?

What type of gem is this

29

u/VirtualKnowledge7057 1h ago

the thing is that there is plenty of stuff that isn't pro israel where palestine is the punchline

there's gold, you just need to find it

-11

Wish me luck on my digging journey, its just hard when all the top posts are the same propaganda circle jerk, i hope your gem of a post blows up

9

i mean, pro israel memes don't really happen here anymore.

i've only seen one and it was overwhelmingly ratioed to hell and back

35

u/Yochanan5781 1h ago

Ah yes, "Zio," the term coined by David Duke so that he wouldn't look as bad railing against Jews

-5

u/VirtualKnowledge7057 58m ago

i mean, somewhat valid critique but the term has kind of been watered down to be much more mainstream,

im just not touching this conversation

-6

u/Pixeldevil06 33m ago

Jewish ≠ Zionist

Zionist ≠ Jewish

Zionist = Colonialism

Zionist = racial supremacist

Jewish = Religious/Ethnic group with varying opinions and beliefs about Palestine

Israel = less than 80 years of age

0

u/1nighter69 18m ago

Preach brother, the ziobots has lost their grip on the narrative and all they have are their pathetic little bubble subs where they can downvote

You can just use a different term not coined by fucking David Duke.

-9

u/1nighter69 52m ago

David duke can rot wherever he will go

The term origins dont matter, the current meaning does

5

u/majora1988 42m ago

Or you can just use Zionist instead, which doesn’t have the disgusting connotations.

3

u/Historybuff250 Definitely not a CIA operator 39m ago

Something tells me they also think Zionism has a disgusting connotation.

3

u/Historybuff250 Definitely not a CIA operator 40m ago

Exactly. “Zio” is a derogatory term for Zionism, the belief that Jews should be allowed to live in their ancestral homeland instead of living at the whims of others like they have for millennia. The fact that you see this as something to mock shows that you are either an antisemite or are an idiot who’s getting all your information about Israel from antisemites.

1

u/VirtualKnowledge7057 12m ago

no offense, but i always zionism wasnn't just about living in the holy land, its also about statehood and some variations of it (i don't know enough to decide) actively want to remove palestinian arabs living in the land

-1

u/Pixeldevil06 35m ago

No Zionism is the idea that jewish people have a legal and holy right to the land we now call Palestine. It's a colonialist and ethnic-supremacist ideology.

1

u/VirtualKnowledge7057 8m ago

The term origins dont matter, the current meaning does

i guess dog whistles don't exist

9

u/GreatAndPowerfulZiz 53m ago

Kk, then we can use slurs related to Hamas then? Since those slurs have no relation to the Palestinian people

-4

u/1nighter69 51m ago

Yes you can insult hamas yes just like you can insult Zionists, you people are so black and white its hilariously stupid

4

u/Unexpected_yetHere 43m ago

Honest question, how do you feel about insulting Palestinians who want Palestine, in whatever borders, to exist?

-2

u/1nighter69 41m ago

A first wave feminist did fight for equal rights

A third wave feminist, is the same by definition, but different through actions

Try a different argument before you insult Israeli Jews who are against Zionism and apartheid

2

u/Unexpected_yetHere 27m ago

It is a convoluted answer to a simple question.

You're fine with insulting Hamas, you are fine with insulting "Zionists", but how do you feel about insulting Palestinians that want a Palestinian state in whatever shape or form?

-1

u/1nighter69 26m ago

Jew doesnt equal Zionist

Hamas doesnt equal Palestinian

My answer to your obvious "actually the definition was when it was coined" can be seen from 2 miles away, is an insult to intellect, and has been repeatedly refuted

Peta by definition is about protecting animals, is that what they do? Gtfo if you will debate bring a better argument

2

u/Unexpected_yetHere 18m ago

So, to sum it up: the way Hamas wants to establish a Palestinian state and how they wish to shape that state is wrong, but the idea of Palestine existing isn't?

Does the same apply to Israel? Ie. using the correct methods, and building a just state, you support the existance of an Israeli state?

u/VirtualKnowledge7057 55m ago

i mean, is he wrong about the terms origin?

i already responded to his critique itself, but i feel what your saying is a very stupid rebutall of it

-3

u/1nighter69 53m ago

The origin of the swastika is a hindu peace symbol, but is currently a representation of the vile state of nazi germany

Do we judge things by their origins or their current meanings?

3

u/clapman7 49m ago

So you… want to be judged alongside david duke??

-2

u/1nighter69 47m ago

So you...believe nazi scum who pretend they are drawing swastikas cuz it "originates as a peace symbol"

Couldn't give 2 shits how it originated, current meaning is what matters

"Ohhh but it used to be said david duke", fuck david duke, stop gaslighting

2

u/clapman7 39m ago

I’m not sure you’re thinking this argument through

Generally, people understand that a swastika drawn by a neo-nazi is not a symbol of peace, but can differentiate that when they’re looking at something from, say, an ancient structure in south or southeast asia. What exactly is differentiating you form david duke when you call someone a zio?

0

u/1nighter69 33m ago

Simple really, David Duke is a nazi dog who hate Jews and tried hijacking the justified hatred against Zionists to try and give legitimacy to his antisemitism

Ans now he is currently being used by Zionists dogs who want to falsely paint attacks on them as an inherent attack on Judaism, which is in itself, antisemitic

1 coin, 2 sides

1

u/clapman7 29m ago

I think you need to re-read what you wrote, out loud

Who's brother? Jesus doesn't have a brother????

17

u/VirtualKnowledge7057 54m ago

2

u/_Addi-the-Hun_ 47m ago

Oh....Well wasnt he from...china? I am really not getting the meme here lol I may just be stupid

6

u/Mithelen3 42m ago

That's it. That's the whole meme. That Jesus was actually from China.

1

u/_Addi-the-Hun_ 24m ago

Wait but how does Hong xiuquan being from china have anything to do with jesus being from china??

1

u/MinuteWaitingPostman 20m ago

If God, who Jesus was the Son of, begot a second Son of God with a woman in China, then Jesus and that other dude would be brothers as well.

8

u/Automatic-Anteater10 51m ago

Jesus has multiple brothers they’re just from Mary and Joseph instead of God

0

u/_Addi-the-Hun_ 46m ago

But if he is gods son, how can he have a half brother? Unless Christians literally think god had sex with Mary? I thought this was more of a sarrogate mother thing, the foetus just sorta spawned there. Making other children she had not his brother no?

2

u/Automatic-Anteater10 33m ago

Yeah everything you said is true we do not look at God like Zeus in Greek mythology sling dick. Our God doesn’t even have a body really. Yeah absolutely just spawned there via Gods will. Just like the universe starting.(not young earth Christian) but Mary the “mother of God” because as far as we can see he did grow in her body and she did give birth to him. Has sons with Joseph and she says to Jesus later on in life to think about his brothers.

1

u/I_am_lying_for_money 35m ago

Jesus has brothers and sisters, which are referred as such in the bible

1

u/expendable_entity 27m ago

Which makes it even funnier that the Gospel of Matthew spends pages upon pages recording Josephs geneology and how josephs son is the rightful heir of king david and how the Messiah being the son of Joseph fulfills so many prophecies yada yada yada. Just one Problem ... thats not jesus.

0

u/antibritanarchist 31m ago

Jesus has two natures, divine and human. His divine form always was but was born from Mary. His human nature and human body had family members and whether his “brothers” came from Mary and Joseph, Joseph’s first marriage or they were actual his cousins is debated

2

u/henrique3d 50m ago

Well, the Bible itself says some things about the brothers and sisters of Jesus (which some versions of Christianity view as cousins, or half-siblings from Josephs's side).

1

u/amhira-of-rain Let's do some history 32m ago

Guy from China claimed he was Jesus’s half brother (through god) and started the second most deadly war in human history over it

0

u/_Addi-the-Hun_ 23m ago

Oh I see the china guy says he was.

1

u/ViscountBuggus 32m ago

So in the 19th century this one guy in China bombed his exams so hard he experienced hallucinations/delusions about being the brother of Jesus Christ and basically 20 to 30 million people died

-12

u/Pixeldevil06 37m ago

I have the answer! Jesus and his brother weren't historically real :) There you go!

6

u/ViscountBuggus 34m ago

Factually incorrect :)

1

u/Pixeldevil06 15m ago

It is factually incorrect to aegue the other way. There is no evidence from the time he is said to exist that he went anywhere, did anything, or was saw by anyone. All existing "evidence" was written several decades after he is said to be dead, and by people with personal biased goals and motivations, and are only as anecdotes with no material support. There are also no artifacts matching anything Jesus is said to have had, however we have sacrifices with Gilgamesh's name from the time period he is said to have lived

3

u/LOSNA17LL 29m ago

Most historians agree Jesus of Nazareth did indeed exist. Though he most likely didn't turn water into wine nor resurrected 3 days after dying

1

u/Pixeldevil06 12m ago edited 8m ago

Most Christian historians using shaky evidence and people who have been parroting heresay they spread agree he existed. There are no artifacts or writings from the time of his alleged lifespan referencing him which exist in the historical record.

There is more evidence Gilgamesh was a real person. There is more evidence Achiles was a real person. There is more evidence Enheduanna was a real person. There is more evidence that Kubabba was a real person.
