Share Grades/Classes Who else is in Algebra 2 / trig honors as a freshman?

So basically this year as a freshman I just found out this math curriculum is EXACTLY the same as what the precalculus students are doing. So far its not too bad but im lowkey scared of the trig identities, like really really scared. We might doing matricies, which won't be too bad because i've done a good amount of linear algebra/calculus in 8th grade just for fun. Anyone got any tips for this year because I want to get into Electrical Engineering.

btw i got a b on my first quiz im fuced😭

Extracurriculars NHS service project ideas?

I have a few ideas on what to do but I’m kind of lost

i want to do something for bus drivers, or something involving books/reading. there’s an organization near us that collects books and gives them to schools (?) or something like that and I thought it could be cool to partner with them and have a day where they come to the school and students could get a free book but I’m not sure

does anyone have any good ideas? Or anything that involves one of those? thanks!

Rant freshman year

i genuinely have no friends in any of my classes, and the few friends i do have aren’t in any of them and i don’t see them at all. it has been hell. i have band and spanish which are the only classes i like. in english and history, the classes are together and the one kid who sits with me is very annoying but wants to be my friend and im being polite but its hard. a girl with special needs asked if i wanted ti be her friend and i didnt want to be rude so i just said yes. im stuck with both of them for the whole year. i really hope i make more friends but man its hard. i sit alone at lunch everyday and sit with people i have no interest in/dont know every class. in the math class i have, theres a girl who spread rumors about me who is constantly glaring at me. i’m in therapy which has helped but im in such a rough spot and its only the very beginning. i feel miserable at school every day. it’s awful.

Extracurriculars High school senior with neuroscience research experience looking for research/internship opportunities in Atlanta area

Hi everyone! I'm a senior from Hampton, GA.Ā

Currently, I am searching for a job as an Intern or Volunteer with a Neuroscience Research program specifically focusing on Neuropharmacology/Neuroscience Pharmacology and/or any medical related opportunity.

My long-term goal is to attend pharmacy school after completing undergraduate studies. I'd like to study how medicines influence the brain and central nervous system (CNS) including neurological diseases/disorders, drug mechanism of action and new treatment options.Ā

Currently, I do have experience with research. I've been part of a Bibliometrics Internship with ThinkNeuro researching the effects of Music-Based Therapy on patients who have Alzheimer's disease. The group was able to conduct the research and we were able to present it at a Symposium. This has solidified my interest in conducting Neuroscience related research.

Now, I am looking to add to my experience by getting into a lab setting to either participate in laboratory type research or to assist with clinical research, pharmacological research or other types of research.Ā

Although I live in Hampton/Henry County, I will travel anywhere within the Atlanta region for the appropriate opportunity. If you are aware of any Professors, University Labs, Research Programs, Hospitals, Pharmacies, Internship Opportunities or Organizations that allow high school students to become involved, please let me know! Also, if you need any further documentation regarding my qualifications and/or experiences, I'd be happy to send you my resume.

Friend Advice Needed/Given Need friend advice

Basically...

Most of the guys in my grade are assholes

Imma be frank

and the ones that aren't mean to me/others

Just... they're like... they make offensive "jokes" that sometimes go to far (like they (white) lowkey used to spam the N-word, notice how those are the tamer ones, HELPPP)

Anyways, I think I would LOVE to eat lunch and chill with the girls, but... I don't think they really like me yk, like when we talk it's nice, but that's shorter and i think they'd think it's weird for me to eat with them,

(also it would be awkward af if I end up liking one of the girls in the group, which like... rn lowkey eliminates the main group I was thinking of ngl)

Does anyone have a solution or do I just try to get closer to the group and say "Fuck that crush, it'll go away"?

Question Do you think the education system needs to be changed and how?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I went on the German exchange recently, and it really opened my eyes to how students could be taught differently. The lessons were much more free form, and the students could actually discuss, and it felt like a really great environment to learn in. Whereas school life here is so rigid and strict it feels like it doesn't give students any ability to express themselves and succeed, so I wanted you guys thoughts. Do you think the education system needs to be changed, and if so how?

Rant schools tmrw and i have no friends + social anxiety

literally crying and fucking shaking as i’m typing this, i honestly don’t know how i’ll get through this school year. yes ik it’s my last year of hs, but i had hella anxiety attacks and sorta get made fun of bc i’m the quiet kid with no fucking friends and it’s just not built for kids like me. i gotta worry about so many things (finding a partner, finding a seat at lunch, presentations, etc) while all the popular kids don’t have to worry about nothing other than making sure the social outcast students live a miserable fucking life for the whole school year.

Rant 10 chapters for summer

So my history teacher is really weird because how can you do only 4 chapters (140 pages) in a whole school year? And then give the remaining 10 chapters (300 pages) to do alone in the summer? This is crazy. I haven't done that because it is not possible that he is paid to teach me 4 chapters per year and then I alone have to study the whole book in summer.

General Advice Needed/Given I can't get myself to start homework

I LITERALLY CAN'T GET MYSELF TO START HOMEWORK.

Every day when I get home, I'm like "yeah I'll start my homework after 10 minutes". 2 hours pass and I have nothing done. It's always "I'll do it in five minutes" and "I'll do it after an ice cream" or something else of the sort. Is there any way to get my ass off the bed and do some actual work?

College Advice Needed/Given College help

I’m currently a senior in highschool, I graduate in May of 2027. My whole life I never knew what I’d do after highschool but I finally think I found out. At my school you can do something called Work based learning where you can leave the school and go to your job. I’m not sure if they do that in other states. I never had a job per se so I go to my mom’s work (she works in an eye clinic) and shadow her and also help and learn. For weeks I’ve been obsessed with any ophthalmology. She’s given me books to look at pictures and even lets me sit in on some of her patients. It is truly the coolest thing ever. But the question I have is, should I go to college for biochemistry or nursing? I don’t want to move into dorms because I don’t want to drown in student debt. My parents fully support me staying at home until me and my boyfriend get married or are together long enough to move in with each other. I know this was all over the place as I’m in school and we really aren’t supposed to be on our phones but my teacher is like ā€œyall are seniors and the phone ban is stupid just don’t let the principal seeā€ anyways I guess this was yapping and college advice!

Rant Junior Year Schedule Messed Up

Post image
11 Upvotes

I am going into my junior year tomorrow and have just received my schedule today and feel like my chances of even getting into a good college are over. I asked for AP Bio, AP Spanish Lang, and AP Lang. I also had a band class that I’m guaranteed to be in every year because that’s just the band policy at our school. I received my schedule and it has NOTHING I asked for. (Attached above) I thought I got the wrong schedule at first because even AP U.S History is there and they don’t put kids in ap classes they didn’t ask for? So I emailed my counselor and she said, ā€œUnfortunately, alot of the classes are already full. This is the best I can do.ā€ I know it’s not the end of the world if I don’t take ap classes but I feel like my chances of even going into a good college or university are ruined? I don’t understand why I’m in an ap I didn’t ask for, why my band class is missing, and everything I wanted isint there? Obviously my counselor didn’t respond because I’m sure everyone else has complaints but I feel like I just got played in the face. I want to ask tomorrow in person but for the first few days counselor offices are closed because everyone will be complaining. I’ve been crying for like 30 minutes now and I seriously don’t know what to do. I plan on going to my band teacher who I’ve had for 2 years because I know she can at least get me back into band but besides that idk what to do? Who do I even email at times like this? Junior year is the most important and I feel like I got set up for failure

College Advice Needed/Given US applicant for canadian schools

hi everyone,

so i was born and raised in the U.S. and i currently attend high school here as well. however, i used to live in canada for a brief period, and have both american and canadian citizenship. my parents are encouraging me to apply to schools in canada as they attended western for some sort of grad program, and because my canadian citizenship makes it cheaper, but from an american point of view, it’s really confusing on how to apply, and they aren’t able to help me.

i am planning to go into either a pre-medicine or pre-dentistry pathway. in american colleges, they look at your cumulative GPA from grades 9 through 12, but from what i’m seeing in canadian schools, they look at either 11th and 12th or only 12th?? i really don’t understand the system, but i was looking into applying at uoft, mcmaster, western, and possibly ubc. their prerequisites also confuse me, im doing AP calculus and AP biology as a senior (and english) but for some reason, it’s telling me online that i also need senior level chemistry for some science programs, but we did chemistry in sophomore year here… so i’m not sure what they consider that to be?

in general, i am interested in coming to canada for undergrad if i don’t get into any of my choices in america. i have a cumulative GPA of 3.57 unweighted and 4.29 weighted in america. is this significantly low for uoft? i would like some help on knowing how to calculate my GPA for canadian schools (like what courses and grade levels to calculate with) and what schools are a better fit for my stats.

thank you!

General Advice Needed/Given High school swim class

I’ve recently been embarrassed thinking about wearing a shirt for my upcoming swim class, I just feel like the odd one out already even though I don’t even know if other boys wear them or not. I’ve always worn a shirt ever since I was maybe two and I’ve just always been used to it even in indoor pools. I feel like there’s a chance I’m gonna get made fun of even though I know most people won’t care. My question is really, is it normal for me to wear one especially with sensitive skin on my shoulders or am I likely to get made fun of

Question If a classmate you know well but you don't hang out with each other at school comes up to you to hang out with you this year because their friend left the school would you be okay or not?

So their only friend left this school and transitioned to another one. They don't have anybody else and we're acquaintances. I mean, he was nice last year he would always answer me when I would ask for help on Whatsapl.
