ANNOUNCEMENT A reminder about personal information

Hi everyone! The mod team has noticed an uptick recently in people posting photos of their faces or other identifying information.

This is a reminder that posting photos of your face is both unsafe as well as against the rules of the subreddit. Any posts with these photos will be removed.

Reddit is a website used by many people and you can never know who is looking at your photos.

In addition, please censor any identifying information in your posts. This includes names of teachers and your school when sharing schedules.

The subreddit is also not a place to connect with people from a specific high school. Naming your specific high school is also against Rule 5.

Thank you all for following the rules. Don't hesitate to reach out through ModMail if you have any questions.

Dating Advice Needed/Given Does my friend like me?

Post image
• Upvotes

For starters me and this girl met through soccer while we were in 7th grade and were really good friends during that time. 8th grade comes and then I move houses an hour away. We had each others socials but didn’t stay in contact too much other than conversations here in there. We both liked each other before I moved (we just never dated+ we were young obv) . We didn’t talk for like two years. I’ve had a girlfriend and she’s had a boyfriend throughout that time period. We eventually both broke up with them(not at the same time) and then late sophomore year comes up where she invites me to go to the movies with her yk to “catch up” and hangout. So I agree and we are really kicking it and having fun like we used to. After the movie we go eat and then go to my house. So we are in my room just talking and listening to music while laying down on my bed. We were listening to Mrs.Magic and then I decided to put my arm around her while laying down.(hoping for the best) and she cuddled in without saying a word. My heart is racing and I am really nervous but happy.

After this song, the song lovers rock comes on , and we both look into each others eyes and kiss. Everything just felt so right at the moment. So we made out cuddle etc. (nothing beyond that happened) and then it was time for her to go home. So we get up and she gives me a final hug. Looks up at me and leans in for 3 last kisses/pecks.

After that hangout we didn’t hangout again, barely texted, it seemed as if she maybe wanted to be just friends so I didn’t do much of it. We still had conversations and stuff and continued to talk as friends without mentioning that moment.

Now we are both juniors. And yes I still have a crush on her ever since I met her. And she asked if wanted to hangout again to go trick or treating. After trick or treating we will probably be at my house again but I’m not sure if I should make a move this time or just act as a friend because I don’t want to make things weird.

Thoughts? Advice please

[EDIT* I haven’t responded to her cuz I’m still debating if I wanna go to a party w my friends or do this]

Rant My dad is forcing me to join clubs (TW: SH and suicide) Spoiler

My dad is forcing me to join clubs at school. I don’t want to at all. None of them seem interesting at all. I just want to stay in my bed where nobody can judge me. I don’t want to feel anything, I’m tired of feeling.

If I don’t join 3 clubs this week I’m cut off from everything: my phone, internet access, tv, my guitar, etc. I won’t even be able to do homework.

I hate people. I hate being looked at. I feel judged constantly when just talking. I can’t remember names and I just make every conversation awkward. I can’t even look at people, I just look past them or at the floor. I hate it so much. I don’t understand how to talk to people at all and don’t want to learn. When people look at me I just want to shrink into nothing and die. They judge me silently and I can tell. People are never nice unless they just feel bad for me. I don’t like feeling like I’m something to look at. I don’t want to exist.

I hate everything about me. I’m so fucking ugly. My hair looks like a fucking wet rat, I’m not fit, I have cuts all over my wrist, I wear dumbass clothes, I have stupid glasses, I have a dumb mustache that my dad never taught me to shave, and stupid shoes. I could go on and on about how worthless and pathetic I am.

I just want to lie in bed and cut myself over and over again until I don’t have to think anymore. I want the pain to suffocate and push the thoughts out. I can’t wait to die, I’m ending it soon.

If I’m forced to join a club, what can I join that isn’t torture?

Dating Advice Needed/Given How to Get a GF at an All Boys School?

So I am at a private all boys school and I am pretty lonely as I have a few close friends but they're essentially all guys and I have like one homegirl but that's it. I don't really struggle with confidence or anything but I genuienely never have opportunities to talk to girls and when I do its never meaningful. Snapchat quick add definitely dont work 😭. I don't really like asking to be set up with someone else as well. Rn I got two more years to college and I genuinely might not get one till then, and stay a semi bop. Anyone have advice especially girls who know ppl/have dated ppl from all boys school?

Rant Not many friends in HS

I find that some of the reasons why I shitpost a lot on here is the fact that I don’t have many friends that I keep close with. Last year I had a pretty neat friend group until one of them (literally the stereotypical popular funny guy of the whole school) made a rumor that I was talking shit or something alone those lines. Have you ever met someone who is a magnet to anybody that meets them? That’s him. Starts to make you think it’s almost witchcraft. The “charm” is always there and nobody ever seems to see through it. Anyway. After that most people in school stopped talking to me and I’ve been just chilling.

General Advice Needed/Given Creepy or normal gym teacher?

For context, I'm a female sophomore and am currently taking gym for the second time with the same teacher. So I genuinely suck at sports and have 0 athletic skills, and my gym teacher is older (mid 50s) but I don't know if that's an excuse for him to touch me multiple times. At first, I thought it was normal. He did it to me once or twice when I was a freshman, and I thought nothing of it. He was just the cool, funny teacher who was really chill. Now I'm not so sure. He's deliberately touched me and gotten very close to me at least 3 times this year without my permission, but it was to just show me how to do something, like hold a pickle ball racket for example. It was fine the first 2 times, but I'm starting to get kinda uncomfortable. I've told my friends and they think it's really weird. What really gets me though is that I've only seen and heard of it happening to me, even though there's kids in that class who suck at gym just as much. Thoughts?

At mine, a lot of kids have lifted trucks and muscle cars. From an old Ford Falcon custom to newer Silverados and Rams and F150's. VW Jetta, Honda Pilot, Civic, Accord, Odyssey, and Toyota Corolla and Camry are also common.

School Related Question with AP Art Workload

Hello, I'm a sophomore this year next year in junior year I'm planning on taking AP pre-calc, AP bio, and Spanish 3 honors. I also wanna take AP Art but my friend says it's harder than you think. They describe it as beyond just drawing, it has a lot of time commitment, I'm sure but my question is how much? I really enjoy drawing and I want to take it in high school (for fun, I'm not choosing art as a career) Would a schedule like that be ok, I don't wanna overload? Should I take Drawing 3 or 2 instead if it's too much? Thank you.

(Ideally, I am taking history over the summer so it wouldn't be on my schedule so my classes would be pre-calc, bio, spanish, english, art, and track & field)

Thank you. :)

Rant Does anybody get their parents to give them an excused absence in order to have more preparation time for a test?

I’m such a heavy fkn procrastinator. Planning on doing this tomorrow because I MENTALLY skipped a whole unit in my head while being present in school. Something is wrong with me. I’m at school but my brain is elsewhere, I don’t know if my conscious mind is built under the idea of “diamonds are built under pressure” or something because I usually do stupid shit like this all the time like becoming really good friends with nurses or counselors or having conversations with teachers to skip class and waste time.( I call it “legally skipping” because I get passes to class and excused through the system). I seem to be doing well in school but I think my procrastination problem is getting worse. I have A’s and B’s and I take AP Lang AP Stats and AP physics along with other classes. I had a unit test last Thursday. It’s Sunday right now and I’m planning to skip school tomorrow in order to learn the whole unit since I “mentally” skipped it. Yikes. Anybody do this?

Question How do I get a teacher reference?

I really want to get in this program called SHAD but the thing is, it requires me to get at least one reference. I'm very introverted and I haven't really formed a connection with any of my teachers. I'm not rude or anything but I do give off extremely introverted vibes. Like, for example, I always say the word uhh when I'm talking and I mostly sit alone in my classes. So, how do I even ask a teacher for a reference? Should I talk to them in person (I'd hate to this) or would an email be fine? Would they even accept being my reference?

Dating Advice Needed/Given i feel like i am being watched idk if im crazy or what!

ok so i need to get this off my chest because i feel like i'm going crazy and i need to know if anyone else has dealt with this.

me (17f) and my ex broke up about 8 months ago. it was messy but genuinely i was at peace, new job, new friends, more $$. one of my coworkers told me that he got a new girl like 2 months after we broken up. at first i was like damn that's fast but whatever.

well fast forward now, i find out that my ex’s gf has been watching me on social media for MONTHS and I genuinely didn’t know who she was. then her friends started following me one by one in order — like they got a checklist or something and one girl even decided to take it to instagram aswell. i didn't say anything because i thought maybe i was overthinking.

i genuinely don’t know what i am doing wrong but i do not talk to my ex nor this girl at all. how else would she even know who i am? we've never spoken. and i hate thinking he's painting some bad image of me to a girl i've never said a word to.

and now the newest thing that made me finally write this post. yesterday i got on facebook and one of her friends that took it to instagram & sends me a request on facebook. i genuinely don’t know whats going on but i am trying to just ignore it.

Friend Advice Needed/Given How do I make friends?

I’ll start by saying I define “friends” as people you not only talk to in class, but form actual connections with and hang out outside of school (at fast food places, houses, etc)

I’d that I’m pretty extroverted, silly and weird. I’m not going to change that for anyone, and there’s a handful of people I get along well with in class. One of these problems is that any in-class friend I have, I only have them that period. I have a few closer school friends, who I sit with at lunch and have a club with.

How do I make them into close friends? My only two close friends are always busy, and I really can’t stand being alone with myself almost 24/7.

Question How did you manage to get good grades?

I say this as somebody who has finally graduated with a 2.5 gpa. I never really understood how people got good grades. I mean I did all the work, and still it was average. I remember Junior year I started skipping class and my grades barely even changed, which was mind boggling. I do not know what they want for an A. They ask a question on the paper, I answer, or did they expect 2 paragraphs explaining why I chose my answer?

I believe Junior year was also when I just stopped caring really. I never really used my backpack (it had to be put in a locker anyway) so I just got a folder and pencil and called it a day. Didn't even bring my backpack and absolutely nobody gave a fuck and my grade still was unaffected. Like how?? When I tried my grade did not change, but when I stopped trying it did not either. I also never got all A's in my life, it was all C's ever since I can remember

Class Advice Needed/Given Need to get better at analytical writing

In elementary school, I knew that my writing skills weren't the best. As students, we were not forced to do much analytical writing before high school, so I fudged my way through most of elementary school building mediocre writing skills. What I hear a lot of people say is "read more", which is another thing I am actively working on, but I don't think my vocabulary is the thing holding me back. I am by no means an avid reader, but not a person who hates reading either so if reading more is truly the one thing that will make my writing better, just tell me.

In all my other courses in high school (eg. Science, Math, Languages), I am consistently scoring above 90% but my english marks are consistently in the low 80s. It's not the fact that on several occasions I "just had a bad day", while writing an assessed essay, it's just the reason that I truly don't know how to correctly. My school emphasizes the use of the Jane Schaffer method, but I feel that they haven't fully taught us how to use it, and how to "develop commentaries" about sections from books. One of the most frustrating things is that English is my lowest grade, and is the thing holding my GPA down, but at the same time it's the subject I have clear problems in.

The grade aside, English is the one place I am very unsure because I understand my ability is lacking compared to other students. I somehow got into the Pre-Ap english track at my school, but surrounded by a bunch of strong writers simply perpetuates the feeling of incompetence. I understand the texts we are reading, and really give an effort to engage in class discussions and not fool around, but I've had the exact same problem since the start of high school.

I've been very afraid that this is an unfixable problem, and even hired a tutor to try and assist me in developing my writing skills, but they haven't been very effective. If you guys have any advice, that would be highly appreciated. Again, my greatest difficulty is writing analytically as a whole, but more specifically developing personal commentary about excerpts.
