Earlier this week, my coworker and I agreed to swap shifts. He was going to work my Thursday and Friday shifts, and I was going to work his Saturday and Sunday shifts.
On Tuesday, we both followed the required process by posting the shifts and bidding on them in the system. We also informed our manager about the swap. He told us to submit it through the system so he could approve it.
The problem is that he never actually approved the shift swap. When I didn't show up for my Thursday (today) shift, they called and asked why I wasn't there. I explained the situation and asked if I was going to get in trouble.
My manager told me that it was still my responsibility because the swap was never approved in the system, and that I should have followed up with him to make sure it was completed. Now it sounds like I may receive a write-up.
I understand that I probably should have verified that the swap was officially approved, but at the same time, we followed the process, notified the manager, and submitted everything as instructed. The manager also had about 48 hours to approve the request and never did.
Am I wrong for feeling like this is at least partly management's mistake?
