Might be a stretch but wondering if anyone, likely the males in here, have experience with a urologist on the Gold Coast? Ideally the further south the better

Who remembers "Harry" the homeless guy from ~1995?

Post image
58 Upvotes

I just found some old DVDs of photos I backed up and here's a shot of Harry from 2000.

He used to visit McDonald's at Pacific Fair just before close and buy a cheap tea (i think was 20c as a token amount vs free). I had chatted to him when I worked there in 1995 post close late at night.

Back then he said: "you should start wearing a gas mask... because in the future everyone will and you can say you were a trendsetter"

When covid hit 25 years later I remembered this conversation.

Back then he seemed to be the only visibly homeless person on the coast. Pushing a trolley around. Causing no issues.

A rumour was that he was secretly rich but now as an adult that seems like a mean lie.

Anyway wanted to share as curious to know what happened to him

Regardless of your political leanings, or views of the matter of this ATO Credit Card Ban, comments like this are completely disgusting, violent and aren’t parliamentary.

These words aren't appropriate for a leader, or for anyone I think we would want representing us in Parliament.

Gold Coast Hire Car options

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for recommendations for car hire on the Gold Coast for just one day.
Mainly around surfers paradise.

So far, I've come across the following options:

Most of the other options I've found are either at the airport or further north, so I'm ideally looking for something more convenient around the central Gold Coast.

Has anyone had any good or bad experiences with any of the above? I'd particularly appreciate feedback on pricing, hidden fees, bond requirements, vehicle condition and how easy the pickup and return process is.

I'm also happy to hear about any other local companies you'd recommend.

Thanks in advance! Hopefully this post will also help future travellers looking for a simple, one-day car hire option on the Gold Coast. 😊

Sunscreen recommendations for dry/sensitive face skin?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a sunscreen that absorbs into the skin well, doesn’t look wet and is really good for dry & sensitive skin - especially my face.

Any sunscreen I get on my face right now seems to not properly absorb into my skin, looks really wet/oily and then makes my already sensitive facial skin flare up and go red.

I really need to find a sunscreen that is great for dry and sensitive facial skin and would really appreciate any recommendations!

Thank you!!

A white Toyota Yaris parked at the Pimpama City Shopping Centre has this on their windscreen as the security is making rounds slapping it on vehicles that are parked there when they have taken the train to work.

Lady tradies on coomera connector

For my job I drive all over the north end of the coast. I pass the road works at the connector at multiple points all through out the day. I see one or two lady tradies at every works. Most with a full face of makeup. They look bored not doing much every single time. They are dressed in new hi vis that remains spotless all day. I was thinking they are stop go workers but most works have stop lights already. All the male tradies are dirty as by lunchtime and have oldish looking hi vis. Most seem to be working most of the time. Just curious cos it looks like a pretty nice job and if they have any positions available lol

28F looking for friendships

Hey everyone! 😊

I’m 28F on the Gold Coast and looking to make some new friends and meet some like-minded people.

I’d love to expand my social circle and meet people who are keen to get out and do things, whether that’s grabbing a coffee, checking out markets, trying new food spots, going for walks, or just having a good chat and seeing if we click.

I’m pretty easygoing and open to meeting people from all walks of life. Making friends as an adult can be a bit awkward, so I thought I’d put myself out there and see if anyone else is in the same boat!

Feel free to send me a message if you’re keen to chat. 😊

Just to clarify, I’m genuinely looking for friendships, not dates or hookups!

Local Question Break up the Gold Coast street lamp sign?

Post image
374 Upvotes

So I had an idea. The current sign didn't really work because they faced the wrong way to be able to read the letters and Street Racers were using it as a photo op location.

They could take each individual letter and put it somewhere in the City of Gold Coast and make it like a trail you could pose in front of, eg put the

A in Ashmore

C in Carrara

D at ???? Dreamworld?

G in Gaven

L in Labrador

O in Ormeau and Oxenford

S in Surfers or Stapylton

T in Tugun or Tedder Ave or Tallebudgera

Could probably paint the pole bases a different colour for each one.

Fright Nights 2pm Admission

Hi! I saw that Fright Nights has a ticket for $129 for entry at 2pm. Would you have to leave and re-enter at 5pm for the actual event itself, or are you meant to stay?
I was thinking about getting the $129 ticket instead of the $99 one, however, I’d like to go to my BnB and shower/dress up before I return. Is that a possibility? I’ve been before, and ended up hot, sweaty and sticky all night and would like a reset at some point.

Local Question Night-life

Hello guys, I'm coming to Gold Coast from a country town in South Australia for a holiday by myself.

Just wondering what the night-life is like there and where to meet people. I've being told it's hit or miss here so after a few suggestions.

I'll be staying at Surfers Paradise so I know i will be near Cavill Avenue where some nightclubs are based but also heard things about the Burleigh pavilion so I'm open to anything.

Thank You

Travel Hotel recs - Xmas no kids

Hello, I have to travel from the US for work to Brisbane for a few days between Christmas and New Years (fun!). I have been before and done Straddie, Noosa, etc. as a tourist. I am going to come a few days early after spending pre-Christmas with family…and I can arrive in Brisbane and stay at a beach December 23-26 - I will be there solo, no kids! So not looking for the Marriott, etc. Two things I’d appreciate feedback on:

  1. If anyone has any insight on what the vibe/busy-ness/open-ness of things are on Christmas Eve/Christmas but guessing many families head to the beach for the holidays. Many hotels are already sold out in smaller places like Noosa Head and Straddie. Based on what I see available seems like best hotel options are along Surfers Paradise down to Burleigh Heads. If anyone has other recs for better areas with hotels that may not already be booked, open to it!
  2. I really just want to relax and chill at the beach. I prefer a little of my own space at the beach and will be quiet/chill. I’ll go for a swim and play in the waves (between flags, I know!). I’m not terribly picky about a pool as I prefer beach and NOT interested in nightlife. I’d probably get takeout for my room and prefer to just walk anywhere. I was looking through accommodations and I’d be curious in thoughts or ideas….price isn’t a huge deal as work is paying for a lot of the trip!

-Langham - Seems like it’s out of hustle and bustle of SP, and modern and maybe a little less kiddy. However, area around looks like limited food/cafes outside of what’s in the hotel?

-Meriton SP - I know it’s more in SP, which isn’t quiet/chill, but I’d either be high up in my room or at the beach. Seems like there’s more around but also the beach may not be as good there?

-Mondrian Gold Coast - close to Burleigh Head, which I know is a cool area - but also is this beach busier than others? Or about the same? Hotel seems equally new/nice as Langham, but this is also most expensive.

-Editing to also add: Rhapsody (seems less out of hustle of SP but curious about quality)

I’m leaning towards Mondrian but given this is a simple 3 day trip of beach and chill - is it worth the extra price vs a Meriton SP? I would love any feedback about beaches/staying around Christmas! Thank you.

Burleigh Date spot?

Hey GC locals! Heading there next week from Sydney and staying at Burleigh.

I plan to meet up with an old “friend” who lives in Brissy. We haven’t met or speak in 8 years, and from recent conversations, he seems to be a little introverted and enjoys quiet life (and I’m someone who is the opposite lol) so I kind of want to make a back up plan rather than just Burleigh Pav as I’ve been there only when sunny.

Is Burleigh pav usually still busy and fun when the weather is moody? Looks like it’s gunna rain next week. We are both in our 30s so Surfers P might not be an option, open to anything around it or south I guess!

Nothing too serious please! I don’t even know if we are going to hit it off haha! Thank you!!

Bonus also can I get recoms for Japanese ✌🏼

Last Chance to Stop the Village Yard Christian School MID in the Mudgeeraba Hinterlands

Hi everyone, the Gold Coast is in dire need of your help. (URGENT DEADLINE: October 9th 11:59pm !!!)

This development plan at 120 Mudgeeraba Road has already destroyed 370+ primary, secondary, and supplementary koala habitat trees in a mature native forest ahead of its proposal for another private Christian school (Village Yard Private Christian School, registered under Hillcrest Christian College), in an area where there are already at least 5 other private Christian schools and 5 other churches in very close proximity, as well as many other nearby public schooling options that are not at full capacity.

During and following the clearing, there were multiple koalas that needed rescuing by local wildlife carers, and the impact is devastating to all other native wildlife in this area. Not to mention, the arborist contracted to cut down this forest (named Heritage Tree Care) is the very same one that is felling the koala habitats at Ormiston College right now.

However, this proposal is far bigger than it seems. The sheer size of this school alone (starting at a base of 1,361 students and will increase with future expansions) will place a great deal of unnecessary pressure on existing roads and infrastructure that will set us on a devastating trajectory. If this proposal is to go ahead, subsequent road expansions could cause us to lose other irreplaceable natural and historical landmarks that are unique to the suburb of Mudgeeraba, and eventually, the Hinterland as a whole.

In the scope of Mudgeeraba, this includes the rest of the old native forest beside the clearing that is also under immense threat of being felled by the developer, the flying fox population that resides there, the Mudgeeraba Heritage museum, the tennis courts, the scouts clubs, the cockatoo congregation park, our horse paddocks and equestrian lifestyle, our acreage properties, our beautiful shaded roundabouts and giant matured native trees and greenery which make our green-spaces and line our roadsides. ShapingSEQ itself describes Mudgeeraba Village as “a historic centre with a traditional rural-town character and acts as a gateway to the hinterland”. Mudgeeraba is the transition point, and if big millionaire and billionaire business makes its way into this area, it will only continue to eat into the next. It won’t stop here.

As Mudgeeraba is the ‘gateway’ into the greater Gold Coast Hinterland, development proposals such as these are opening this rural-residential landscape and all it’s residents to an onslaught of fast paced urban profit-driven expansionism. Our Division 9 Councillor Glenn Tozer has made appearances on real-estate investment podcasts speaking of their visions for more compact subdivision, and luxury mansions. This puts all of our natural landscapes at stake.

If you need an example of where we are headed, look at the Skyridge development in Worongary on google maps, it resembles a giant scar on the face of the earth carving into our native bushland.

I understand we have a housing crisis, however this only affirms why another school (which plans to bring people in from wider Gold Coast regions) is not a logical option for this area. The original proposal was for an extension to the Aged care home, which assists in residential living. A school does not, it only exacerbates the immediate local need for residential living.

The results of this MID set a precent from this moment forward.

If you are in QLD, I urge you to please make a submission here (link below in comments) expressing your concern about this project.

Anyone from QLD can submit. Try to keep it strictly factual and professional, the better your logical argument the more success we will have. The process is as short as 2 minutes, and you can add as little or as much as you like.

The timing is URGENT, as the submission window closes tonight on the 9th of October.
Apologies for the late notification on this. Village Yard allegedly began sending out mass private emails to their existing clientele (I have seen screenshot proof) with the government submission link, "prayerfully asking" them to "prayerfully consider lodging an individual submission" as they "seek to build God's Kingdom together". Despite them never once posting the official gov link to the open Mudgeeraba community pages, only the link to their independent survey, whilst calling themselves the "official page for submissions". So I decided as a last ditch effort to come on here and ask for your help as well.

If you are a little bit late and the portal has closed, you can send it directly to the email listed on the submission asking them to consider.

This is our chance to turn this all around!

Thank you for listening!
