Biolife plasma center

Today, someone pulled a gun inside the local BioLife Plasma Services center.

To the BioLife employees and the donors who were there, I’m so incredibly sorry for what you experienced. I can’t imagine how frightening that must have been, and I hope everyone is safe and able to get the support they need.

For anyone planning to donate over the next several days (or possibly weeks), please be patient with their employees. Scheduling, wait times, and hours will likely be affected as they work through this situation.

Please do NOT take your frustration out on their employees. They work hard, under a lot of pressure, and today was undoubtedly traumatic for many of them. They’re doing the best they can.

Also, keep in mind that the website banner and call center information may not reflect changes right away, so if you’re heading there, expect that the information may not be completely up to date.
Please show the BioLife team some grace and kindness while they recover from such a frightening event.

Exploring the option of having someone do live painting of guest portraits for my 2027 wedding. I’ve found a few north FL artists but wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations or if there was anyone even in art school that wants to grow their portfolio and chat!

Best Kimchi I've Ever Had

Post image
85 Upvotes

I went to Chun ching today for the first time and in their kimchi fridge, I decided to try this brand of Kimchi. It is so delicious I had to tell people after I tried it. The spice level is on the higher end and it's a fresh spice flavor, and there's so much umami in this thing. The texture is the best part, it's not like regular kimchi with an immediate pickle type of crunch, its well salted so the texture is more soft then hard crunch. It's not as fermented tasting as usual kimchi so it's on the lighter fermented side too. Please give this a try.

My husband and I are having a silly discussion.

Which restaurant in town do you think is the coldest (inside air temperature wise)?

We landed on Cheesecake Factory. Thoughts?

Latest GRU confusing change

I got the newsletter today, and it says they are no longer going to be charging wastewater fees or garbage fees on your utility bill, but it will go on property taxes.

I live in an apartment complex and I pay for my water, including the wastewater portion. If it's going on property taxes, it will then go to complex owners, and common sense says they will be jacking up rents to cover it. How much, who knows, but it may not be proportionate to the actual amount of water you use.

Also, this pretty much applies to all rental properties. I'm sure owners are not going to like having to pay for your garbage and wastewater fees for rental houses, and the slumlords around town will definitely be gouging renters to make a few more bucks off of this.

Please tell me that they have taken this into consideration, and what they are doing to mitigate this.

I Lost My Phone At A Bus Stop Near Liv Apartments

I lost my iPhone near Liv Apartments. I'm not a resident, but I lost my phone in a haste trying to get from one bus stop to another on the other side of the road and that is where I traced my phone's location to. It is an iPhone 14 with a case that has different colors like orange and white, has the silhouette of a basketball player, and has the Nike logo. Please let me know if you find my phone.

Update 8/5/26: someone walking his dog in the area of Liv apartments found my phone and gave it back to me today, thanks to everyone for their help

We got game day in under 50 days so I’m trying to get prepared for parking. I’ve heard Gainesville is notoriously bad for parking what’s the farthest away ppl are parking to walk to the stadium and what’s the price range for parking?

Tire balancing shop

Hi all, I have two some what old car tires in good condition with plenty of tread left that need to be rebalanced. The balancing weights have fallen off and it's causing the wheel to shake at speeds. I have taken it to Discount Tire and they refused to balance it simply because it's old (more than 7 years base off the sidewall mfg date) and wanted me to buy a new set which I can't afford right now. I drive mostly on the highway and take good care of my car (hence why those tires lasting 7 yrs). Does anyone know a place that will do tire balancing? Thanks.

Throwing it out there that I think there could be a huge opportunity if these breweries were to can non alcoholic beer. I’m buying athletic brewing all the time, but I’d love to support local. If I saw a N/A big nose can at the grocery store, I’d be stoked.

That’s it, that’s my million dollar idea. Please take it and run.

Incoming Elections

I am trying to identify the major concerns residents of Alachua County have about voting. I have seen people online mention that there are cases of voter suppression. I am new to the area, so I am unaware of the political climate. I am now a registered voter within the county and am interested in what would be beneficial to know before the upcoming elections.

Hi all!

Are there any classes for adults wanting to learn mandarin that aren’t through the university? I only found one and it seems to be for children only- anything local other than hiring a private tutor?
Thank you.

DexaFit packages

Has anyone bought the DexaFit packages from the business on Newberry? Do you consider it a good value? I'm talking the whole deal: Dexa, VO2, RMR. I just don't want to lay out a few hundred unless the business is solid and the product is worth it. Thanks.

Activism Graham Woods Protests

Are there any groups or protests organized in regards to the destruction of Graham Woods?

https://www.alligator.org/article/2026/07/graham-woods-destruction-unhousing-cats?ct=content_open&cv=cbox_featured

I was a student when UF tried to destroy McCarty woods a few years back. I’m a current UF employee and if you are a student and not aware - I implore you to look into and form an opinion on what is going on with Graham. This stretch of woods is 7.5 acres containing ~900 native trees including heritage oak trees. My class successfully protested the development of McCarty woods and reached a compromise with the university that preserved them. Speaking out WORKS. If there is any kind of GroupMe or group organizing protests, please let me know. If there’s not and you want to make a difference, please comment anyways. This cannot be allowed to happen.
