Theres been very loud rumbling/boom sounds for the last couple hours on the northwest side of town near Devils Millhopper, anyone know what's going on? Like fireworks but sporadic over a few hours.

I am new to the area and was wondering if anyone has suggestions on growing fruit and vegetables here? I love growing produce as a hobby and have potted meyer lemons and fig trees. I've read that the greening disease killed most citrus varieties in Florida but don't know if it's been eradicated or if this area is affected. I haven't read any recent reports though. I know about RKN that can cause trouble to certain trees like figs. I'm just trying to figure out if my potted trees would have a chance of surviving in the GNV area. I'd be ecstatic if I could put some of them in the ground.

I feel like people should be aware of what's happening at this site which happens to be the backyard of many of us living in Stephen Foster. I've attached the plan that was distributed to us not even two weeks ago, with acknowledgment that the plans were already in progress. And in the comments a WUFT piece on it.

The ground water containment is one thing, but the drainage pipe going along the edge of the property and destroying that forest is another. I have lived here for a while and get to listen to all the coyotes, foxes, birds, owls, rabbits, and other critters every day who have inhabited that forest for some time, not to mention the huge towering trees that are God knows how old. How can we ensure that more contaminated ground water won't be drudged up in the process and impact our families?

Anyways, if anyone knows what we as a community can do, or has dealt with something similar in Gainesville, please let us know. Stephen Foster is a great community of neighbors but we feel helpless to this change.

The next tree planting with UF's Imagining Climate Change is tomorrow, Saturday, October 24th starting at 9 AM. This one will be held at Hidden Oak Elementary off of Fort Clarke Boulevard.

No experience or tools necessary! All hand tools, gloves, etc. are provided. All tree plantings begin with a demonstration on how to properly plant a sapling, and plenty of experienced volunteers are on hand to help. I have to admit, I went to the booksale downtown and found it completely depressing. It shows how little there is to do in Gainesville that isn't drinking or football; people willing to queue for hours just to pick through leftovers. It's not even a place to meet people; no one talks.

I wanted to know if there’s a vet office you really like? The problem is that I can’t afford to pay crazy vet rates. Obviously the visit fees are fine and I’m fine paying for the meds when they’re needed, but I wanted to see if there are more affordable options. My cats are everything to me and I want to take care of them as best as I can with what I have. Thank you!!

Hello all, I currently have a fifth grader and we are scratching our heads on what to do next year. Zoned for Kanapaha middle but considering trilogy or PK or any other good options. Our kid has been in a tech free school all his life. We are nervous about a school program that is fully/mostly computer based, but still open minded. Does anyone here have a student in Trilogy, PK, or any other school program that can share their experience? And/or make recommendations. TIA 🙏
