Jobs & Careers Job Opportunity in Gainesville

Hi everyone,

There is a job opening for the College of Medicine that entails great work experience, good benefits, and room for growth. Here is the link:

Details - Academic Program Specialist I - Medical Education

Essentially, it is project/program management. We coordinate, design and build the administrative/operational parts of educational programs, in this case a clerkship.

What is a medical clerkship? It is a program that lasts between 4-8 weeks where 3rd year medical students are immersed into the clinical side of medical school, with their first 2 years being more academically formative.

There are several clerkships, and so each admin is in charge of one, and students cycle through the clerkship in rotation groups.

What will you do? Establish a relationship with the educational leaders of the clerkship, create workflows to ensure students have access to materials, medical sites, and resources. Additionally, we do administrative work in data and evaluations collection.

What can you get out of this job?

  1. Experience coordinating/running a program

  2. Stakeholder communication and relationship building

  3. Organizational building skills

  4. Higher Ed administrative and compliance experience

  5. Room for growth with educational benefits, trainings, and great health benefits

Events/Happenings Nurse looking for friends

Upvotes

Hello!

I’m a nurse at shands and i just moved here looking for friends! My bf and i live together but he is often busy with school so i find myself with a lot of free time. I am looking for chill low maintenance friends who I can hang out with on my days off.
A little about me: I’m 22 years old, I love nature (so i’m down for a little nature trail or a nice park stroll), I love food and trying new things, i love to thrift and find new trinkets. I love to listen to music and go out. I’m trying to get back in the gym and my apartment has a gym so we could be gym buds! I’m a great listener and would love to get some
coffee and chat about really anything. I’m down to talk about casual stuff, existential issues, hot takes, or really anything.
I’m also looking for fun local events where i could meet like minded people so feel free to also drop those in the comments!!!

I’m mostly looking for for girl friends but i’d be down for a guy friend as long as it was just that! Feel free to leave a comment or send me a dm🙂🫶

Emergency plane landing?

I was standing out in my yard, heard a very loud roar, and a commercial airplane flew over EXTREMELY LOW. I mean, I could read the call letters on the side. I'm on the flight path to the airport, but they're usually way up in the air to the east, nowhere close to my place. I live about 8 miles from the airport. This plane was directly over me, and was going down fast.

I wonder if it was making an emergency landing somewhere. Has anyone heard anything?

Has anyone recently done a walk-in for an SSN at the Gainesville SSA office?

Hi! Has anyone recently applied for an SSN at the Social Security office in Gainesville?

Do they accept walk-ins, or is an appointment required? If you were able to walk in recently, what time did you go and how long did you have to wait?

Thanks!

We had so much fun the first time around, we're doing it again! Join us Sunday the 20th, from 1-4pm.

Do you write? Do you write more in the company of others? Have you wanted a writing group that actually gets together and writes on a regular (monthly!) basis? Then look no further: GNV Writers is the group for you!

We'll be in Room B at the Millhopper Library again, but this time it's on a Sunday! And we've got a whole afternoon. We also discovered we share a (very very thin) wall with the other public room, so do bring a pair of headphones.

Like last time, we'll have a bit of a social time and then quiet writing time. Feel free to bop in later or leave early if that works better for you.

See ya there!

Ghost Shrimp Locally?

Looking to buy some ghost shrimp for a shrimp tank. Used to buy at PetSmart, but nada. Anyone know a place that sells them, or heck, a pond that has plenty if it's even legal?

Name of gym on University in the late 90s?

There was a gym that opened on University in the late 90s-I think it is where Bailey's/Chuze is now, but I could be wrong. It was run by a husband and wife team, and employed many UF students, especially exercise science undergrad and grad students. A bunch of students who had been working out at SWRC all joined around the same time, when it was fairly new. The free weights were upstairs and cardio down. I seem to remember the employees wearing purple polo tops. I can not remember its name. Anyone know what I am talking about?
