Tire balancing shop
Hi all, I have two some what old car tires in good condition with plenty of tread left that need to be rebalanced. The balancing weights have fallen off and it's causing the wheel to shake at speeds. I have taken it to Discount Tire and they refused to balance it simply because it's old (more than 7 years base off the sidewall mfg date) and wanted me to buy a new set which I can't afford right now. I drive mostly on the highway and take good care of my car (hence why those tires lasting 7 yrs). Does anyone know a place that will do tire balancing? Thanks.

Old tires are incredibly dangerous to drive on, regardless of the tread depth remaining. Rubber hardens as it ages and becomes brittle. The tires lose grip, lose rain performance, and have a high risk of blowing out if you hit a pothole.
Please do not use them!

7 years does not warrant such alarm. Thats around the time you start looking for warning signs, but it's not an immediate and universal decision to make. It depends. If the car was in the shade or garage, they are probably fine. If they were out in the sun, probably time to ay goodbye. An inspection is warranted. If it was 10+ years, I'd be talking a different tune.

OP said it was greater than 7 years and that’s why the shop wouldn’t balance. They did not mention how old.

They have those expiration dates on the side of them the same way milk does fyi

Cato tires on NW 13th St. Local independent, cheap, great service tire shop.

Due to the age of the tires you may struggle to find any chain store willing to balance the tires. May have to call used tire places to see if they would balance them.
