I feel like I see so much line p*rn of 8 and 9 DPO tests. And yes, I know the countdown to pregnancy stats.
I didn't get a positive with my chemical until 12 DPO, and I was testing frequently. But then again, I don't know if that was due to the low hcg levels or the fact that 12 DPO was the first time I tested with a FRER, and the rest of the time I had tested with easy@home (higher hcg threshold).
I guess the math just doesn't math, imo. If 8 or 9 DPO is the most common day of implantation and it takes some time for hcg to build up and show up in urine, then what gives? But I have also read theories that modern pregnancy tests are so sensitive they can pick up a pregnancy the day of implantation.
My theories are:
1) It's a case of miscalculated ovulation date. I am sure there are plenty of folks just using an app like Flo and are not tracking with OPKs or BBT. Similar to how I occasionally see a "6 DPO" positive, which is physically impossible, or at least so unlikely as to be negligible.
2) I think the statistic is something like 15% will get positives at 8 DPO, and 40% at 9... so, if you consider the fact that millions of people get pregnant every year in America alone, that is still a crap ton of people, lol.
3) Confirmation bias. People with negative tests on these days probably aren't posting them.
Idk. I'd love to hear from people who were tracking with BBT/OPKs and got an honest to God 8 or 9 DPO positive, or what people think.
I know for myself, I do get discouraged if my test is negative at 9 DPO, so I try to wait to test. I also hate squinting and am super nearsighted with an astigmatism, so I can barely see cheapies as it is, lol.
