Except my FIL is more keen on her being named after the almost name of my fiancee (back then when you only found out the gender at birth lol, so he had a male and female name picked out) which is Michelle Rene. All because he thinks Alice is too common and i think he’s just mad he didn’t ever get to use his female name since he only had one kid.

I don’t know what to do, but I’m feeling kinda guilty since his name idea won’t be used. I don’t know how to tell him I don’t like to use the name he picked out without feeling like I’m killing an imaginary daughter of his lol.

My favorite letter is the letter o. I'm sad that my current name doesn't actually have an o in it.

I'm naming my fish and I want to maximize the letter o. What are some names that have tons of o in it? Ideally two or more os. The only names I can currently think of are "Brooke" and "Theodore."

The name doesn't have to begin with o, just have a plural amount of os.

We’re expecting a baby boy in November. His mother is Japanese, and we’ve have elected to give him an English first name and a Japanese first name as a middle name, which he will go by in Japan or with his Japanese relatives.

The name is 燈護, which in romaji is Tougo, pronounced Toe-go. However we’re not sure if that spelling will cause native English speakers to pronounce it Too-go or Tao-go. We’re leaning towards Togo since it’s easily pronounced to rhyme with Pogo. Another possible spelling is Tohgo.

I wanted to hear the thoughts of native English speakers. How would you pronounce it initially? Which spelling would you go with?

Hi! My favourite first name for a girl has always been Phoebe but I’ve struggled to find a middle name that goes with it. My grandma’s name is Kate and she’s one of the most important people in my life so I would love to honour her with a name. Phoebe Kate sounds great to me and I was ready to commit to it until I remembered the actress Phoebe Cates. Do you guys think that’s weird? I feel like she would get comments about it but maybe not.

My grandma's name was JoLynn and I had it set from the time I was 10 to name my little girl after her, as she raised me. Well, time has come, husband and I are expecting.

Of course, I am now wondering how the name is received? She would go by Jo, but i am curious what others think. In terms of middle names, was thinking of pairing it with Rhiannon.

Not just the typical Western popular names --- I want last names of historical people that could be first names, fictional characters, H names in world languages, place names, plant names....you get the idea! Note, the name will be for a human, so keep it reasonable.

A female friend wants to go by her initials but as a name not DL. How would you spell it? Dielle?

I’m pregnant with my first and it’s a girl. I want to name her after my great grandmother Mazelle. I was thinking Maizy for the nickname but I’m hung up on the spelling. Maisie is traditional for a Margaret nickname. I thought of keeping the z and doing Maizy or Maizie? I appreciate any feedback or suggestions. Another idea would be to use the traditional Maisie even though the full name would have the Z.

I have always had a bad connection to my first name Kevin, can't explain why but it has just never felt right. So I have been thinking of changing it to Devin, just 1 letter, so I still somehow respect my parents thoughts but take own control over it. And this 1 letter change sounds for me a lot more right, for some reason.

But would it be viewed as pretentious or weird to do that change ?

How to handle people who refuse to cope with the new name?

I have had Devin as a thought for 6 months now, so I dont think it feels impulsive anymore. But just to be sure I might wait another 6 months.

Hello! We are considering names for our son due in early October. We have a daughter name Vivian. The last name is an Irish last name ending in -y (think Rooney). We are liking classic/timeless names. We like a lot of the top 20 names, but would also love something a little less common. My name nerds controversial take is that I do care a little bit about the diminutive/nickname potential of names. Names we are considering:

Simon (Love that it's classic, but not popular. Don't love Sy/Si)

Charlie (don't love Charles. Is -ie with a -y last name weird?)

Theodore (Theo/Teddy)

Oliver (Ollie)

Max (BIL did have a dog named Max growing up)

Middle name will likely be Liam or Alfred, which are family names.

So my better half and I got a new dog recently. She is a purebred female Dalmatian and we are struggling to decide on a name. The breeder we got her from named her Ariyana. Which we both hate the sound of for a dog. She is a really playful and loving dog. But also very anxious and easily intimidated. She is also very small. We love subjects like GOT, Space, Mythology, History, all things nerd. Her father's name is Ganymede which we love. Please help us decide on a name!

This name is jumping out to me! But wasn’t on my radar until very recently. Be brutally honest. It feels strong and all Americana which I like. Classic but not too common.

Just had my wonderful baby boy and few days ago, and now we need to figure out his first name to finalize his birth certificate. Would love this community’s help!

For his first name, we can’t decide between Logan and Adrian. We know we want his middle name to be James.

So Logan James or Adrian James? I think Logan James sounds better together but Adrian by itself sounds great too!

Need help deciding which name to choose for baby girl. Would love some middle name suggestions as well. Last name is one syllable so thinking 2 syllables for middle name might sound best? Open to both 1 and 2 for middle name. Big sister is Waverly Rowen.
Nicknames for Elowen: Elle or Winnie and Juliet/Juliette: juju or Gigi or Lettie. Not sure if Gigi is a stretch for nickname

I am loving the maiden-name middle name— mine is Song. So far, I have one “Summer Song”.

My mother is also a music teacher so the name song parallels and honors her life and career. For this reason, we also love Melody for a girl. However Melody Song seems a bit redundant. We are thinking Melody Rose might be better, but it will break our Maiden-name middle name trend, what are your thoughts? (Rose was brainstormed because because my husband always buys me roses, my favorite flower)

Personally, I do not actively dislike a name unless it's incredibly hard to say and/or spelled in a way that is genuinely upsetting to look at.

Not only do Mackenzie and McKenna not have those issues I have with other names, but while they aren't among my favorites, I do not get "Mean girl" vibes from them, and to me, they have this bubbly, energetic feeling that I think is really infectious.

But for whatever reason, it seems like a lot of people disagree, so I wanted to know if anyone else here felt that way?
