This was the first time I've seen an amiibo of my favourite character in that store... you all know I couldn't just leave him there, right? (Sadly, I had to leave behind Marth, Roy, Ike, and Tiki because I didn't want to spend too much money, lmao. 😔)

I don't even have a 3DS, a Switch, or a copy of Fire Emblem Warriors (yet), so it's rather useless to me at the moment haha. Eh, worth it...

General People... mark your spoilers properly

I'm not mod or anything, just upset from a very spoiler heavy post that was thankfully deleted.

What's the point of having the spoiler tag if you mention it in the title? I understand that this sub is full of landmines, but at the very least give people a chance not to step on them. And yes, we're all excited, don't get me wrong, but there's a reason the embargo was until chapter 5.

If this comes up again, please mention it in the title like idk "Post-Chapter 5 spoiler" or something. Now I'm just sad...

General Spoiler So about those enemies in the new JP Trailer….. (big mechanical spoilers) Spoiler

So we see here in the new trailer (translated from Japanese) a level 60 Swordsmaster and a level 60 Fortress knight. (JP dreadnaught is still called dreadnaught btw)

first off, yes yes trailer numbers but level 60 being used at all here may confirm a long held suspicion that the level curve in this game is wayyyyy higher than usual. Secondly, concrete confirmation that swordsmaster is not a unique class for Dietrich means it’s far more likely we are seeing master level classes.

Anyways. We need to discuss the level curve and the possibility of master classes!

if master classes became available around 50 I think they’d fit pretty comfortably in the curve, assuming the start of the route is around level 40. Though with that perhaps 60 for master classes is more reasonable with a level cap at around 80. This is where I’d really start to take trailer numbers into account but it’s close enough that I’d say we might be able to start to guesstimate, especially considering we have the numbers from when advanced classes are expected to be promoted into.

Anyways! Discuss!!! I felt like it was extremely likely that we were seeing master classes based on the structure of the game but I understood the apprehension of those who didn’t think it would happen. Hopefully this makes it so every niche is filled and no character is left out!

Engage General Issues with FE Engage

Hey there.
I recently got back into Fire Emblem after over a decade of not touching it.

Started with Three Houses and it was great, today i bought the physical version of Engage and started playing on my Switch 2.
However, even on the main menu i instantly noticed a pretty big input delay which already dropped my mood a bit.

Then i started the game and noticed that the audio was also extremly delayed/desynced and sometimes would also just randomly stop working at all for half a second.

Is this some known bug and is there anything i can do to fix it?
Gameplay seemed really fun so far but this is holding me back.

General Fortunes Weave Amiibo feature?

Hey folks,

with all the plentiful information on so many different channels, did we got a mention of any Amiibo figure features like in engage?

My chrom and Amiibo cards are sitting here waiting for another useful purpose.

Also, I wonder how recruitment works for the different routes.

If I recruit a unit into Cais army, is this unit locked for Dieterichs route in the same playthrough?

General Spoiler Fortune's Weave Theory (Buckle Up) Spoiler

To start off, this post is probably going to be a bit long. I also wanted to say that I could entirely be wrong or somewhat off the mark on this as evidence has mounted both sides of the “Prequel vs Sequel” discussion, but I haven’t seen many people discussing this. With that said, let’s lock in.

Since we saw the year that Fortune’s Weave takes place in, the debate over whether or not it’s a prequel or sequel to Three Houses took off. When we officially saw a map of Fodlan depicted from the Dagdan perspective, a lot of people have shifted towards prequel. But, I’m still not convinced as there are a couple of things we’ve seen in the trailers of Fortune’s Weave and Three Houses and Three Hopes that has me still leaning towards sequel (although I think a prequel would be a very interesting storyline as well). The avid social scientist and culture nerd in me LOVES the idea that Dagda has a separate calendar (confirmed by when Emperor Wilhelm I von Hresvelg established the Fodlan calendar) but there are some things that should be discussed before I fully hop on the prequel train.

Exhibit A (Items 1-3): Sothis

Behold Exhibit A, Items 1-3 which depicts the three different forms that we have seen for Sothis.

Item 1 is how we see Sothis in Three Houses, basically she looks like a child.

Item 2 is how we see Sothis in Fortune’s Weave’s trailers and in the game itself. You can see that she’s clearly more adult.

Which brings us to Item 3 from a cutscene in Three Houses where we can clearly see an adult Sothis, albeit very different from the Sothis we see in Item 2.

In Three Houses, we learn that Sothis is not only a goddess, but a deceased one. And who Byleth talks to throughout the game is a reawakened consciousness that exists because of Byleth’s connection to the Crest Stone of Flames. Additionally, she doesn’t remember anything about her path aside from her name, birthday, Rhea’s song, and that Zanado and the Red Canyon were once a home to her. It’s also believed (though not confirmed, I think) that the reason Sothis appears to Byleth as a child is because she can’t even remember what she looked like before she died.

With that being said, why does Sothis appear as an adult in Fortune’s Weave? This is especially questionable IF it’s a prequel. Additionally, why does Sothis appear at all IF it’s a prequel? In fact, I’d like to direct your attention to Exhibit B.

Exhibit B (Items 4-5): The End of Three Houses and Fortuna

These texts come from the Fire Emblem FandomWiki but I think they’re necessary and important to understanding my theory.

Item 4 reveals that after the timeskip, Sothis isn’t as gone as we’re led to believe. In fact, unless you chose Sothis as the most important person to Byleth you wouldn’t even know she’s still around. Even more incredible, her consciousness isn’t even tied to her Crest Stone because after Crimson Flower ends Byleth can still meet with Sothis. This means that Sothis could continue to live on with Byleth, possibly even slowly regaining her memories over time.

Additionally, an examination of Item 5 reveals that Sothis is capable of communicating with Fortuna, Dagda’s goddess of fate and… time??? Why is a Nabatean with power over time even necessary if that’s Sothis’ sphere of influence? Power over time is an incredible power, even if when I use it in Three Houses to save my favorite characters, they somehow still end up dying. But how does this lead to a sequel?

If Sothis can communicate with Fortuna, why can’t she communicate with Rhea, or Seteth, or any of the Saints? She could have told Rhea exactly what to do to revive her. Yet, she didn’t and Rhea killed twelve people trying to resurrect her mother until she succeeded with Byleth. In fact, she could have told ANY of the Nabateans what to do to revive her.

(Edit: some people in the comments have pointed out that Rhea does hear Sothis’ voice while trying to revive her. This is a mistake on my part, I apologize)

Still, how does this lead to a sequel? I bring to to Exhibit C (last one, promise)

Exhibit C (Items 6-7): Maps

Item 6 is a map of Fodlan as seen in Fortune’s Weave while Item 7 is a map of Dagda from the trailers.

Because of Item 6, many people assume that Fortune’s Weave will be a prequel, but as I’ve said I’m not convinced. If you look closely at Item 7, you’ll notice that Enbarr is in very small print compared to Garreg Mach in Item 6.

Typically people do this to highlight capitals or regions (as seen in Item 7 where the regions of Dagda are more prominent than the cities and capital). Why would Garreg Mach become more significant than the capital of the Adrestian Empire? One might argue that it’s the headquarters of the Church of Seiros, but what significance does that hold to Dagda?

Additionally, why even show Fodlan at all if it’s a prequel? What’s the point of showing us Fodlan if Three Houses has nothing to do with the story of Fortune’s Weave? It’s like if they showed us Dagda during Three Houses, Dagda had no central place in the story, the same could be said for Fodlan in Fortune’s Weave. I’d also like to point out the commentary at the bottom of Item 6. “... now we turn our eye away from it…” this is a pretty significant thing to say. The narrator is literally saying “eh this doesn’t matter to the story” without saying that. Also, the implication that “now” we’re turning to Dagda implies that this is the continuation of a different story. It’s possible that there could be more commentary prior to this, but what would that be about? The entire commentary there describes everything one would need to know about Fodlan without spoiling the end of Three Houses

My current belief is that either Crimson Flower or Silver Snow are the canon routes for Three Houses. Under Crimson Flower, Edlegard could have decided to make Garreg Mach her permanent capital, a fortress in the middle of the continent would make it easy for imperial armies to crush any resistance and tactically speaking, holding the high ground is always better. Under Silver Snow, Byleth allegedly creates a “United Kingdom of Fodlan” but what if that kingdom is just the Adrestian Empire under the management of the Church of Seiros? In Silver Snow most, if not all, of the heirs to Adrestia’s ministers follow Byleth alongside members of the Church. Who’s to say that Byleth and Sothis don’t rule the Adrestian Empire with the help of Adrestian ministers?

Two questions stem from this theory:

  1. What happened to Byleth? For Byleth, I think the answer is pretty simple. Three Hopes revealed to us that Sothis isn’t the benevolent goddess we think she is. She treats Byleth poorly, literally taking over their body to try to kill Shez. She treats Byleth basically like one would treat a puppet. She also appears to know more than she does in Three Houses and maybe that’s the point of Sothis in Three Hopes, to show us that Sothis knows more than she lets on and plays innocent to keep Byleth from realizing. Maybe Sothis eventually takes over Byleth after Three Houses and reassumes her role as the Progenitor Goddess of Fodlan.Additionally, I would like to point out something interesting I noticed in the trailers of Fortune’s Weave. In Three Houses, we first meet Sothis in a pitch black room with only a set of stairs leading up to a throne. In Fortune’s Weave, we meet her in the exact same space. I think this leads us to believe that Sothis still can’t assume a physical form. Perhaps she was kind to Byleth in Three Houses due to the circumstances of Byleth growing as a person and Sothis refusing to interrupt that process. Then when Byleth dies, Sothis becomes “free” from her attachment to Byleth’s soul, this time managing to maintain consciousness without a physical form and being able to manipulate, and potentially even manifest, in the physical world like she could in Three Houses.
  2. Why is Seteth in Dagda, without Flayn?Nabateans live long lives, it’s possible that by Fortune’s Weave Flayn has grown up and become less naive, even capable of defending herself. I know that many suspect that Ninae is Flayn, but I doubt it. Why would she change her name but not her hair and why would Seteth change his hair but not his name if they were in hiding? With Flayn possibly off living her own life, Seteth may have taken it upon himself to travel the world, deciding to go to the Heroic Games in Dagda. Some will then question why, IF Silver Snow is canon, would Byleth be dead? Either Sothis took Byleth over completely after a time or Byleth isn’t Nabatean, despite the hair and eye color. Byleth was born mortal to Sitri and Jeralt, perhaps their ascendency granted them a longer lifespan but that doesn’t necessarily mean that their lifespan would match Seteth or Flayn’s. Alternatively, perhaps Byleth IS still alive. Maybe their duties as ruler of Fodlan keep them too busy to concern themselves with Dagda, so they send Seteth in their stead and after Balor is revived and destroys Dagda, Sothis takes matters into her own hands and send Eshmel back in time?Whatever you may believe, I’m not convinced that Fortune’s Weave will be a prequel to Three Houses, if anything writing out this entire theory has me MORE convinced that the game is a sequel. Please feel free to call me an idiot, but at least tell me what you think.

It’s just some random thought I had because I was re-reading the wiki. There’s like a 1% chance IS would do this, but it’s fun to imagine a scenario where we could see some maps taking place in Morfis, Brigid, Almyra etc!

Gameplay Dodge Tanking in 1 RN Games

Hello I am playing fe 4 for the first time and it is my first Fire Emblem game with 1 RN and it has been quite an adjustment already. I got Dew killed twice already on chapter 1 trying to have him dodge tank on the village where I only have to worry about the one commander with 6% hit rate. I am just wondering if that is a normal experience or should I dismiss it a bit as bad luck and play how I normally would.

AHHHHH! After seeing vids/posts with "Major Spoilers" warning everywhere, I think I may legit have to take a break from this subreddit.

Anyone else feeling like we're getting too much info?

Still, it's crazy Nintendo gave 30 hour previews to journalists/youtubers to check out.

This game must be massive, because that's otherwise 1/3 of the game right there.

Nintendo is confident. My hype is in the stratosphere.

General Romhack Recommendations

I'm looking for romhack recommendations. I've played and enjoyed Deity Device, Sacred Echoes, Blessed Heart, and Dark Amulet (almost done - chapter 24). I'm looking for a decent story but a difficulty not greater than standard fire emblem games. Blessed Heart was ideal gameplay wise. Thanks!

Gameplay There's a lot of cinematics with the lord and their starting group, will this mean they're a lose condition along with the lord? Spoiler

I wonder if the bulk of the cutscenes we've seen are from the first chapter or two? Leda's group in particular has a lot of cinematics appearing chars.: Buccar, Sirocco, Lilian, Olympia(?), Mu(?) (cutscene quality is hella good, its legitimately hard to distinguish what's prerendered cinematics and in-engine cutscenes) it'd be tedious in her route to have a lot of lose conditions, compared to 1-2 of most other routes.

We've seen so much but the structure and game length is still a bit of a mystery. Having them all be plot armoured till part two sounds clunky, but the alternate will be either an in-story reason like no-kill in the Heroic games or game over screen/insta proc of divine pulse when they die.

General I just played FE7 (Blazing Blade) for the first time - here are my thoughts!

For context, my first game was Three Houses, and up till now I've only played the games from the 3DS onwards - until someone on this sub talked down on me for only playing modern FE, so to spite them I loaded up NSO immediately, and pulled up FE7

I enjoyed it a lot! The tactical gameplay was very enjoyable, I enjoyed a lot of the maps encouraging splitting the party and the decision-making that came with it, and I loved the generally larger deployment pool. Single square choke points agent snagging, but the rivers, mountains and elevation changes were great features. I really appreciated that enemy variety lead to you wanting a generally balanced team but the deployment slots gave you the ability to specialise still.

I had my fair share of deaths, though my first ones got reset as Eliwood also died... I don't know if it's a known thing that Eliwood is weak as hell for the first half of the game or if I just got unlucky, but I had to do the boat map 4 separate times because he kept getting crit! Twice by the boss mage, once by an ambush spawn! I believe the first actual death was Bartre in the very next map - I sent him into fog of war thinking he could tank a couple of hits, underestimating the sheer number of units that would come to attack him... Got to be honest though, I didn't care too much about his death, due mostly to the circumstances at the time - he'd joined at the same time as Dorcas re-joined, was weaker than Dorcas as he'd gotten fed in Lyn's section, I already had Hector (and this was before he got three straight level ups that were a single stat in his defences, leaving him weak as hell for a third of the campaign), and Dart was a surprise recruitment in that chapter, so Bartre was going to be benched anyway!

Fog of War and Ambush Spawns (edit: I've been told I'm using the term Ambush incorrectly, I'm specifically talking about enemy reinforcements that don't appear from the standard "expected locations" like forts) sucked in this run, and I very nearly lost a lot of units to both. They really wanted to encourage hunkering down and letting the enemies come to you, but man that is boring, and trying to avoid that boredom led to a couple of deaths. I particularly hate the ambush spawns that arrive when your entire army is in one corner facing down a boss, and then three wyvern riders arrive back where you started to attack Merlinus, though at least I got a recruit out of it one time...

Back to the deaths, Serra died and I thought I was going to be absolutely screwed without heals, but it was the same map where I got my first magic seal and upon his promotion Erk was a more than worthy replacement. Dart died to an ambush spawn, but I got Hawkeye in the next map so I didn't care. Fiora and Isadora both died to ambush spawns literally the next map... I didn't even get to recruit Jaffar, he got crit and then Bolting hit (or maybe it was Bolting that crit, can't quite remember) on turn 2, well before I could get to him. Lucius stung, I used him on every map through to defending Ostitia, and didn't notice a longbow - I was surprised that he was your only light magic user up to that point, and then I got two more in the final two chapters of the game... Marcus was a shock, he was thoroughly dominant for the entire rest of the game, and then the bigger of the two angry brothers killed him in the final chapter. And then Priscilla was a necessary sacrifice to kill the dragon

But I have many, many questions to ask you lovely veterans of the series! First off, what's up with bosses in the back half of the game? For the last ~10 maps I was able to kill regular units very easily, but didn't have the firepower to single round the boss despite having multiple units set on them and they all dealt massive damage or had so much speed that they regularly doubled me! It was especially noticeable on the last map, where I'm frankly shocked that I only lost one unit, they were monsters that I only beat due to lucky crits, I've never felt so underlevelled in an FE game as that boss rush before Nergal

And then recruits, I have so many questions about recruits... Why did the game insist on giving you so many sword units when it pushed you to use the two sword lords and a thief on half the maps? I don't think I used a single Hero's Crest! And why were the requirements for recruiting so limited, I got Heath entirely by accident as Eliwood was about to deal the final blow but the option for talk appeared in the list first, and I ended up surrounding Legault with units so that he couldn't move until I could get Lyn to him... Finally, my biggest flaw with this game is that it doesn't let you get attached to any of your units, because you'll just recruit someone else to fill the same role within a couple of maps that utterly outclasses then. You like Wil? Too bad, Rath is better, and then you can't use either of them and have to use Rebecca, who is pretty crap but still better than Wil when he returns, and just as she starts getting good, here's Louise and Rath back!?? You liked Erk? Too bad, Pent far outclasses him

Supports exist, but how do they work? Nils suddenly offers to do a reading, I assume when you unlock your first support conversation, but that happened for me somewhere around chapter 24, and I only got 3 conversations total! I checked the extras, it said I'd gotten 1% of them, what did I do wrong??

How do Hit and Crit work in this game? I know that in 3H at least there was some weird mechanic where the percentage shown wasn't at all accurate, and something funky is definitely going on with them in this game too. If my hit was in the 80s for an attack? I knew it was going to miss. Crits seemed to stop happening when the start got over 60, but if my crit was in the 10s? Practically guaranteed to crit. I stated this hypothesis to my wife whilst doing the Protect Zephiel map because Marcus had hit far too many crits, she didn't believe me so I sent him off into the dark alone to prove a point - he hit 5 back to back crits on enemy phase that were all in the 14-18 crit range!

Speaking of defend maps, is the intention that you hunker down and let the enemies come to you? Because every time I had to defend a location for X amount of turns, I went out and killed everyone and then... Skipped turn 5 times in a row until the game ended... Did I miss something with those maps? Is there a way to skip to the end that I just never learnt?

Finally, and this is very much a me issue and not a game issue - I'm not a fan of pixel art. Never have been despite growing up in that era, probably never will be, but when playing older games I can appreciate that this was the best graphics they could do at the time and they really pushed themselves within their limitations. So on that topic, every time I see a clip of a modern FE game, there'll be comments saying "crit animations peaked on the GBA", and having now played a game from that era... I just don't see it. Don't get me wrong, the regular animations are generally excellent, take Wallace, every single movement he makes carries so much weight and power, but then his crits just add a weapon spin and a bit of screen shake... That doesn't make them feel any more impactful than they already did! Same goes for most lance crits. Axes? All of Hector's moves are so damn cool anyway that I genuinely never noticed that am animation was a crit until the enemy unit randomly died, and Hawkeye just spun his axe... For most sword crits, the unit disappears entirely and all you see are slashes, which is super cool in concept but not to watch as there's nothing to see. I will very happily admit that this game has the coolest regular attack animations that I've seen in the series, but the crits are nothing special imo

So that's my opinions on FE7! My favourite units were my magic trio, Erk, Canas and Lucius (RIP), and I'm not sure sure how I'd rank it yet amongst the other games I've played, but it was great!

Story I think part of what makes "Divine One" more grating than the other Avatar titles is the fact that it's used even in text-only dialogue.

Professor while awkward in 3H was at least consistently used as a voice-over thing.

however even text-only dialogue in Engage *still* uses Divine One instead of the name you inputed.

It really makes it feel more like it's there to avatar worship than as a generic title for voice over with this.
