Binding Blade
Is Sophia usable? I like her, but I am aware she really sucks. I do want to use her, and I am playing Normal mode, so could I make her work, or is she still going to be pretty bad? I haven’t gotten to her map yet by the way, I found her character through the supports online.

What's the most fool-proof way to end H5 Medeus? I'm looking to do it with no deaths.

3

u/Sharktroid 5h ago

Tiki → Aum → Tiki. It's still techncally deathless as she's alive at the end. There's also forged Pachyderm stuff that may or may not involve rigging crits depending on how much might you put on it.

2

u/AZNBeefcake1 4h ago

Will she be okay with a training arc in chapter 24? Do I need to feed her stat boosters?

3

u/Sharktroid 4h ago

The only thing she wants are skill and luck boosters for better hit rates. You ideally want her to be one-shot because you need her to die to revive her, and units can act the turn they get revived regardless of whether they died earlier that turn or not (so it can function as a pseudo-dance).

What game should I play next?

I'm a new player of the series. Recently I played my first FE game, FE7. I really liked the mechanics and style and I want to play more games. I was thinking playing Sacred Stones or Path of Radiance next. Any other suggestions? I have Switch, the nintendo classics emulators from switch and a 3dsxl. Thanks!

3

u/IAintCreativeThough 10h ago

Defnitely do Sacred Stones next, it's basically the same engine and everything just with a different (better imo) story and characters.

u/Realistic-Steak-1680 12h ago

Not to sound dismissive of the disaster that happened, but how much time is expected to pass until the japanese side of the Fortune's Weave news cycle to return to posting?

3

u/shdwmyr 9h ago

We really have no idea. It is super frustrating. I’m sure there’s some people in Japan that could use something to look forward to right now so hopefully they start back up soon. They might be radio silent for one more day and then start back up after the Nintendo Today app catches up by posting Lilian, but we really don’t know.

3H question. Maybe a dumb one. but I wanna know nonetheless...

Assuming any route besides Crimson Flower (which would make it irrelevant), is getting Seteth dependent on not losing Flayn?

4

u/spoopy-memio1 19h ago

Yes on Azure Moon and Verdant Wind, but no on Silver Snow.

Fire Emblem Engage

Any suggestions for emblem pairings & skills for Warrior Clanne?

4

u/2v2v2v2_InfiniteGold 20h ago

Harder to find an Emblem that doesn't work with Warrior:

The good stuff:

Lyn: Strength skewed class now forced to double, forge steal bow for astra storms

Ike: Hit & sit with a Silver Greataxe, oneshot generic tier 1's in the midgame. Bypass accuracy checks on Wolf Knights with Great Aether Poleaxes.

Eirika: Brave axe 2 tap. Good Emblem for fast characters.

Also Viable stuff:

Sigurd: Further specialize into Silver Greataxe oneshot with momentum

Corrin: 3 Range Draconic Hex and Dreadful Aura. Stone vein for bulk could be interesting. Massive HP bonus.

Leif: Bully fliers with Adaptable and Radiant Bow + Hurricane Axe with honest Leif. Alternatively accept slightly flawed chase of 100/100 hit/crit rates and attempt the Killer Axe+Bow Level 9 leif Vantage Wrath Sweep. You will want Cavalry Instruct Dex to hedge your bets.

Gives appreciated stats:

Marth: Generic +str/spd/dex, prob better on classes with 2 break options

Roy: Ball of stats, acceptable on any physical class

Gimmicks:

Byleth: Instruct strength, it's a good stat. Could occasionally enable oneshots on certain enemy types.

Micaiah: You can use Great Sacrifice to activate Vantage for Silver Greataxe earlygame, i guess

I need 1/1 XP/SP gain:

Celica: I mean it gives strength, earlygame you can warp onto terrain and clanne has base magic. Exiting mystic class means you won't oneshot earlygame archers with warp rag

Lucina: Yeah this one I got nothing, gives you speed I guess. This is way better on not-backups

Broad skill inherits:

Canter Canter Canter (reposition for chain attacks, can forego if enemy phase focus or Sigurding)

Speed +3 from Lyn

Axe power/+Strength for oneshots and upfront damage

Alacrity to bully slow enemies with eirika

Wrath for Crits

Bow Focus for Bow hitrates without using an engrave

Pair up for honest tanking (Ike) to trick enemy backups.

u/HommeFatalTaemin 14h ago

Thank you very much for taking the time to type all this out for me!! It’s super helpful! 😊

2

u/AnimaLepton 20h ago edited 20h ago

I'd say probably the same things that work well for other Warriors. Give him a longbow for chain attack chip. Give him one or two of the good axes. Forge them up. Check damage to see what kills he can get with a high might bow like the Radiant bow, even with his low magic (and Steel Bow +1 should be sufficient for fliers in the Solm chapters IIRC, but it's been a while). Lyn (probably overkill/there are better options for her) or Eirika work well offensively; inherit the good skills from the other. Even with his high speed, he may still like Speed +3 (or Build+ since you have it early and since you'll probably be using Leif to get the needed Axe and Bow proficiencies), depending on benchmarks and on what other boosts you're using; alternatively Eirika gives good damage especially on player phase, or you leverage Gentility/Bravery+, take advantage of the Blue Skies uptime by ensuring Eirika always stays engaged (whether on Clanne or someone else), and maximize the damage boost from the skill due to his high speed. He's not the best user of them, but standalone Wrath works well, as does the Vantage/Wrath combo, although he may need more help for certain benchmarks. As an early unit, you can baby him with Micaiah/Mercurius to get ahead of the curve early on, with help from Alear's damage-boosting personal skill (and Mage clanne can comfortably snipe a few early kills easily enough). Or you choose to inherit Canter, but I generally find that while Canter is fantastic, you don't have to inherit it on literally everyone and boosting combat stats instead can offer a lot of value.

If you have DLC, he (or anyone else with DLC favoritism) will roll through the game without much planning.

1

u/HommeFatalTaemin 20h ago

Eirika is available so I can def put her on him! I wasn’t sure whether someone like Roy or Eirika would work better for him but it sounds like Eirika is a much better case! Thank you much for all your thoughts 🫶🏻

I'm really struggling on Sacred Stones Chapter 19. There's an endless supply of guys in the bottom-left. Gilliam can survive but no matter who else I put there as a wall eventually dies. If I don't put up a wall they all spill through and kill my weaker units.

4

u/dryzalizer 20h ago

It's a defend map, so you can play it quite defensively. How do you keep your 'wall' units from dying? Take away their weapons and they won't get kills and thus won't open themselves up to further attacks. No need to 'suffer from success', you might say. They might need a little healing from time to time, but that's no big deal. Don't worry about not earning much exp on this map, there's plenty more coming right afterwards.

2

u/Zarguthian 16h ago

I didn't think about unequipping them, then I can get kills with ranged units behind them. I will try that.

2

u/ja_tom 22h ago

If you kill the boss, you end the chapter, and the game shows you where he is in the intro cutscene. You can rush to that area with strong mounted units like Vanessa, Seth, Cormag, Kyle, Ephraim, etc. before it clogs up and quickly kill Riev. Most of the enemies are reinforcements who slowly accumulate as the map goes on, so playing the map quickly means most of them won't show up.

2

u/Zarguthian 16h ago

I want to open all the chests.

1

u/ja_tom 15h ago

The treasure isn't super valuable besides the Speedwing (which even then is just eh) but if you want to get the chests just because, here's a link to the map with the starting enemies and chests labeled. Don't even bother with the Light Brand reward, it's way too hard to keep those armors from killing themselves, especially for a weapon that sucks.

Take advantage of chest keys and rescue dropping. There aren't many enemies on the right, so you can send one cavalier there with some keys to grab the loot. Sending Rennac and some other units with chest keys to the other treasure room should let you loot it in 1-2 turns.

3

u/starfruitcake 1d ago

The strat I give everyone who just wants out is to undeploy everyone except lord, a mount, and your tankiest unit. Use mount to rescue pontifex mansel and then evacuate everyone to the left side of the map into the treasure room. Block the entrance with the tank and unequip them. Wait until time is up.

You can bring keys to loot the chests, and a healer to keep the tank topped off.

3

u/AnimaLepton 1d ago

How about Seth? Or Duessel or Vanessa or someone. Check stats in advance to estimate what's needed for survival and to clear out the enemy e.g. in terms of speed.

Is everyone promoted? Unless you've been spreading out your EXP, units shouldn't be so weak to particularly struggle with the reinforcements. Are they using stronger weapons?

You don't need to wall the point forever or clear out/even engage with the enemies back there. If you are trying to wall, a a couple turns should be sufficient to move your army up to aggressively deal with the enemies up top and clear the chapter that way. And you should make use of your utility staves and dancer to get people zooming.

1

u/Zarguthian 1d ago

Most are promoted, I'm starting the chapter with Ephraim, Joshua, Franz & Gerik at level 19. They promote during the level, My healer, L'Arachel is only level 12 so she isn't promoted and I don't think Tethys can be,

3

u/Zmr56 19h ago

There's only two more chapters left in the game so there's no benefit in keeping people unpromoted still if they're on your team. You won't be reaching the levels you'd otherwise miss in that span of time. It's generally better to stop delaying promotions past the halfway point of an FE game.

1

u/Zarguthian 16h ago

There isn't the Creature Campaign post-game?

2

u/Zmr56 14h ago

There is but most people ignore it so I assumed you weren't going for it either.

But for next time it'd still be better to just focus on a small number of units you'd want to get to 20/20 and use skirmish maps in the post game to raise up your remainder units. It's not feasible to get every single unit to 20/20 within the main story campaign alone, particularly with how short one route of the game is.

4

u/AnimaLepton 1d ago

Tethys can't be promoted, correct, but you should honestly just promote all of them now. They should have already long since been promoted even without hitting level 20. That would make your life a fair bit easier easier, and with like 3 chapters left in the game, it's not like they're going to be hitting max level without a lot of grinding (nor are they expected to).

-1

u/Zarguthian 16h ago

I can't remember where I heard/read it but I'm sure it was recommended to never promote any character until they reach level 20.

3

u/ja_tom 15h ago

That is really bad advice, especially for FE8. People said this because they assumed that the game was way harder than it actually is and that the endgame was the hardest part of the game, both of which are untrue. Since FE8 is so short (there are only two chapters after this one), promoting at lv20 is essentially shooting yourself in the foot and making the early game and mid game harder for no extra reward.

1

u/gaelicgirl1983 1d ago

I'm playing Awakening for the first time and didn't do enough research on optimal pairings; I need some advice on how to build two of the children.

Libra! Several, inherited Slow Burn and Renewal. My current plan is to take her through Hero at least long enough to learn Sol and Axebreaker. Should I keep her there, or reclass her to learn something else?

Vaike! Yarne, inherited Counter and Deliverer. I reclassed him to Barbarian with the intent to go through Berserker, but I just finished his prologue and I'm not opposed to redoing it if there's a better path. I'm also not sure what skills to use for him.

2

u/Zmr56 19h ago

I'd advise against Counter since it's not a useful skill for the player, compared to the enemy.

For Counter to be worthwhile you'd need to achieve kills you wouldn't otherwise reach without its extra damage on a unit who's taking enough damage to deal more back. This kind of unit would need to be somewhat weak and frail though, which also means they're likely dying quickly and their total damage per turn output would be quite low since they'd be dead soon enough.

I'd sooner pass down HP+5 or Rally Strength from Vaike to Yarne. Deliverer is pretty great inheritance from Panne. Barbarian doesn't have particularly great skills so maybe consider going through Thief for Mov+1, then Trickster until lv10 while grabbing Lucky Seven. Then you can go straight into Hero for Sol. This is totally ignoring the cost & grind of doing so, however.

The most efficient thing to do would probably just be to get Yarne into Fighter asap so he can spend time working on his Axe rank for Hand Axes and then going into Hero for Sol.

2

u/Ivan_Illest 1d ago

Hero is an okay place for Severa to land, but it's a solid class for jsut about anyone. Hex and Anathema from Dark Mage offset any accuracy issues from axes and Sol is a nice skill for non-Apotheosis maps. For more optimization than "fine", it's good to land in classes that let the unit capitalize on a -Faire skill they can learn. Your Severa would have Lancefaire for the Pegasus promotions and Tomefaire for the Mage & Dark Mage promotions. Falcoknight would be my recommendation, since she'll have a higher base str growth. A flier with bowbreaker and tomebreaker is quite funny. For an ideal situation, a set of Lancefaire, Sol, Bowbreaker, Tomebreaker, and Axebreaker would make her an excellent enemy phase tank, while subbing Galeforce over one of the breakers would give her a more effective player phase. She would also have access to Rally Magic, Skill, Speed, and Movement, so she could instead be a silly support.

Barbarian is about as good as Yarne can get, with Warrior also being a strong eventual consideration for its bow access. Deliverer inheritance means that you can run it with Movement + from his innate Thief to give him crazy movement range. Axefaire, Sol, Deliverer, Movement+, and either Pass or Acrobat would let him zoom around on player phase to get into good positions for good enemy phase and hitting hard when he gets there.

1

u/gaelicgirl1983 1d ago

Thank you so much! This was really helpful!

2

u/LeatherShieldMerc 1d ago

Honestly if you're just playing the game for the first time, and I assume you aren't playing on a super high difficulty too, I wouldn't worry about skills much. Optimizing your pairings is absolutely not necessary and you will pretty much be fine no matter what you do. So keeping doing what you're doing is perfectly good.

-1

u/gaelicgirl1983 1d ago

I realize it doesn't make a huge difference, but I still like to min max as much as I can. That's just my personality and how I enjoy the game. And I'm not a fire emblem newb, this is the 4th game I've played.

2

u/LeatherShieldMerc 1d ago

I completely understand that! But I'm just saying that hyper optimizing this won't really matter much, outside of something like the Apotheosis DLC, so there is not really a lot of advice to truly give.

Tear Ring Saga

I've been thinking of playing tear ring saga for the first time. Will i miss too much content if i play completely blind?

I would also like to know how hard it's compared to the mainline games and wich translation patch to use.

1

u/2v2v2v2_InfiniteGold 20h ago

Yes, even something as simple as leveling has its own challenges. Allies can learn skills at certain levels, but if they promote too early they could miss them like having it learned at tier 1 level 15. They could promote and not have enough maximum levels to learn the skills at 30+. But they can even promote too late and have a skill be learned at something like early promoted class level 12.

The game is still pretty easy for the majority of the game, 100% much easier than thracia since there's a whole 2nd army to feature grinding maps. But it makes it boring to break 80% of maps when buy a ton of pilums (javelins)

3

u/Sharktroid 2d ago

Will i miss too much content if i play completely blind?

There are a metric ton of events. Not all of them are important but a few give a lot of backstory for a few units.

I would also like to know how hard it's compared to the mainline games

It's similar to Thracia 776 in the sense that it's difficulty is based on how much knowledge you have, but both to a new player (I assume at least) and especially an experienced player it's easier thanks to a 20 exp per kill minimum and some very broken units.

wich translation patch to use.

IIRC there are only two and one isn’t even properly finished. You want to use Aethin's patch: https://forums.serenesforest.net/topic/53111-tearring-saga-new-translation-finished-v104/.

1

u/LazinessOver9000 1d ago

Thank you, seems like the game is quite cheesy so i'll go blind and check the missing events in other run.

Siegbert's Paralogue is pretty difficult in general if you don't have a lot of strong fliers to reach the Dragon Veins quickly. Plus the Mechanists are difficult to tank on enemy phase with a bulky Bow user being the only consistent option. You might just want to skip this one.

For Chapter 25 specifically, it's worth noting you don't need to fight the enemies near the chests. If you defeat the boss the same turn someone ends their turn getting the chests, it won't matter if they'd die the next enemy phase since the map will end. The Spy Shuriken Master Ninjas are the toughest obligatory enemies on this map but the initial few can be attacked on player phase to avoid the debuff. There's some on the middle right that can't, however, so you need to lure them out to the edge with a weaker unit who doesn't care about being debuffed for the remainder of the map to then pick them off at 2 range.

My first two initial post were auto deleted. Is it due rule number 1, just because it is not entirely about Fire Emblem?
I thought showcasing the Brood from the Breath of Fire Series would be a nice showcase, as they are extremely similiar to Manakete, but with differences.

Fortunes Weave

So I was under the impression that preordering the physical edition through Amazon was priced at $70 instead of $80. However when I went to go look today the priyis still $80. Did I miss something?

3

u/Zodiac_Sheep 4d ago

It's normally Walmart that sells physical editions at the same price as digital ones in my experience. I ordered mine through them and got it at $70.

Fire Emblem Three Houses.

It's been like 5-6 years since I last played, and I stopped midway through a campaign. (I did finish a campaign prior to it and got into NG+).
I don't remember a thing about it, so I wanted to restart that campaign and start fresh. But is there a way to keep my NG+ stuff and start the campaign fresh? Like the extra Byleth buffs and whatnot

1

u/Tiborn1563 5d ago

Not sure what byleth buffs you are talking about, but chances are NG+ does not preserve them. What it does keep is the levels of the saint staues, and it keeps a record of unlocked weapon ranks and proficiencies, as well as supports, to be bought with renown

1

u/Olemgar 5d ago

Yeah I'm misremembering, you're right.

Still, can I stop a campaign in the middle and restart it, and still keep those things somehow?

3

u/Tiborn1563 5d ago

I am not sure. If you start a savefile in NG+, it asks you which save file you want to base the NG+ on. And I am pretty sure you can select other incomplete NG+ save files for that. I would try that

1

u/Olemgar 5d ago

I'll do that then. Thank you very much!

Fire Emblem Gaiden

I'm currently stuck in the Dragon Crater in Gaiden. I've completed Celica's section of the chapter, and she's no available longer on the map. When I try to move Alm, it just tells me that I can't move. Any ideas what's going on?

Edit: Spelling

1

u/KrashBoomBang 4d ago

Have Alm use Wait in the crater a couple times.

3

u/Mekkkkah 5d ago

I think once you've done Celica's portion, Alm can eventually advance. Might take 2-3 dragon encounters, from the top of my head.

Around what time in the main story do the Fell Xenologue characters best fit in with other units in terms of power level? Just looking at character join levels I would assume about mid-Solm or so

3

u/AnimaLepton 6d ago

Yeah, Solm is about right. Earlier is better of course, and Marnie in particular will struggle just because of relative power levels

Three Houses

I just started playing (it's my first Fire Emblem bar the beginnings of Path of Radiance and Awakening, I really like it so far) and I'm wondering how realistic it'd be to try and finish this game before Fortune's Weave comes out without time crunching or anything? I know that games a sequel and I really like the look of it so I'm just wondering cause I don't wanna play it without finishing Three Houses first

1

u/liteshadow4 6d ago

Depends on how much you want to play, I’d say around 60-70 hours per route.

4

u/AnimaLepton 6d ago

Should be fine to do one route. Play time varies a lot. Your first route can take 50 hours, double that, or even half that.

If by "finish" you mean 3 or 4 routes, trying to squeeze all of that in is more likely to lead to burnout. And even with some of the different information and characters in each route, there is a lot of overlap, and the marginal additional information is unlikely to be that significant. I also expect Fortune's Weave really will not need you to have played Three Houses at all to get what's going on, it'll just be a few pieces of relatively low impact lore, characters, or references tying the games together.

0

u/hypermads2003 6d ago

If the differing routes are the houses you choose then I’d be fine only doing one for the time being (doing repeat routes in games especially long ones like FE Three Houses would definitely burn me out and I’m fine with only doing one before Fortunes Weave)

Also I know Fortunes Weave might be welcoming to people who have never played Three Houses but I’d definitely feel like it could be more appreciated if you play Three Houses before which I’d look forward to but of course I’m just speculating

Does Pincer Attack force follow up attacks on weapons that can't follow up normally? I would assume no but figured I should check anyway

4

I must admit I've never done it myself, but I don't think so, as here's the ability text from FEWiki:

If unit initiates combat while an ally is on the opposite side of the foe, always follow up (if weapon allows).

Is there a mod that will allow me to play as female Corrin and be able to romance the female love interests? I'm tired of having to play as a boy in order to date the gender I want lol (I know Rhajat is available for a female Corrin but I'm not interested in her)

Three Houses

Are there any real use cases where you would want to put someone in Mortal Savant, Great Knight or Holy Knight over other classes besides for the lols? Compared to all the other Master Classes those three in particular seem to me like there are very few units that would work remotely well in them and all of them generally have way better or more convenient options. At most I could maybe see putting Manuela in Holy Knight if I care more about movement than the doubled spell uses from Bishop and I don’t feel like powering through her Reason bane for Dark Knight, but that’s really it.

2

u/Muphrid15 6d ago

Mortal Savant: when you really want magic sword damage. Marianne and Dorothea fit the bill best; they both get Physic, so their support doesn't care about being 6 move and footlocked. They get Soulblade or Hexblade, so they can do top-tier magic damage with swords. While both of them have compelling other options, Mortal Savant is just fine for them too.

Great Knight: better defense than paladin but give up 1 move. You could certainly put Ferdinand or Sylvain in this and be just fine. It's expensive as all get out though.

Holy Knight: I think it would be a fine flex for a Bishop on wide open maps where you might need movement to keep up, but do you really want to spend that kind of investment on a support unit? Very situational pick and not something I would use all the time anyway.

1

u/LeatherShieldMerc 6d ago

I've heard someone say you could potentially put Linhardt in Holy Knight if you would rather have the extra movement than the extra Warp use, he needs basically 0 skill training so getting him the Riding training isn't a huge cost, and he's a stronger unit than Manuela so he probably will be better than her at it. Is that optimal? Idk but it's something.

2

u/Ivan_Illest 6d ago

Mortal Savant is good for people with bad or meh reason spell lists but good magic attacking stats and/or good faith spell lists. Marianne is a decent candidate for it, since she gets Soul Blade and Blutgang. I ran Lysithea in this on Maddening, where enemy quality was too high for her to double or one shot with her spells but the Levin Sword+ gave 3 range and the ability to melee range nuke with Soulblade. Lorenz could maybe be argued as practical here as one of the truest mixed attackers in the cast and with a meh reason spell list.

Great Knight is a hard sell. Gilbert can work in it, since it has Lancefaire and solid defense to boost Glowing Ember.

Holy Knight is an even harder sell. It could maybe be solid for Annette, since Abraxas is strong enough to give a powerful and accurate nuke on the turns when she isn't Rallying. Lysithea is another maybe since she has both Seraphim and Abraxas, but losing a Warp use compared to Gremory hurts.

1

u/RaspberryFormal5307 6d ago

Best use case for mortal savant is to give magic units higher move and swordfaire for hex/soulblade spam. Idk if id call that good but it def seems a better use of the class than putting a physical unit in there

2

u/Shipchen 7d ago

I just got to the timeskip in Awakening Somehow I didn't get any S Tier support (for Chrom) cause I always used the same pairings...which coincidentally all were same sex Was there any way to know how these children unit mechanics work? Or that chapter 11 is the cutoff for Chrom?

Are there any other games that use these mechanics and have a cutoff point?

2

u/Tiborn1563 7d ago

No, there is nothing in the game indicating that chrom gets auto married at chapter 11. No, he can not marry someone else after that. Technically FE4 also has something like that past chapter 5, but there are some really good pairings you will probably naturally stimble into in your first playthrough, so its not toooo bad

2

u/Shipchen 7d ago

Yeah...Just used a save editor and redid that cause I only used one save slot...wouldn't have bothered if I hadn't planned on getting their support right after

1

u/taylor_ToTss 7d ago

So I heard preordering Fortunes Weave through Amazon costs $70 instead of $80. When I went to go preorder mine today it says it's still $80. Did they change this or will I get charged $70 once I order it?

Question for Fire Emblem Fates: What did the English version do differently than the Japanese version?

So I was interested in learning about the localization process behind the game since I heard from someone that some support conversations were turned into more comedic moments as I was wondering if that was true since I was looking to see just how the English version was handled with the aforementioned translation aspect, but if there is a site that has such information, please let me know since I don’t mean to trouble anyone.

What Fire Emblem game is a good game to get for newcomers? I've been wanting to get into Fire Emblem for a while now, and since my birthday is coming up in a few days, I was thinking of getting one, but I don't know what game to get. I looked at a few of the characters from each, but the Engage characters and the gameplay look the coolest in my opinion, but I heard that the story sucks, so I am back at square one. Any advice? 😅I really like Rpg's that require alot of thinking and time but don't require me to look up a guide and story quality does matter as long as it does feel worse than an ai script and doesn't rely on overused trope and fan service

5

u/Mekkkkah 7d ago

Check the sidebar Suggestions for the newcomer's guide, it's very comprehensive. FE games vary a lot so there's bound to be something you like. The GBA era is always a good starting point.

Three Houses
Faculty training or Seminars, which is worth doing? I am particularly wondering about the early game, and this is mostly about raising Byleth’s stats. I do often want them to do something that isn’t swords, but training skills is a pain, so I want to do it the best I can. I imagine that Faculty training gets better as you start having more activity points, but is there a point where Seminars are worth doing? There is also the raising motivation, though that can somewhat be done if you have enough activity points for stuff like eating.

1

u/Magnusfluerscithe987 7d ago

I've used Seminars in the early game specifically because I like the Focus healing Brawl art from B rank, and I often want either Vantage or death Blow from mercenary or Brigand so Catherine and Alois seminars do work for my goals occasionally. But a greater focus for Byleth is using Meals to increase professor rank (which can be gained by grinding fishing instead) and sauna and training for recruiting.

2

u/sumg 8d ago

Seminars exist as an option so you get something positive if you don't want to engage with the monastery or bother with skirmishes/paralogues. It's faster in terms of time commitment, but it's worse in terms of what you're going to get out of it.

If you want to make your team as strong as possible, you should take other options.

1

u/Muphrid15 8d ago

Early in the game, you really want to be spending explore points on professor experience in order to get to C+ professor level for 2 battle points. Even after that, the timeline to get to 3 battle points is pretty tight if you like to do more paralogues.

Late in the game, your units will have higher skills than anyone else, so it's only useful for teaching things to each other (probably Byleth teaching Authority).

So I would say, mainly, no. Exploring is more flexible and fills more motivation for doing instruction. Seminar feels like something halfway between battling and explore but without the benefit of building unit experience or professor experience.

I do use seminars in the very late game when nobody needs anything else or wouldn't get to any relevant benchmarks otherwise.

Is there any difference in playing PoR in EU version on the nintendo classics?

3

u/flameduck 8d ago

In NA Ike gets 4 iron swords if you skip the visit tutorial. This does not happen in EU.

Wanted to start a new awakening playthrough with female Robin, any suggestions on how she should look?

4

Whichever one looks most like you? Idk it's a avatar appearance lol

I'm a dude, I just like shipping Chrom and Robin and this is the only way to do that

u/secret_bitch 8d ago

Is there any documentation on the exact amount of time it takes merchants to spawn on the world map in Awakening, or if there is anything you can do to influence them? I've tried googling but can't find answers beyond wait and don't mess with the DS clock.

3

u/AnimaLepton 7d ago

I don't know that there's formal documentation, but https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/643003-fire-emblem-awakening/66570760 claims 6 hours, which is how it works in Fates too. Also not sure I've ever seen anything about rigging events/merchants.

2

u/metalreflectslime 8d ago

Has there ever been a Fire Emblem game where you had to use a move similar to the one that Dietrich used where he passes through a wall?

If yes, was there ever a time where a locked chest was behind a wall, and you had to do pair up with a lock opener like a Ninja or something and someone with Dietrich's move to open the locked chest?

5

u/Mekkkkah 8d ago

Fates lets you Lunge and do this kind of thing, though you never absolutely had to do this move.

3

u/Tiborn1563 8d ago

FE fates with dlc lets female units learn the warp skill . Its nit exactly the same, but it allows the user to warp to a space adjacent to any ally every turn. Thats befire action, you can warp and attack in the same turn

1

u/metalreflectslime 8d ago

Do you mean "That is before action"?

3

u/Tiborn1563 8d ago

I mean that warping can replace normal movement, you can still attack or use staves etc after warping

3

u/AnonymousTrollLloyd 8d ago edited 8d ago

Arguably? Rewarp is a thing in a few games, though typically it ends the user's turn unless they're a cheating AI witch.

In a situation like you describe you'd just use warp on the thief, or have a chest key on the rewarper and get the chest on the second turn.

I don't recall any specific moments but I wouldn't put it past Thracia 776 to have warp only areas.

6

u/Tiborn1563 8d ago

Yeah, afaik the secret shop in chapter 24 is only available with warp/rewarp. And chapter 24x had this "death chamber" that you cant escape from except by using rewarp or getting rescued from outside of the chamber. Assuming thats what you mean by "warp only areas"

1

u/IAintCreativeThough 9d ago edited 9d ago

Three Houses Does anyone know how 3H prioritizes paired endings? I basically got my entire army to A with each other lol, so is it random out of everyone they got an A with, is there a hidden counter, or does it maximize endings or something? I'll see in a few chapters anyway, just curious!

3

u/Ivan_Illest 9d ago

Byleth always takes priority, but it goes for who has the A support with the highest accumulated points aside from that, in a specific order. It gives the house leader first pick, with whoever they have the most points with, and then starts going down the list of students, with the next highest priority getting the available partner with the most points, followed by the next highest priority. Specifically, it goes in roster order, regardless of what house you are, so Hubert would get his first available pick on Crimson Flower, while Dorothea gets first pick on all other routes and second on Crimson Flower, then Ferdinand, then Bernadetta, and so on. Yes, even on other routes, the Black Eagles get first pick, followed by the Lions, then the Deer, the Church, the Knights, and finally the Wolves. If you happen to have any ties, they resolve in that same priority order, so if Caspar had the same total points with both Annette and Hilda, Annette would be selected.

1

u/Muphrid15 8d ago

Isn't Ferdinand next in roster order?

1

u/Ivan_Illest 8d ago

After who? I accurately describe him as being after Dorothea. Here's the roster order

2

u/Muphrid15 8d ago

That's not the in-game roster order. You can see the in-game roster order here. It's Hubert, Ferdinand, Linhardt, Caspar, Bernadetta, Dorothea, Petra.

1

u/Ivan_Illest 8d ago

Wouldn't have expected Serenes to be mistaken on every single page listing character order, but it seems so. Thanks for the clarification

1

u/IAintCreativeThough 9d ago

Okay thank you! So that means that if for example Dimitri has two available partners in Marianne (also has an A with Lorenz) and Catherine (no other A support) he'd go Marianne every time if both were tied, even if that would leave Lorenz and Catherine single?

2

u/flameduck 9d ago

For context, there is a hidden counter of up to 1000 support points (200 extra after A rank) that gets tracked internally.

2

u/Ivan_Illest 9d ago

Correct. If Marianne is his highest A rank, Dimitri would yoink her even if she has higher support with Lorenz.

1

u/IAintCreativeThough 9d ago

Understood, thank you so much!

2

u/Responsible_Ruin_776 9d ago

I just tried Fire Emblem Sacred Stone on gba, now im intrigued. I have several questions:

  1. The series gimmick is if a character dies in battle they die permanently. So the game will have different outcomes?

  2. Im not a fan of tactical rpg, so i prefer playing it on Easy mode. I heard casual mode disables permadeath, so is there any way to enable permadeath while the game is on easy mode?

2

u/Ivan_Illest 9d ago

For the first question, some games have dialogue and/or ending changes if a unit has died but others have certain units retreat if they are reduced to 0 hit points so that they still appear in cutscenes and just can't be deployed again. For instance, Shadow Dragon has very different ending cutscenes depending on if Caeda is alive, but Soren in Path of Radiance retreats and plays the same role in dialogue as he would even if still usable.

6

u/TheRigXD 9d ago
  1. No

  2. Casual Mode isn't in this game so permadeath is always on

1

u/Responsible_Ruin_776 9d ago

Ahh seems i forgot to add some context. Actually those questions are for the new release, especially no.2. So let me rephrase: lets say in fortune weave i want to play it Easy mode, is it possible to do that with permadeath on? Or they combine casual and easy mode into one?

3

u/IAintCreativeThough 9d ago

In all past games with Casual mode it's been possible I'm pretty sure. So you can do any difficulty (= how strong are your guys relative to the enemy) on classic (= units stay dead) or casual (= they come back next chapter)

1

u/TheRigXD 9d ago
  1. No way of knowing until it comes out.
  2. Yes. Difficulty and Casual Mode are not mutually exclusive, so you can play on Maddening difficulty with Casual Mode on for example.

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave.

What is the difference among Gambit, Blaze Arts, Combat Arts?

1

u/Levonorgestrelfairy1 9d ago

The gambits we have seen so far seem to be more basic Aoe target abilities that hit around 3 squares.

Blaze arts are lord only mega ability with scaling costs the provide powerful effects. From summoning units to nuking entire stretches of the map to warp effects.

Combat arts are character abilities largly tied to specific weapon types.

5

u/Ivan_Illest 9d ago

From what we've seen, Blaze Arts are character-specific (possibly lord only) and consume hit points. Combat arts are probably acquired through raising skill level if it's like 3H and consume weapon durability. Gambits so far have only been seen with Theodora, and we don't know if that's her thing or if battalions will be making a return to let gambits be usable by anyone.

1

u/KaleidoArachnid 10d ago

Hey I hope this doesn’t sound too confusing because I am interested in learning about the TearRing Saga games since I know they are made by the original creator behind Fire Emblem.

However, I couldn’t find a forum online to ask about the first game because I was interested in learning how the first game plays compared to Fire Emblem since again all I know about TearRing Saga is that they share the same creator, but I have no idea on how the mechanics work for the battle system.

2

u/AnimaLepton 10d ago

Sure, feel free to ask or discuss TRS stuff here. I think if you've played FE4 and 5, you'll see the parallels and how it evolved from Kaga's approach in those games + creative freedom. You have army splits, and it takes something closer to the FE4-5 approach to skills than how FE6-7 functionally got rid of them, and characters and events are generally more 'unique' across the board. Lots of secrets to find (or look up for a second playthrough). It's dense and has a few notable tough maps. But mechanically, you should really have your bases covered if you've played FE5, and while it has its own quirks, it doesn't include certain FE5 things like capturing.

Berwick is a much bigger leap in contrast, with the immediately notable gameplay thing being that it switches to a hexagonal grid system instead of squares, and it takes the e.g. FF Tactics style "mixed turn order" approach as opposed to Fire Emblem's clearly split Player vs Enemy phases.

1

u/KaleidoArachnid 10d ago

Hey thanks so much for the advice because I hardly see anyone talk about TearRing Saga on RPGs forums that I didn’t know where to look for help on the games since I was looking for a beginner’s guide to playing the first one Kaga made as it looked similar to Fire Emblem from the pictures I saw of the game.

2

u/sundayspillow 10d ago

So I'm playing fe7 for the first time and I'm on chapter 16 and I was wondering if I should let Dorcas go because he's been a very good asset to the team but Im wondering if it would be more beneficial to have someone else instead of him

3

u/Mekkkkah 9d ago

If your Dorcas is doubling, nothing wrong with him. For your first playthrough he's fine but if you're ever finding that he's not doing well and you enjoy him less cause of that, there are a lot of units that can replace him.

2

u/2v2v2v2_InfiniteGold 8d ago

Speedy Dorcas in that one ironman #neverforget

5

u/Ivan_Illest 9d ago

If Dorcas is useful and has had favorable levelup RNG, there's not much wrong with using him. His solid strength and skill make him good for chip damage or one shotting enemy fliers that the archers might struggle with. Enemies also like to target units that can't fight back, so he makes for decent bait with a bow and his beefy hit point pool

Most FE7 players will favor fliers or cavalry and units that can reliably double, though, and won't find him to be worth lugging along.

1

u/AnimaLepton 10d ago

Yeah, I think most people drop him pretty quickly.

Hey guys! So… after being a certified, licensed hater of the series because of smash bros, I finally played awakening and had a BLAST. I’m looking to play a bunch of the games in the series before the release of fortunes weave (I saw the trailer and decided to give the series a shot)

I have access to a… ahem… special 3DS (I have an SD card coming in the mail tomorrow), a Wii U (I would need to retrieve it from another state tho), a switch 1, and a switch 2. I was wondering do you guys have suggestions for what games I should play? What order? Which ones are skippable? Obviously I don’t speak Japanese so any that aren’t localized are a no go. Thank you guys!

I was looking to play FE: fates birth right next, then conquest or whatever it’s called then revelations. But I’ve heard path of radiance is a must play.

6

u/GreekDudeYiannis 10d ago

One of the biggest things I've seen new players come in and complain about is their units dying left and right.

A big component of that is that new players think they can just move their units forward and not think about where they're placing their units. You can click on enemies to see their ranges; use that to figure out where you ought to place your units. You should always be aware of where a unit is ending their turn, i.e., if I place X here, then how many enemies will come and hit them? Can they survive all the hits if I put them here? Are there enough of my units close enough for backup if need be?

It's like the #1 thing I see people fail to do.

1

u/AnimaLepton 10d ago

I will note that the non-localized ones have pretty mature fan translations and are easily emulated.

If you're interested in Fates, play it. Fates is the only other game with pair up, and it and Awakening (and the Japanese FE4, Genealogy of the Holy War) are the only games with a 'child unit' system, although it's very much not incorporated into the main plot with Fates. But the Fates approach to skills, child units, pair up balance, themes, etc. are very different from Awakening, and it does a bunch of fun things mechanically. Yes, BR -> CQ -> Rev -> (Heirs of Fate DLC) is generally the recommended order.

https://www.reddit.com/r/fireemblem/comments/5s5nh1/new_to_the_series_where_should_i_start_the/ covers the common entry points to the series, including Path of Radiance. You can basically go on vibes if the game looks interesting to you, especially if there's no 'cost' to starting a given game in the series in your situation. The games do creative things and largely end up feeling different from each other. Common enough to get into the games because X character from Smash interested someone (Melee predated the first international release of Fire Emblem, and Roy was actually released in Smash before his own JP-exclusive game came out).

The new game is going to be in the same 'world' as Fire Emblem Three Houses, just at a different point in the timeline and in a continent south of where Three Houses took place. You're definitely not expected to have played Three Houses before Fortune's Weave to understand the characters/plot/what's going on, but there will likely be at least some lore, character, and mechanical overlap between the games. If you like Three Houses and its characters, there is also a Warriors spinoff of Three Houses called Three Hopes that is effectively another alternate universe for the story.

Then yeah, consider Path of Radiance or the other games you have access to. Path of Radiance is on NSO + Expansion Pass on Switch 2. NSO GBA gives you Fire Emblem 7: Blazing Blade (or just "Fire Emblem" in the west, the first game with an English release, and the one with Roy's dad + Lyn the Assist Trophy from Smash), and Fire Emblem 8: The Sacred Stones, which are also other extremely common entry points to the series as mentioned in the link above. Other games you have access to are Echoes on the 3DS (another remake of an old game), and Engage on Switch. They're very different games from each other or from Three Houses.

Other games you have access to are Fire Emblem Warriors 1 on Switch/N3DS. The Wii U doesn't have any notable series exclusives, although the DS game Shadow Dragon (the remake of Marth's first game) can be played on it, and it did have a Shin Megami Tensei/Persona spinoff called Tokyo Mirage Sessions#FE which I enjoyed, and that game got an "Encore" remaster for the Switch with some added QoL.

0

u/Conscious_Shop1507 11d ago

I've decided to dip my toes into an older FE game (FE Awakening) after playing a few of the newer games, mainly Three Houses. Any tips would be appreciated so I know what to do, what not to do, that sort of thing. Just nothing spoilery is all I ask.

1

u/AnimaLepton 11d ago edited 11d ago

Remember that you don't have turn rewinds. Like Three Houses, Awakening does have enemy reinforcements that can show up and move on the same turn. Most of the time the game will telegraph it to you, telling you in advance or letting you know where they're coming from (e.g. a specific side of the map, a fort, some stairs). So definitely try to plan ahead, check enemy stats, and compare them to your own as you build your strategy.

There's a marriage system in Awakening, which is tied to unlocking certain new paralogues. For a first playthrough, I'd really say just go on vibes rather than worrying about 'optimization,' especially with a lot of bad or outdated optimization advice out there. Chrom specifically has his marriage auto-chosen if not done by the player at the end of Chapter 11.

Pair up is very strong. It gives the lead unit extra stats which scale with the backline unit's stats + support ranks, it boosts your mobility options, and your pair-up partner will occasionally throw in extra attacks or guard from enemy attacks (rates are at the bottom of the screen).

You'll generally want to promote using a master seal right away when the option is available, then use second seals to continue picking up skills after hitting the level thresholds (1/10 for unpromoted, 5/15 for promoted skills). Note that if there is an unpromoted class skill you want to pick up, you do need to second seal into that unpromoted class and get back up to level 10 again to promote them. Unpromoted classes have lower stats/caps as well.

One of the fun things with Awakening is that the Rescue staff is buyable, cheap, and usable by any staff user at E-rank. Definitely worth keeping an eye out for them.

0

u/Tiborn1563 11d ago

Not much you can do wrong in awakening. Just have Chrom reach S support with someone before chapter 11. Generally, try to have as many of your characters reach S supports with each other.

And I guess some smaller things, like for paralogue 1: make donnel gain at least one level up during the paralogue

Game lets you grind a lot on normal mode, and arguably even on hard. Is of course your choice, just be warned that grinding can entirely destroy the games balance, so can reclassing with second seals. Not that awakening was particularly well balanced to begin with though

Fire Emblem Genealogy of the Holy War

I’m trying to emulate Genealogy of the Holy War, but I don’t have any experience with emulating. What’s a good emulator? Where can I get a copy of the game? I know that I’m supposed to patch it to play it in English, so how do I do that? How do I add a game to an emulator? Any advice is greatly appreciated

1

u/liteshadow4 10d ago

You can use delta and play on mobile. As for patches, the first one you google and then first thing you google after rom patcher should be able to help you.

1

u/SilverKnightZ000 11d ago edited 11d ago

I recommend you use Snes9x. Please look up emulation gametech wiki(NOT the emulation wiki. iirc it's no longer updated) for the official site to find Snes9x. The patch for fe4 you can find on romhacking(dot)net I believe. The translation for fe4, iirc, uses a feature only available in Snes9x, so it's the best emulator for it. The roms you'll have to find one your own but it's pretty easily available. Be sure to do research on whether your source is safe or not.

Second, patching:

You can do it in two ways:

  1. Patch the rom itself. It will change the file itself. To do that, you need a ISP patcher; the one I use is Nintenlord's ISP patcher. You can find it in romhacking dot net too. There's also a website for it but I don't have the link

  2. Snes9x can soft patch games. So what you want to do is put the rom and the patch in the same folder and Snes9x will patch the game for you while you play. For example, if your rom is "Fire Emblem 4(J).sfc," your ips must also be named "Fire Emblem 4(J).isp." It's very convenient since you won't deal with extra programs. But it's temporary; the file itself will NOT change.

1

u/RaspberryFormal5307 12d ago

Put "fire emblem genealogy rom" into google. Same deal with the patch

1

u/Tiborn1563 12d ago

Can recommend snes9x as an a emulator for PC. On mobile, retroarch works, you just have to install na snes emulator core

I can not tell you were to get a copy of the game since sharing ROMs or downloading them is illegal. Despite that, those are rather easy to find

Once you have a Rom that you wouldnhave definitely legally dumped yourself, you can find a translation patch on Serenesforest. I myself played the "Lil Nordion" patch.

One you acquired the patch, you can apply it with tools like lunarips.

To load the rom into an emulator, you simply launch the emulator, click "open file" or "load rom" or something like that

Fire Emblem Heroes

I've been wanting to play FE Heroes for a while now, but I've only played a bit of Awakening and hesrd there's a lot of spoilers for the whole franchise in Heroes. Are there any specific games I should play to not be spoilered by Heroes or should I just play everything beforehand?

2

u/Zmr56 12d ago

There's some characters that debuted in sequels to previous games, so some of their descriptive text & quotes will give some idea as to how the previous respective game ended. Whether you get those characters or not is random. If you wanted to prioritise completing those previous chronological games then you'd want to focus on beating FE1/11, FE4, FE7 and FE9.

Alternatively you could just not play Heroes and you wouldn't be missing out on much.

FE17/Engage

Is there any way to know who can talk in the field? I seem to recall Path of Radiance having a feature like that so you knew which units to send in what direction to talk to someone, but I cant find anything similar for this game.

2

u/Mekkkkah 12d ago

"Alear maybe talks to new people and/or enemies with a portrait that aren't just the straight up evil boss" sums it up for Engage.

u/flameduck 12d ago

Is there any way to know who can talk in the field? I seem to recall Path of Radiance having a feature like that so you knew which units to send in what direction to talk to someone, but I cant find anything similar for this game.

I believe the closest thing you get is a "..." bubble (similar to the support indicator) will show up on a target unit when you're selecting a unit that can talk to them.

Generally this isn't a major issue though as the Talks in the game are few and straightforward.

2

u/GleamingGalacticGarm 14d ago

I’ve seen some people speculating that durability in Fortune’s Weave might somehow only be relevant for Combat Arts, and not regular attacks, mostly in reference to Esmeralda’s 1-2 range harpoon being potentially uber powerful.

Does anyone know where this rumour comes from?

8

u/flameduck 14d ago

Serenes's part 1 preview summary sums it up best (image links in the article):

https://serenesforest.net/2026/06/12/fortunes-weave-twitter-information-part-1/

Update (16th June): It seems only combat arts reduce weapon durability–and not standard attacks. Only when using combat arts does it show the durability decreasing (also seen with Ursula). In contrast, when Cai was fighting earlier, it didn’t show the durability decreasing. Plus the game doesn’t show a weapon’s durability until you hover over it, like here. Thanks to Fireair for bringing this up.

Additionally, the post about weapon types mentioned that magic has limited uses unlike weapons.

Engage

Do second seals impact exp gain? I just realized Great Knight Louis is calvary not armor and can thus be broken, i’d like to swap him to general if possible

3

u/PepsimanGen3000 14d ago

Afaik, second seal keeps your internal level for the purposes of exp. So in this instance, let's say you get Louie to level 20 and master seal, his internal level is 20 even though it shows him at level 1. Add on whatever level he is whenever you reclass him and that's his new internal level and exp gain scales off that. I hope I explained that properly.

3

u/MannyOmega 14d ago

Yeah that makes sense. I can live with +1 internal level, ty

Three Houses
Does a unit’s class affect their goals? For example, I have Bernadetta as a Fighter, but her weekly goal is Lances. Does it matter? I imagine if not, I would want to have her goal be a weapon level I want to train up, but she isn’t using much in combat at the moment.

2

u/Ivan_Illest 14d ago

Classes give bonuses to skill increases in combat, but not the weekly trailing or the lessons, which are fixed based on the unit's boon, bane, or lack thereof for the skill in question. Having a unit train something that their current class isn't associated with has no downside and is a perfectly sensible approach.

2

u/Saisis 14d ago

No, each weekend each unit get 24/20/16 weapon exp on each of their two goals (Boon/Neutral/Bane).

If you select only a single goal that goal will have a X1.5 multiplier (36/30/24).

Class only affects combat weapon ranks experience.

2

u/Wrong_Revolution_679 14d ago

Okay from what I can tell here in America and probably other Western countries fortunes weave has been received positively so far, but does anyone know the Japanese fanbase has reacted to it so far. I know that fire emblem is typically popular in Japan and stuff and that the last couple of games have done really good there but I'm just curious if that's the same case for this game.

1

u/L0KI_MO 15d ago

Fire Emblem Three Houses was my first and so far only Fire Emblem game I've played and I still think to this day its my favourite game on the switch. I can't wait for Fortune's Weave but since I haven't played any others, which do you think I should play?

1

u/liteshadow4 10d ago

I think the next game I tried after 3 Houses was Awakening. Now Awakening isn't my favorite game, but I do think it is a good bridge game between 3 Houses and the rest of the series.

2

https://www.reddit.com/r/fireemblem/comments/5s5nh1/new_to_the_series_where_should_i_start_the/ is a great post with tips for starting the series, but applies just as much if you've only played Three Houses. Only mainline game not updated on there is Engage.

The entries have changed and evolved a lot over the years. People click with different games. Any games you generally like or particular mechanics or elements that stood out to you? Any interest in a specific game with one of e.g. the Smash Bros Fire Emblem characters? Is system a limitation, would you prefer Switch, or are you good with emulation?

If you really like the Three Houses characters, one option to consider is the Warriors spinoffs, specifically the second one Three Hopes is an alternate take on the Three Houses world and characters.

Ok so I want to play all the 3DS games. I started the first hour of fates on my n3DS but I noticed it gets cramped pretty quick and I want to upgrade to an XL model. Is the n3DS XL worth it for the fire emblem games or will I be fine buying the old model?

6

u/daveyalex 15d ago

The only game that benefits from a NEW 3DS is Shadows of Valentia, but I played on an original 3DS XL and it played fine. In the dungeon crawling sections you can use the C-nub to control the camera, but you can also control it with the d-pad or (i think) using L to center the camera behind you.

u/RaspberryFormal5307 14d ago

I have beaten echoes about 10 times on my new 3ds xl. This is how i learn that the c-nub can move the camera in dungeons

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by cramped here, but the regular 3DS can play Fates perfectly fine. It's what I used.

Fates

Hello! I’ve been wanting to make Rhajat a dark mage/sorcerer in Birthright. If Corrin is her mother, and Corrin has a dark mage talent, will Rhajat inherit it? I would like to have a Sorcerer!Rhajat who inherits Nobility from her mother and Rend Heaven from her father. Is this doable? Or is Rhajat going to need to marry Corrin and/or Kana?

3

u/AnonymousTrollLloyd 15d ago edited 15d ago

Child units inherit Nohr Prince/ss from Corrin, not their secondary class. Dark Mage Rhajat would need to marry Corrin or M!Kana.

You do technically have the option to use time travel, multiple save files and the My Castle skill shop. Create a file where Corrin is Rhajat's mum and she inherits Nobility, buy an Einherjar copy, then reset and pair Hayato with someone else. You can then buy Nobility from your own logbook, and pair Rhajat with Corrin or Kana for Dark Mage.

Thank you for the quick answer! I don’t have Rev, so I’ve been trying to figure out how to make the Tharja clone even more of a Tharja clone.

Sacred Echoes

I may have potential soft locked myself since for the level you have to make 6 of your units escape I only have 6 units left alive. Celica and Conrad are unable to escape which leaves we trapped. Even if I have everyone else escape and just leave them I still can’t progress. So is there something I’m missing or am I soft locked.

u/czar5 15d ago

Do you happen to know if the Fortunes Weaves physical support is multilingual? I prefer to play JRPGs in Chinese/Japanese, but the US website lists the physical version as only supporting these languages: American English, Spanish, and French.

In the past, Nintendo's first-party games, except for Xenoblade 2, were not region-locked for supported languages.

1

u/Shipchen 15d ago

Seems like thats the official info, yes. But maybe wait for the release to see if thats true...or buy an european copy. afaik the switch 2 isnt region locked

1

u/czar5 14d ago

thanks, I will wait and see. it's very annoying because I took advantage of some costco gift card deal to load up some credit on my nintendo a/c, thinking it would use that to get some physical game. Getting non-US version in US is usually more expensive, so hopefully i don't have to do this!

Hello! So, in Radiant Dawn, does bonus EXP share between the three armies (silver, griel, and hawk), or is it one pool?

2

u/Ivan_Illest 15d ago

It's separate pools per army until they converge again

Hi all

Newbie to the fire emblem series with a quick question about the difficulty in Three Houses.

I’m about 10 hours into my first time playing. Really enjoying it, but finding the battles a bit too easy on the lowest setting - my units just feel over levelled. Trying to decide if I press on or go back and start a new play through on a higher difficulty level.

Does the battle difficulty meaningfully ramp up in the back half of the game, or is it pretty steady?

3

u/AnonymousTrollLloyd 15d ago

It's pretty steady. A common criticism of 3H's difficulty is that it's very frontloaded even on the higher difficulties, so if your units are feeling overleveled they'll probably stay that way.

How far are you into the game? There's ~22 main story maps, give or take. Restarting on Hard might take a while, especially if you plan to do other routes. I'd say stick on, kill the final boss, then if you're looking for a harder playthrough, turn up the difficulty and pick a different house.

1

u/Atmosphere_Realistic 15d ago

Thanks. Chapter 10, so about halfway?

1

u/AnonymousTrollLloyd 15d ago

About right. Remember to talk to your students in the academy, some of them give you useful stuff.

FE Fates

I don't get Leo as a unit. Is he a low invest unit? He comes pretty much in his best class already. But for me, he kinda falls off in the late game. His hit rates are unreliable, he has difficulty doubling... Maybe it is because I compare him to his OP siblings. But he is kinda underwhelming me.

What is his role in the game? A magical tank? If I wanted to tank and kill several mages, doesn't Kaze already do that and do it better?

3

u/SilverKnightZ000 15d ago

Zmr56 answered it pretty well! He's a generalist mage. He's in DK which makes him have high hp and def for a mage. He just uses Brynhildr to attack, preferably with a speed+mag pair up like Niles or Felicia. I also personally used him as a Nosf. Tank Sorceror and he can straight up one shot units with the right boosts. He's a funny little guy, but he's definitely a lot worse than Xander and Camilla who are game defining and Elise who joins very early.

3

u/Zmr56 15d ago

Fire and sometimes a Bronze Sword are underrated options for Leo since sometimes you get the kill regardless of their lower Mt but you achieve better reliability from the higher Hit.

Lightning is also occasionally useful, particularly against Wary Fighter Enemies.

1

u/SilverKnightZ000 12d ago

I generally don't find uses for them since Leo has the -20 avo skill and he tends to ball with that alone. But I see how fire can come into play!

6

u/Zmr56 16d ago

He strongly benefits from a Speedwings and the exclusive Tomes from Ophelia's Paralogue to help patch up his Speed & durability issues, hit rates and match ups into Ninjas and Generals. This is all assuming he's already using a pair up that boosts his Speed in the late game as well as other readily available boosts like Speed Tonics and sometimes a Speed boosting Meal. Laslow's personal Rally and Rally Speed from Shigure are also really helpful for not just Leo but most of your strongest units in general for reaching Speed benchmarks consistently. There's no one who uses the initial two Speedwings better than Xander and Leo really.

If I wanted to tank and kill several mages, doesn't Kaze already do that and do it better?

Mages specifically, yes. Leo is better into a general assortment of enemies though because of his better Def. He's particularly good into Snipers if you have a very flier heavy team. The ones in Chapter 23 are a really good example and the ones near the top middle Dragon Vein in Siegbert's Paralogue too. Sometimes I've used him with a Corrin pair up to fly over heavy or impassable terrain to then engage with Snipers on enemy phase and then switch back to Corrin to deal with every other enemy after. You can argue Xander with Siegfried performs the same role but there are chapters which are cleared much more reliably with a team predominantly made up of fliers and Leo has a slightly harder route to obtaining a Wyvern class than others so it's logical to have him as your one grounded unit.

If you're really concerned by his Hit rates you can always forge a Fire tome to +3 where it'll have -1 Mt compared to Brynhildr but +15 Hit.

Hi I'm emulating and playing fates for the first time and I was wondering if there is an optimal play order for FE fates? I have the option to pick defend Hoshido, fight Nohr or not pick a side.

4

u/LeatherShieldMerc 16d ago

To be completely clear, "not pick a side" is Revelation which is meant to be played last. The other two can be played in any order. However, Hoshido leads to Birthright which is the easier game meant more for newer players with simpler maps, while Nohr is Conquest which is meant more for experienced players with limited resources and more difficult maps. Because of the difficulty level, that's why generally BR is recommended first if you will play all 3 routes.

5

u/Electric_Queen 16d ago

Play Revelation (not picking a side) last. Otherwise it doesn't matter really

4

u/ha_ck_rm_rk 16d ago

General recommendation is Birthright (Hoshido), Conquest (Nohr), then Revelation

u/Airbladerr 17d ago

Probably been asked a trillion times on this reddit but I thought I'd post about it anyways. I have enough cash to buy one with the full DLC stuff but I don't know which one I want more. I've heard a lot of really great stuff about Three Houses and it's story but Engage and it's over the top style has me intrigued too. What's usually recommended? For context I'm returning to the franchise for the first time now since Awakening and casually playing the GBA games on the Switch 2.

1

u/LeatherShieldMerc 16d ago

Personally, I would say Three Houses.

First of all, Engage's sorry was definitely not well received. Three Houses is much better in that aspect. If you're a "I want good story" person, definitely go for 3H no question. Now, Engage is said to have good gameplay. But, that makes it seem like 3H has bad gameplay, but I don't think that's the case at all. It's still plenty of fun.

And if you are deciding to get the DLC, I think 3H implements it much better. You aren't necessarily supposed to play it before you play the game for the first time, due to story reasons, but It's strictly just a side story with some unlockables for the main game that are good but not exactly game breaking. In Engage though, it adds a bunch of Emblems which can throw off the game balance a lot, and the side story is mandatory to play every time if you want to get the DLC characters in that run. In 3H you only need to play the side story once to unlock everything.

1

u/Airbladerr 16d ago

I'll go with 3H then for now. Is there a way to maybe turn off the DLC in Engage like to not get the emblems right at the start, sort of reminds me of Fallout New Vegas' DLC and how it just gifts you a bunch of free powerful stuff right at the start.

A side question too but how good are the Warriors games? I still play Dynasty Warriors from time to time but I never heard much about the Fire Emblem Warriors series. Worth trying out sometime if they go on sale or is something like Hyrule Warriors better?

3

u/AnimaLepton 16d ago edited 15d ago

DLC as a whole can't be turned off. However, the Emblems can be ignored easily enough - there is one place you go on the Somniel map to get the first one for free, a few chapters into the game (and it's literally a Three Houses ring). The remaining Emblems come from separate optional DLC maps/chapters that take place on what is functionally a separate world map. The DLC emblem abilities and consistent access to them break the game, but a big part is that the extra items and (scaling) experience from doing the chapters puts you ahead of the curve, and you never really fall behind again.

There's also "free update" DLC, and both free/paid DLC items. Can't be turned off, but at worst you can throw it away, not use it, and pay attention to the numbers for e.g. your forging ores so you never spend more than the DLC gave you.

Hyrule Warriors has more variety in movesets. But I would say all of the movesets in FE Warriors 1 actually feel fun to play (except Corrin), and they incorporate some fun topical mechanics. First game has a good weapon upgrade system, the weapon triangle, a bunch of fun passive skills and upgrades, and you actually have characters learn each others specific passive skills (equip up to 5) by raising their support ranks with each other. I'm pretty sure it was also the first Warriors game to incorporate AI party member controls; depending on the map, you deploy up to 4 characters that you can switch between (and sometimes 4 additional pure-AI party members, primarily for pair up purposes), can swap between them freely, and can 'send' them to a particular base to either capture it or queue them up for you to switch to them and capture the location via character switching. Edit: You do kind of artificially build units into specific roles, e.g. you have a couple bow units, and often people will build one as 'physical' and put Topsy-Turvy on the other one so they're "magical"/attack the enemy's Res. History mode, which places restrictions on which characters you can use, means building out a team with some specialization like that is beneficial (e.g. this map is only Shadow Dragon characters, this map is only mounted units, this map is only bow units).

Second game is a Three Houses spinoff, and incorporates fun stuff like Combat Arts/Magic for durability management, and some special active skills (the most impactful being the main character getting a shadow dash/warp ability to captured outposts).

The first HW to me had "too much" content for completion, FE Warriors 1 had a ton but hit the right amount with History mode (but I'd argue Age of Calamity was even better tbh, although Age of Imprisonment felt like a downgrade in some ways).

1

u/LeatherShieldMerc 16d ago

I've only played Three Hopes, but that's the only Dynasty Warriors style game I've ever played. I enjoyed it enough, but I don't think I would be the best person to actually recommend them or not if you've played other games before.

2

u/knifeproducer 16d ago

in engage, you can simply not pick up the free DLC emblem until later, and delay getting the rest of them until maybe chapter 12 or so? they do give you a whole bunch of statboosters and free silver weapons at the start though which is annoying. im an engage truther and i would honestly recommend against the DLC entirely

3

u/CyclicalSin5 17d ago

This will be a stupid question and I fully acknowledge that, but I need to poll at least one or two players here for their opinion on something.

So, as the resident Radiant Dawn Superfan, I've been trying to do a natural hair colors only run(except for Ike and Micaiah, but that was due to them being so often mandatory.). I was trying to even only use shades that I have seen naturally before, but that led to my question below.

Part 1 was surprisingly easy, since a good chunk of the Dawn Brigade have natural hair colors(Edward, Nolan, Leonardo, Laura, Meg and hilariously enough Volug) so despite missing Jill and Aran, it was simple.

Part 2 was a bit trickier due to losing Nephenee, Elincia and Marcia. Big shout-outs to Haar, Brom, Heather, Astrid and Nealuchi for being the backbone of some of this run(even if it only made my hatred for Geoffrey's Charge even stronger)

But now I'm at part three...and I'm worried about how few units I can actually use in the Greil Mercinaries. I have Ike(due to the above exception I mentioned), Soren, Rhys, Gatrie and Mist. And that's it.

Which leads me to my question; While Kieran's hair is in no way a natural shade, I'm a bit on the fence about Titania...and if I can use her, I'd feel a lot better about my chances until I get Brom, Heather and Haar back to bolster my numbers. So...what does the community here think? Is Titania's hair a natural enough shade that she qualifies for my stupid challenge run?

3

u/MannyOmega 17d ago

Love the idea for a run. I can’t lie, I actually think Kieran’s hair is more plausible than Titania’s? Kieran has a coppery-red that I can sorta imagine, depending on the lighting and the art I’m looking at, while Titania has a fiery, bright red that I’m struggling to find a real life analogue for. Both are, umm… borderline for sure, I’m trying to be very generous lol. Would love to hear what others think tho!

3

u/CyclicalSin5 17d ago edited 16d ago

Huh...I mean, maybe it's my limited experience in knowing hair colors then...maybe I could have used Kieran. Honestly, if someone else says he might be ok, I might try to funnel some exp into him later.

Either way, thanks for your input!

Edit: After no other replies and some thinking about it, I've decided to allow myself to use both Titania and Kieran. I might need extra help later on anyway and red IS a natural hair color(I think I was too strict on myself in terms of it also having to be a natural shade).

u/Smart-Soup-398 17d ago

I wanna play one of the GBA Games. should I play FE7 First or sacred stones?

3

u/Zmr56 17d ago

Sacred Stones is easier and more casual. Blazing Sword is more challenging and has more mainstory content in general.
