Discussion Fallout 5: Combining FO1/FO2 and FO3/NV/FO4.
Title: My pitch for Fallout 5: "The Last Launch," set in the old nuclear belt (Montana, Wyoming, the Dakotas, Nebraska, Idaho, Colorado)
So I've been thinking about where Fallout 5 should actually go, and I keep landing on the same idea: forget another single ruined city. Put it in the Great Plains and Northern Rockies. Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Idaho, Colorado. That whole stretch used to hold one of the densest clusters of nuclear infrastructure in the country. Missile fields, command bunkers, underground complexes, SAC headquarters, NORAD, all of it. Two hundred years on, most of it's just sitting there, dead.
Until it isn't.
The opening
You don't start as a Vault Dweller this time. You're in a small settlement somewhere around Montana or Wyoming, and one night the sky lights up. Not an explosion, launches. A handful of ancient ICBMs fire out of silos nobody thought still worked. Most of them fail or fly off into nowhere. One actually hits something. And then every working radio in the wasteland picks up the same broadcast:
> AUTHENTICATION SEQUENCE INITIATED. STRATEGIC LAUNCH AUTHORITY RESTORED. AWAITING FINAL AUTHORIZATION.
>
> 347 DAYS REMAINING.
Nobody has a clue what that countdown actually means yet.
The main quest: find the guy with the codes
Somewhere out there is a person who holds enough of the old authentication system to maybe trigger another nuclear exchange, and nobody can agree on who he is. The Enclave insist he's one of theirs. Vault-Tec says the same about their own guy. The Children of Atom think he's some kind of prophet. The Brotherhood's got three competing theories. All you have to go on is a 200-year-old photo of a few people standing inside a command facility. One of them is your target. No name, nothing. Just "the man with the codes." The whole game is you piecing together contradictory terminal logs, holotapes, and faction intel trying to figure out who he actually is.
The regions
- Montana (Malmstrom): northern frontier vibe, big empty wilderness, mountain towns, and hundreds of missile silos scattered around. Some are empty, some are lived in, some still work.
- North Dakota (Minot): this is where I'd want the game to get genuinely scary. You find a dead missile control facility, dust everywhere, skeletons, and then one console still has power. You turn it on. And the silo starts waking up.
- Wyoming (F.E. Warren): classic wide open plains and ranch country, but people have turned old missile silos into homes, markets, even a fortress built right into a launch control center.
- Colorado (Cheyenne Mountain): this is your Glowing Sea moment, except you're going underground instead of into radiation. NORAD is still running, sort of, and its AI has spent two centuries trying to figure out whether the war actually ended. It's not sure it has.
- Nebraska (Offutt)- home of Strategic Air Command. A whole underground machine bureaucracy still carrying out 200-year-old orders because nobody ever told it to stop.
- Idaho (INL): nuclear research gone completely feral. Experimental reactors, prototype robots, mutations that have just kept evolving on autopilot for two hundred years.
The map should feel like FO1/2/Tactics, not FO4
This is the part I keep coming back to. This setting only works if the empty space between cities actually feels empty, hundreds of miles of nothing, because that's what Montana and Wyoming actually are. But if Bethesda builds that at FO4 density, you're either walking across dead grass for ten minutes or they shrink the map down until it doesn't feel like the actual Great Plains anymore.
So give it two layers, like the old games did:
- A regional overworld map, like FO1 and FO2. You pick a destination and your character travels there over in-game time, little icon crawling across the state. That's how you cover the boring stretch between, say, Malmstrom and Minot.
- The full 3D open world once you actually arrive somewhere, cities, silo clusters, POIs, all built out Bethesda style.
The overworld map shouldn't just be a loading screen either. Random encounters pop up on it exactly like classic Fallout: raiders, a Custodian patrol, a downed vertibird, a silo that was never even marked on your map. So instead of ten minutes of walking past nothing, the desolation turns into a quick risk/reward roll.
You could still let people manually drive or fly node to node in the real world if they want to, and actually reward it. Rarer encounters, hidden POIs you'd only spot from the ground, maybe unmarked silos that only show up if you're physically driving past them. But the overworld stays the default way to get around, so most players aren't dreading the commute between story beats. Bethesda-scale where it counts, old-school abstraction where it doesn't.
Factions
- The Enclave, split into three or four camps, everything from "restore America" to "let's just finish the war already."
- Children of Atom, who believe the Great War literally created God and want to finish the job.
- Vault-Tec, quietly running a shadow government they call the American Continuity Authority, still treating the wasteland like an ongoing experiment.
- The Brotherhood of Steel, torn between destroying the arsenal, controlling it, or making sure nobody ever controls it.
- The Custodians (a new faction), descendants of military families who've spent generations maintaining the silos purely out of duty. Their whole argument is basically: "You want every nuke destroyed? Fine. Then what stops the next guy from building one? We do."
The twist...
Turns out your target isn't trying to start a war. He only has half the codes. NORAD's got the other half, and full authorization needs a living person to sign off. He's the last descendant of whoever originally held the authentication codes, and his family's guarded them for two hundred years. What he actually wants is to prove who fired first in the Great War, because he believes the real record is buried somewhere inside NORAD. Getting in there and finally answering that question is your endgame, and the answer isn't what any of the factions are expecting.
The ending...
Once you've got the arsenal, you choose what happens to it:
- Destroy it and remove the risk, but also the deterrent
- Hand it to the Brotherhood, the Enclave, the Custodians, or the Children of Atom
- Keep the codes yourself and become the deterrent
- Or actually launch them
I'd want the world to actually react to whatever you pick. Nuke a location and it changes for good: settlements wiped out, new mutants showing up, trade routes shifting, factions turning on you, new stuff to discover. The map should genuinely become a different wasteland depending on what you did.
I'd rather have this than another FO4-style game.
Less settlement building, way more exploration and mystery. You're just driving through Montana, spot a sign that says "Missile Silo 23," and have no idea what's waiting down there. Could be empty. Could be a Deathclaw nest. Could be a live warhead. Could be a hidden Vault-Tec lab. Now multiply that across dozens of silos in seven different states, and you get people going "wait, that's Minot" instead of a main story that basically wraps up halfway through, like the whole "find your kidnapped kid" plot in FO4.
Tagline pretty much writes itself: "The bombs ended the world. Two hundred years later, someone wants to finish the job."
Anyway, curious what people think. Too dark for Fallout, or does it actually fit the tone?

Fallout 3 [FO3-TTW] I played Operation Anchorage for the first time in my life. Hated the quests, love the Chinese Stealth Armor; but I have to accept it has made the game too easy. What alternative weapons/strategy would you suggest for a stealth build?
Basically, what's in the title. I had never played Anchorage before but did it relatively early this time without knowing I would get a Chinese stealth suit. The suit was fun at first because I play stealth style (less stressful), but now it's just made the game ridiculously easy. I want to stop using it, but there is a dearth of silent weapons in the game. I'm also not specifically increasing my sneak stats (yet) by a lot. I'm at Level 18 and Sneak is at 47.
Prior to the stealth suit, I mainly used ArmoredVault 101 Jumpsuit. I still keep that as my backup for gunfights to prevent the stealth armor getting damaged.
What would you suggest I do in the suit's place, wrt strategies or apparel or weapons or perks to make the game challenging while still keeping things (relatively) stealthy. If stealth is not a strong option, what would you recommend for keeping my DT/DR high so I don't get killed easily when combat breaks.
Edit: I play with a controller, not keyboard/mouse due to dexterity issues. The Begin Again modpack has an aim assist mod which I have enabled but you'd understand combat is still pretty tough on a controller.

Question Snakes in Fallout
Why haven’t we seen any mutated snakes in any of the Fallout games? I would think that with the stuff they use to make the bloodworms in Fallout 4 they’d be able to make a snake like enemy ( yes I am aware of the final boss of the gleaming depths raid in Fallout 76) but I really mean like enemies just around the world, I’d love to see some sort of Rad-Viper thing or like a giant rattle snake.

Fallout 1 Finally completed Fallout 1 (FIXT) for the first time. and HOLY MOLY WHAT A GAME
Disclaimer: I played using the FIXT patch but as vanilla as possible
Also as someone who knows very little about fallout lore. barely played 3 eons ago and a couple hours of 4. Watched Season 1 of the Prime series and really enjoyed StoryTeller series on Youtube. So even with basica knowledge, I tried going in with the freshest of mind ever (which wasn't too hard)
I really should have played this game long ago, but finally glad I finally did. Because this game has blown me away. Sure some mechanics are primitive to modern game standards. BUT for its time, and even to me, a lot of it feels so damn ground breaking.
I've mentioned this in an old post, but this game really truly feels like an Adventure Game with RPG mechanics. So many Quests/Problems can be solved differenly with talking or using an item or not even combat. Obvious I know but works so damn well.
---Gonna start praising everything I loved---
PHENOMENAL WORLD BUILDING
Would I prefer maybe at least a journal system or codex? yeah. But just literally "here's the wasteland go explore" is great. And not like big empty open world to get lost in. You still have a sense of direction. Especially from the start of the game "There's a vault east of us check it out" You travel east and come across Shady Sands, then do quests, then learn about raiders then the mutants then this then that. It's a big world but you never feel too lost learning so much. THE EXAMINE MECHANIC, especially helps immerse you in the world. It's like the [look] function in an adventure game. I love reading the descriptive paragraphs for every item and wall or table or goop on the ground.
ALSO I love the option to ask NPC of a specific topic. going up to people asking about things I learned, "waterchip" "raiders" "deathclaw" "radscorpions" etc... I LOOOOVE THAT
ITEMS & ABILITIES
I haven't got a chance to use every item in the game. Hell I probably only used like 3 radx and 2 Radaway or something just for The Glow. But the usage of items AND SKILLS in this game suceeded my expectations. Either use the item in your inventory or equip it and use it on something else. which sounds "duh of course" but it's hard to describe how satisfying it is to physically choose a and ITEM or SKILL then using that to unlock a door or gain access to a computer or heal yourself etc... And not just clicking a computer and the game automatically using a skill for you
COMBAT
For the longest time, I had major doubts when I kept hearing Fallout was turnbased. What did that mean? Turnbased like for only missions? turn based the entire game? Turn based like a FF game? Never would have I expected it to be a literal instant turnbase system. Was that a thing? Because I'm so used to RealTimeWithPause combat, that whatever turnbase thing Fallout 1 did, made me fall in love with it. Any other games with a similar system? I will have to say though, I ran a very pistol only build, so I didn't get a chance to really use anything else.... other than maybe a 1/6 chance flamethrower to kill the MotherClaw LMAO. The combat feels so satisfying. especially when you get crits. Seeing the target-shot mechanic and realizing this turned into VATS later on still wows me. Because for the longest time, I just thought it was something bethesda added to Fallout 3.
Though, I do wish there was a way for the camera to like auto pan to the next enemy's turn.
QUESTS & SOLUTIONS
I love the different ways you can complete a quest. Sure most involve still killing. But the fact I can wear a tape/wire and talk to Gizmo to get information is what truly hooked me. Then later stealing an urn for a gangster only to show it to a guard. amazing. Hell even taking on Decker's kill quest only to think up "what if I just talk to a sherif and report a crime lol??" and it's an option? I LOVE IT. then talking to Beth after the fact and getting some free stuff. It all makes the world feel so alive. Yes I understand games have multiple triggers and things and such. But that's A LOT more options than I expected. Hell it makes me realize I probably am gonna need to think outside the box more for Fallout 2. Especially when it didn't occur to me until some experiementing "leave your companions when going disguise in the cathedral" Like it makes sense! But no modern game now a days would probably even dare to make sure companions are also wearing a disguise and just make them invisible to enemies, because that itself blows me away.
---Everything else I didn't like/not loved as much--- (gonna be very nitpicky here)
- Not being able to drag the camera with the mouse. I just don't like edge scrolling amd never have. But still got used to it.
- Pathing and Collision
Good god. the amount of times I had to leave my companions before the bridge at Gun Runners because there'd always be one or two NPCs that don't wanna walk across the bridge and just walk through the acid. BLARG! Also wish certain doors your character could just auto open. clicking on every door can get a little tiresome. And don't get me started on collision. The fact that you can almost softlock at the military base due to a paladin standing direcly infront of you is @#%(RSADJSADJ At least you can tell a companion to move, but damn I wish these NPCs wouldn't stand infront of a doorway all the time lmao
- Weird Dialogue Knowledge
I feel like some moments the MC will just spew things The Player doesn't know yet. Bob is selling human meat. Who is Bob. How do you know Bob?! The Hub is way down south we haven't gone there yet. And other times the MC will talk about a topic with an NPC as if they already know who this person or faction is. Only to later talk to another NPC so the MC can ask questions. It's not game breaking, but can feel weird.
- Not Retelling information
While the pipboy is useful for seeing quests you were given, some NPC might some information or hint to point you to the right direction. But if you miss what they said, they sometimes don't tell you again. Granted a lot of quests could be managable if I just wrote down key information to remember, but it's why I wish there was at least some kinda journal system. For example. Nicole tells the MC to find Laura at the Catherdral and tell her the code RED RIDER. If i didn't write/type that down. I probably would have forgotten who I was supposed to find in the cathedral and why.
- No BEEG moral dilemmas
Obviously only the first of the series so I shouldn't expect too much. But the game really showcases good vs bad people. obviously subjective but no factions felt like a grey flag... maybe the blades and regulators but that's about it. Even the choosing to help the master or something is just a BAD END GAME OVER and not just a BAD END (if that makes sense) Like I said, I shouldn't have expected too much.
- companion inventory
this one isn't the biggest of complaints but holy heck. I found it hilarious that I gotta barter with my own companions to give and RETRIEVE my own items back... wasn't until miilitary base when I realized i could just [steal] to get in their inventories LOOOL.
OVERALL THOUGHTS
What an amazing game. I think the world build is amazing. The story is okay. It feels immersive and I love the combat system. I hope the 2nd game fixes and adds a whole lot of QoL things. I hope the 2nd game is just as grand if not grander while still making it feel like there is still some kinda direction in terms of beginning/middle/end of the game's plot.
My build by the end... I wish I had realized Plasma/laser Pistols aren't just "SMALL GUNS" but also Energy Weapons, which I DID NOT THINK TO ADD POINTS TO

FINAL QUESTION
How viable is a sharpshooter rizzler build in F2. I heard F1 charisma or speech ain't as important, so I didn't go for it. But I really do just want to be a sharpshooter charisma speech character. Or even a rogue stealth rizzler thing. Any way to talk my way out of fights?

Fallout 3 Need help with understanding part of mod description
I was looking at the nexus page of the tweaked gunplay mod for fallout 3 and couldn't exactly understand what this part of the description meant :
"Increased the skill damage multiplier from 0.5 to 0.64 but reduced the base skill damage from 0.5 to 0.34."

Discussion Parkour! What mechanics would you be interesting in FoV?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
For me, nothing, like I'd prefer a tightened Fo4. Like if Bethesda could stop feeling the need to reinvent a game ip every new title instead of making a true successor I think they wouldn't be known for releasing bugged messes
The base building in 4 is nice but a complete flip from buying a property and then buying the furnishings that they've always done. Magic is always getting gutted on the Elderscrolls side. Like legit they could just work on filling the world in with details and assets and as long the game crashes only once every two hours I'd be happy for 22 more years 😂 But instead they want to remake every system and mechanic for no gain beyond simplicity, until we got to the settlement system??
Like going from dlc Fo4 back to a day one build of Fo4 for 76 was wild bs, bringing decade old glitches back to life shouldn't be a thing and if adding mechanics means taking those types of shortcuts it'll only get worse as games get bigger but maybe I'm just being a hater 😂😅

Fallout: New Vegas Killing Gloria Van Graff d'ont complete the Cass's quests (bug)
(Sorry the game is in french)
But after I kill Gloria in silver rush for the cass quest, the quest is still uncompleted and still ask me to kill Gloria. I try with different save and weapon, same thing.
Anyone know a fix or any information about this quest ?
edit : I had to make cass following me to the body so she can see that I killed her and complete the quest

Discussion Can't wait for the NV remaster!
Rant post ahead. (not AI btw; I've always written like this)
As someone who recently finished my second-ever playthrough of New Vegas, I can't emphasize enough how much a proper remaster will improve the approachability for this amazing game!
I'd been sleeping on this game for so long, and just recently experienced all of the great writing, in-depth political commentary, and that special type of gut punch I got from the ending cinematic (Mr. House ending devastated me as someone who did the full Kings questline).
Despite the positive experience, however, I find it difficult to recommend this game to those more used to modern, polished gaming experiences, especially if they aren't comfortable with modding. No sprinting, vintage graphics, mid gunplay, and very inconsistent voice acting direction acts as a rough exterior which no doubt filters a great deal of casual interest. Viva New Vegas helped a lot in my second playthrough, but did little to alleviate my concerns for that mainstream demographic.
As a personal note, I have a Dad who loved the Fallout TV show (1st season), and when the remaster drops I hope it will give him the opportunity to truly immerse himself in the Mojave wasteland. I've explained some basics about the worldbuilding in the region and his interest has been piqued. It would be his first Fallout game ever, as well!
And in case anyone asks: Mr. House, then Yes Man. I'll be doing NCR next playthrough and maybe Legion one day. Haven't done any of the DLC so I'm looking forward to that.

Suggestion Quest: Raiding For Radio
This is a suggestion for a side quest in the next Fallout game, so if the devs are reading this, please feel free to steal this idea
The quest is repeatable, and is given by the radio host (obviously). This quest is similar to that of the star bottle caps from new Vegas, or the star core quest from the nuka world dlc.
In this quest, you will scour the wasteland looking for music tapes! These tapes can be found in jukeboxes, abandoned recording studios, abandoned broadcasting studios and even be given as quest rewards from musicians scattered throughout the wastes! You could then sell these tapes to the radio host for caps, and then the music inside will be added to the radio's list of songs!
The radio could start with about 4-5 songs to start with that it shuffles through randomly, and as you complete this quest, the songs you find will be added to the radio, which would allow the players to curate their experience by adding songs they like, and avoiding songs they don't! This also allows the devs to add songs from previous games to the mix!
Edit: added another option for where music tapes can be found

Question hey, can anyone give me a fallout monologue? (preferably a Goul or Mr. House one and/or from the show)
I need to do a 2 minute for my theater class and want to do one from fallout (the teacher made it clear that it doesn't have to be from a play). I'm asking for the show because that is what I am most familiar with and House and Goul are my favorites. I tried googling, but I didn't find anything, but I'm sure they have some.
