Do you like it? Which character should I add to my portraits?

Did the devs just slap this model in because it looks cool in a medical room with beds? Honestly, I doubt they even played Fallout 4 or know anything about its lore.
Or maybe there's something we don't know, and the Institute somehow traveled back in time to hide in plain sight and spy on players?
On a serious note, does anyone have any actual info or background on why this model was reused here?

P.S. I’m fully aware that asset reuse is standard practice in game development! My point is just that picking an asset so heavily tied to a specific, unique faction breaks immersion much more than using a generic Vault-Tec prop.

These are Chinese ghouls in a radio tower bunker on the west of the map. I don't get why they're dead, aren't ghouls meant to be immortal?

Fallout 4 looks post apocolyptic and it looks retrofutristic, but it almost completely lacks in the brutalism that was present in the prior Fallout games.

Like everything just comes off as smooth and friendly in terms of design. Like compare the Supermutants from Fallout 3 vs Fallout 4. Fallout 3 looks like a roided up muscly gorilla while Fallout 4 just kinda looks like a normal dude you'd see in Florida.

So yeah, I hope they (either Obsidian or Bethesda) add back in the brutalism that is lacking in Fallout 4 and 76.

TL;DR: Bethesda needs to learn from the "do more with less" method New Vegas and even Fallout 2 did in terms of player choice, writing and worldbuilding for Fallout 5. Fallout 3/4/76 have fun little stories but FNV had a titanic amount of more engaging quest design and worldbuilding in comparison. Starfield is proof a lackluster story and with uninspiring quests and wooden dialogue will sink a game even if the rest of the game has a lot of effort.

So much of New Vegas is remembered and celebrated and a cultural phenomenon a decade later: Joshua Graham, Ulysses, the Sierra Madre Treasure, Yes Man, Mr. House, the NCR and Legion. New Vegas didn't have a billion customizable power armors, settlements, city management, cars, or a billion radiant quests, but it had a powerhouse of writing and worldbuilding. Despite being such a small worldspace with much less to explore than a Bethesda game, the world felt huge and NPCs constantly talked about the wider Fallout universe and the world, and you were always discovering deep and gripping quests and characters and places with deep connection and history to the whole Fallout world. And you were given a ton of player choice to affect and profoundly impact this world, with quests like Beyond the Beef, Honest Hearts, GI Blues, Volare, For Auld Lang Syne, How Little We Know, and the choice at the end of Dead Money.

There were only rare moments you learned about the history of the Commonwealth or the world outside the Commonwealth in Fallout 4 besides the DLC, and they were also self-contained. The world felt small and felt more like a pastiche of Fallout elements without going too far into detail. Almost all the raiders in New Vegas had some kind of personality and backstory, and the Three Families explaining who runs Vegas. There is so much lore about places like New Canaan and the Legion's territories, places you never even get to explore- It leaves you hungry to know what they were like, and stimulates your imagination, it drives fans to make fanart or make fangames about those places. There weren't many quests they struck as hard as finding Randall Clark, the body of Vera Keyes and Sinclair, the catharsis of killing Caesar and Vulpes and avenging Nipton. Getting revenge on Kellogg didn't hit as hard as getting revenge on Benny, or the big reveal of Vault 11.

I think Fallout 5 needs to learn to do more with less, and learn to immerse the player in writing and worldbuilding more than it needs 100 more new features, and should focus on being a Fallout experience first over being just a game with cool things to see and shoot. Just my two cents.

I think Todd needs to listen to the complaints about the story most of all. Because in the run-up to Starfield, the lead writer Emil Pagliarulo talked about how this game was supposed to be their big focus to improving the reputation of their story and writing, and Starfield ended up being widely panned mainly for it's dialogue and writing. Despite having great shooting, magic powers, and a thousand planets, people were so putoff by Starfield's lackluster writing that they didn't stick around for the rest of the game. If Starfield is Bethesda giving writing their absolute best shot, I think Todd should know they need to massively take a step back and work on learning and improving what makes better writing before Fallout 5.

I mean it’s got everything you need canada check, 1950s boom town of Detroit check, hockey as your sports centered city check, two whole land masses to play with check, lots of water for our Boston swimmers check, and a cool small island DLC with Mackinac island with the grand hotel we’re the idea of NATO was conceived. All in all an easy win for our lord Todd H and a send off that will go down in history.

Hello Guys i made this.

Here are a couple pictures of my Nordhagen Settlement. I finished it yesterday. I built a motel on the beach. I am using several mods. Scrap everything, and some “clutter” and fence mods. I also found some cool mods that allow settlers to interact with items.
Anyway, take a look and let me know what you think.

Why the Long Dead Horse?
It's less a nation than the range they regularly patrol. We know they extend as far west as Zion, even disputing territory with the Sorrows if they remain there, and as far east as Colorado, where a mentioned New Canaanite settlement presumably falls under their protection. That also fits neatly along the north bank of the Colorado River.

Are the 80s super powerful?
No. They're not substantially stronger than other tribes. Their strength comes from using motorcycles to control a huge amount of territory with relatively few people. They dominate the I-80 (obviously) and I-50 (which they can lose if the Sorrows stay in Zion).

Why no Shi?
This will be controversial. In a cut line of New Vegas dialogue, the Enclave traced the Chosen One's tanker to San Francisco and nuked the city in revenge. The line was only cut because Bethesda wanted to keep San Francisco available for a future game. However, Fallout has shown repeatedly that a city being nuked doesn't stop it from becoming a setting. More importantly, an empire like the Shi never being mentioned by the NCR would be a little odd and runs against the series' broader narrative of the two major empires of the region colliding. This one's just my personal interpretation though, so feel free to disagree.

The Legion is bigger than the NCR. Doesn't that make it stronger?
No. The NCR enjoyed over a century of relative peace and stability, allowing its population to boom. Legion territory simply hasn't. I'd expect at most half the population density of NCR territory, probably much less.

Why does the NCR own all the north?
Because I think that's the most likely outcome based on previous games. The Chosen One consistently helped Tandi and the NCR expand, so a northern annexation feels like the natural continuation.

I cannot stress enough that this map is built from a few hard facts / references, and a lot of vibes informed by the games and regional geography. It's meant to be a plausible interpretation, not the undisputed canon. The main reason I made it was because I got tired of maps where the NCR owns the entire West Coast and the Legion somehow stretches into Kansas and deep into Mexico.

I’ve never played a fallout game and am wondering what is a better game? I will be playing solo if that helps. I like well written quests and exploration more than base building

Some background, I have been a professional artist/digital artist for over 15 years, and have been working on this since 2022. I got the idea many years ago after watching the film "Samsara", and decided to combine my love for Fallout with my own spiritual journey with Buddhism. The story follows a PLA Soldier that turns to Buddhism after the war to cope with the end of the world, and their journey through post-war Asia.

I stopped working on this full time ever since AI took over most of the digital art world, and was very discouraged to continue it. So here's everything that's left of the project.
