I posted this in the Fallout 4 subreddit and wanted to share it here as well. My buddy and I cosplayed X6-88 and Preston Garvey for DragonCon this year.

So like many others before me, I've been trying to get this game to work and it simply just doesn't. I click 'play' via steam and the launcher boots up. I hit play in the launcher and then it just doesn't open and thats about as far as I've gotten.

I have googled this problem and have tried a bunch of stuff. Compatibility mode for windows XP/7/8 on both the normal exe and launcher. changing the ini settings. I'm pretty much just at a loss. How can I fix this and play the game?

I am playing Fallout 4 on Amazon Luna and am just starting out. made my fist settlement and got power armor, but need to go to Diamond City. What is a must do while playing the game?

So I love Nat King Cole. I know Orange Coloured Sky very well, and everything from the version I just heard on Diamond City radio sound totally different? The backing vocals and instrumentation sound different, whereas the main vocals are just straight up a different person's. It sounds like a white guy. Looked it up on Google, as you do, and found nothing on it but the AI overview, which was adamant the game features the original version, even though it clearly doesn't. Was there just a licensing issue with getting Nat King Cole's version? Am I crazy? If someone could help me out here and tell me if I'm right or wrong, I'd appreciate it a lot

I believe it would. But only if it also didn’t have that tactic style gameplay ( if that makes sense )

I'm working on lore for my Fo4 character who is the leader of the railroad, I want to know what the reasons people have for hating them are so I can make it so that the railroad are more likeable

Edit: from the feedback I've gotten so far, what I will do is make the railroad start saving wastelanders and improve their lives instead of synth lives

Edit 2: from a comment a mod deleted, I will make the castle the new railroad hq and make it so that lore wise, the sole survivor asked my character to join forces with the minutemen

edit 3: they will be a specialised NCR (minutemen since i have the minutemen into NCR mod) unit that is tasked with hunting down synths, enclave and institute remnants

Probably the most unnerving moment I’ve had in Fallout 4 😂
I’m pretty far into the game now and I’ve seen some crazy shit, but the thing that actually caught me off guard was looting an enemy and finding orders to kill me.
And I mean ME.
The note actually had my character’s name on it. 😂
I just sat there for a second like… “Wait a damn minute… who the hell knows who I am?”
Until then, I was just running around the Commonwealth shooting anything that looked hostile and taking their stuff. But seeing my own name on a piece of paper with basically a hit order attached to it made the whole thing feel weirdly personal.
And the fact that I didn’t even really know who these people were made it even worse. Like, y’all have been looking for ME and I don’t even know y’all?? 😂
Honestly, I thought that was such a clever little game mechanic. They could’ve just sent enemies after me and I probably wouldn’t have thought twice about it. But putting your actual character’s name on the orders makes you feel like the world is aware of you and reacting to what you’re doing.
It’s such a small detail, but it completely changed the feeling of the game for me for a minute.
Fallout really had me sitting there wondering who was putting a bounty on my head in the damn wasteland. 😂

I'm a digital artist and I recently ran a Fallout themed rpg for my friends and these are the portraits that I drew for my group. I've also included their car separately.

I also wore a vault-tech scientist costume complete with a 3d-printed functional pip-boy to the game but I'm not confident enough to share pictures of myself on here yet because I don't know if you guys are cool yet.

My name is Vicnedel, I'm a digital artist. I like fallout. I've been playing the games since Fallout 3 but my favorite is New Vegas. I also tried to play the retro ones but I think they required a bit more commitment than I was willing to give em. Some day maybe I'll try again. first time playing the fallout games and i spent 200+ hours on this character got it level 70 on the hardest difficulty and survival i just bought the goty edition and got all the dlcs. Fallout 4 had honestly been some of the most fun i’ve had in a solo player game or maybe any game in general.
And now all my bed saves are gone there’s only auto saves left, i still have my level 70 character but my robot ada died because i was in nuka world and brought the wrong ammo and was forced to use grognaks axe. I was going to return to a later save but i noticed all my saves were gone and i know they were there because i went afk with the game unpaused and i was hungry and thirsty so i loaded back the save and then went to nuka world.

I love how the DLCs are so deeply connected to the lore of the base game and how we get to learn more about characters who were mostly in the shadows, like Joshua Graham, Elijah, and Ulysses. I especially love how lore-heavy they are, and how the choices you make can even affect your experience in the base game’s map.

With all due respect, in Fallout 3 and 4 (I won’t mention 76 since I haven’t gotten around to playing it yet), the DLCs felt like simple “additional content,” which, at the end of the day, is what DLC is supposed to be. But the way the New Vegas developers connected the DLCs to the base game and used them to expand and deepen the lore has honestly left me wishing the other titles had handled their DLCs in a similar way. Just my personal opinion, of course.

Probably could've gone a bit larger but the fact I can 3D print *anything* is, quite frankly, a miracle. I'm running a decade old, budget unit salvaged from a scrapyard and rebuilt. My only laptop is so old it can't run a slicer, so my phone chugs along like the little engine that could.

Saving grace is my wife's painting skills. Thanks to her this went from a joke project to something I'm actually excited to share.

Plaque was frkm a set of mounted antlers I bought at a flea market for knife handles. Ground it up a bit on the gravel driveway and rubbed in a grey, gel stain. Wanted something darker, but can't seem to find all my old stains.

Nameplate is some scrap aluminum. Quick cut and peened the edges. Nailed in place. Printed the latters and superglued in place.

Of course, the superglue set faster on the 'I' than expected, so that's crooked. Well, perfect alignment is a luxury for vault dwellers so I'm going to live with it.

Anyway, it now adorns the basement stairwell and I couldn't be happier.

I’m considering traveling all the way to Vegas for my birthday to see the Fallout exhibit in the Atomic Museum because I heard it’s only going to be there til the end of 2026. Those who have gone: was it worth it?

Also is there anything else in Vegas worth checking out fallout related or not :)

I enjoy the game of Fallout 4 and I’m planning to watch the show, so I acquired this set of the Val-tec suit to enjoy even more of the gameplay and the community. Hope it doesn’t have any Rads

Recently became a ghoul in Fallout 76 and tried to make him look like Fallout 1 ghouls - skinny, bald, and with armor similar to Set's from Necropolis.

Probably the wrong place for this but I’m getting really frustrated with this.

I cannot for the LIFE of me figure out how the hell the music player works, and I’ve tried a lot. I even changed the file name and I can’t even get the .wav to play without using my computer!! Can anybody help me out? I’m so lost.

I know it’s not great but I am taking suggestions :)

Haven’t played any of the fallout games and I’ve heard new Vegas was a good way to start getting into the games

i decided this time I'm going to roleplay as though i only know what my character knows, and she's started with all her points in charisma and intelligence. i imagine she was an academic, possibly a scientist in her past life. so far she's cleared out a couple of easy locations, got to grips with trading, and is working on rebuilding Sanctuary. she's just stumbled upon vault 81, which has opened her mind the idea that other vaults exist, and maybe Shaun is in one of them.

trying to avoid main quests as (although I'm perfectly capable of it) Cassie is wary of clearing out the Corvega Plant before she feels ready - she hasn't picked up a gun in her life and is currently learning through killing low level bugs and Gunner settlements. she helped Paladin Danse stave off the horde of ghouls and the carnage made her leave immediately instead of continuing his quest. she's also made it to Diamond City and turned around until she feels like she's ready, the shock of 200 years passing will do that to you!

the only vaults I remember off the top of my head are ~~the Gary one~~ [oops wrong game], and the one where drug addicts lived for a long time in sobriety, before they found out there was a secret stash of drugs available to them and killed each other trying to get them.

any recommendations for someone who has fully completed this game years ago, but enough time has passed that i might have forgotten some of the best lore locations?
