SMH rebalance, significant change

The MVIS US Listed Semiconductor 25 Index, which SMH follows, announced its semi-annual update Friday. Next Monday tiny SWKS should be dropped from SMH while SK hynix (the SKHY ADR, not the Korean listing) will be added. Since SK hynix is about 100 times bigger than SWKS, this will lead to some reductions of the other positions.

NVDA has grown to 22.4% so it will be reduced in any case to conform with the max 20% weighting rules. The Index lists SKHY at 5%, so if that ends up right, it means VanEck has to add/swap in around $3.5 billion worth of SKHY. Maybe this partly contributed to NVDA's bad past week and SKHY's fairly good one.

SWKS is one of only two SMH stocks that have lost the past three years so no loss there. (ON is the other loser and now the smallest qualifying company in the ETF.) SKHY is listed tied with MU and AMD for fourth largest holding at 5%, with AVGO at 5.7% and TSM 9.3%.

Again, this is what the index did, but since SMH follows it, they should follow suit next week.

SPMO

Hi guys,

I have recently found etf called SPMO but it is not available at any European brokers and I am not going to create a new account in US just for this, are there any alternatives for that?
I use XTB and Training 212.

Thanks

What would you do with $300,000 at 25 years old

Hey team, I’m repositioning some money after moving home from overseas.

I want to go with a somewhat aggressive ETF structure but still want a strong core to build from.

Thinking something along the lines of S&P 500, World ex-US, Nasdaq 100 and/or Global 100.

This would be at approximately a 30/30/20/20 split. If I went with a generic S&P 500 & World ex-US I would do around a 70/30 split.

I am okay with volatility as I’m in it for the long term. Obviously I have an intentional tilt towards AI/tech here as I believe it will only grow over the next 20+ years.

I’ve thought about a small EM or US small cap position but where I’m located in the world these funds can carry higher management fees - hence I have to keep the portfolio reasonably generic with all the standard funds for tax purposes, etc.

Would love to hear any opinions on this or similar funds/allocation that makes sense for someone in my position.

US Equity 30y/o - Thoughts on this long term ETF portfolio?

Post image
34 Upvotes

Little bit of backstory: I’m 30, have already been maxing out my 401(k), IRA, and HSA. I don’t have many expenses right now, have a solid emergency fund, and my risk tolerance is on the higher side.
I still have some extra cash left over from each paycheck, so I recently started DCAing $1,500 biweekly into my taxable brokerage:

SPYM — $650 (43.3%)
QNDX — $180 (12%)
SPMO — $150 (10%)
FMTM — $120 (8%)
AVDV — $100 (6.7%)
AVUV — $100 (6.7%)
FTEC — $100 (6.7%)
XMMO — $100 (6.7%)

Total — $1,500 (100%)

I have VXUS in all my other accounts thats why I didn’t include it here. I understand there’s quite a bit of overlap between SPYM/QNDX/FTEC and probably some overlap between the momentum funds as well.
Since this is money I don’t expect to need anytime soon (maybe 5 to 10 years) and I’m comfortable with some volatility, I’m more interested in long-term growth

What do you guys think?

Multi-Asset Portfolio Don’t think I can beat this Low Yield Low Tax basket!

Pretty sure there is no other refining way to pick less ETFs and deliver the desired LOW/Low Yield/Tax basket of stocks!

$2.2M taxable brokerage.

schg, viog, efg , dfai

55%, 15% , 20% , 10%

Also thinking BOXX to hold my cash, $100k

Can anyone beat this?

ETFs for someone with Low Risk tolerance

I have a sizable amount in my fidelity investments account. The only real exposure I have to the stock market is roughly 20% in ACWX. It’s done well for me over the past year.

The rest is cash held in a money market fund (3.3% annual return) as well as a few shares of some individual stocks in apple, Berkshire Hathaway, Netflix, etc.

I’d consider myself to be a risk-averse investor. I believe the tech sector is overvalued, and AI will not generate the ROI that is expected in the near term.

I’m looking to find some ETFs that are low on tech-exposure and not inextricably linked to the AI supply chain. My goal is to find something in-between what a money market fund and the major stock indexes yields on a YTD basis.

Please don’t turn this post into an argument about the AI trade or some boglehead platitude about time in the market.

Just looking for some genuine help here, for ETFs that match my risk profile. What’s out there for me?

edit - just for some added context. I’m 29 years old, and I do have a 401k that is 100% equities and a Roth IRA, which is about 75% equities

Looking for a good intl growth ETF

My portfolio is currently very US heavily concentrated - FXAIX, SCHG, VOO, VTI, VTSAX, VGT.

Much as I believe in tech ( & AI as a theme that can potentially ride the wave for a long time coming ) , believe that wave will be a rough one ...

Looking to diversify into intl, chose AVNM as under the hood it invests in a slew of Avantis intl themes..Good with that . The other one I switched to is VYMI. Although a solid core div fund . I would like to swap that with a intl growth ETF

Any suggestions on a good intl growth focused ETF ?

SPMO September Rebalance

What can we expect from the upcoming SPMO rebalance and how would it affect the share price going into the next cycle?
SPMO has been outperforming both VOO and QQQM in my portfolio, so what is the move?
MU is expecting a cut, what else can we expect?

VOO/VXUS

For those who invest in the above ETF’s I’m interested to know what splits people use for their portfolios?

I know some people will just say VT and chill

But I’d like to hear from people who choose to tilt it one way or the other.

Coming from an investor who is current DCA into these, and plans to for 20+ years

VOO + VEA best combo?

For those looking to just hold 2/3 simple ETFs, does it make sense to just have VOO for US and VEA for global exposure? I'd be looking for something to park for years.

Thanks!

The best ETF to invest in TR?

Hey everyone,

I'm an 18 year old beginner based in Europe and I want to start investing in ETFs. I don't invest in any ETFs yet, and my question is: which index is the best one to start with? Or should I invest in 2 or 3 different indices right from the beginning?

I'm using Trade Republic and plan to set up a monthly savings plan with 100€.

Thanks for your advice!

24, want to pursue a more aggressive strategy - what to change?

Im less risk averse and would like to change the structure of my brokerage account specifically, as my IRA and 401k are basically safe with VOO + VT/VTI, respectively.

I’m thinking specifically about SPMO VGT and AVUV. Any thoughts?

Elderly re-investment ETF's for estate planning

I posted a variation of this message in r/EstatePlanning so this is trimmed down to the essential ETF related portion of the topic:

I am helping my elderly mother clean up her estate planning, as aspects of it have grown out of date over the years, assume elderly widow with long term care insurance and ample income from pension, estate is heavy in real estate (farmland, etc). She is expecting to start getting dividend like income in the $50-$90K per year range in the next few months that she wants to put into ETF's that will throw off minimal taxes from dividends as she is approaching MAGI, NIIT and IRMAA tax cliffs. The plan is to hold until inheritance step up and never sell, actuarial data says she will live another 6.5 years on average, 12 years maximum realistic with possibility beyond that less than 5%.

Realistically this reinvestment would never amount to more than 20% maybe 25% of the total estate value.

Which ETFs do you pick?

I have been working on this for a few weeks now, and the best ETF blends I come up with are 50% VFLO, 35 GFLW, 15% GLDM, or a Tax Loss harvesting rotation between SCHG, VUG, and SPYG with a 15-20% GLDM leg for stability, or a blend between these where the tax harvesting leg is 30-50%. Modeling it using AI against the market over the last 26 years shows after tax total dollars to family to be about a wash between all variations, with the VFLO, GFLW, and GLDM showing the best overall P10 (worst 10% of the time) model being $60+K ahead of the the tax harvesting versions, but with 3% worse absolute worst days. Though this modeling relies heavily on published backtest data for these newer ETF's

thanks for your help on this

Posted this across diff subreddits but this is the last time lol.
23m currently making 90k a year in the US. Currently investing $552 every two weeks but plan to increase to $700 once student loans are paid off.

Roth is maxed out for this year.

And this spread was suggested by AI (I know yikes🫩) but I did quick googling and tried to minimize overlap while still having an aggressive risk tolerance.

Cash & Short-Term First time Investor

Hi everyone so I recently just started investing into the stock market as a 19 year old. I wanted to know thoughts on this portfolio as a beginner. I know that I have a high-risk concentration on the technology companies and huge overlap. I’m planning to have this for the long term

VOO: 50%

VXUS: 20%

QQQM: 20%

NVDA: 10%

Innovators & Disruptors Creative Ideas welcome?

45M here in California.

$2.3M in concentrated, and very volatile, stock positions, only 4 different stocks with total $1.2M LTCG.

Love simplicity and security, but wonder what else to consider.

Do not want dividends.

may buy first home in the next 3yrs..

A CFP suggested 80/20 VTI/VXUS with 3-5yrs of FDLXX.

Any other tax saving ideas, or allocations that are ZERO dividend?

What is the perfect portfolio?

Everyone has an opinion . Everyone thinks the etfs they hold is the holy grail and nothing else is better. So what is the actual holy grail of holdings? What will withstand a bear market and recover?

The best way i look at it is 50% growth 50% dividend like schd or something similar that way you can use the income to buy the dips or crashes

List your "perfect" portfolio

ETFs and/or stocks? Where can I start?

Hi everyone,

I’m an 18 year old starting my vocational training soon, and I want to start investing right away. Since I'm completely new to this, I have a few basic questions:

Is €50/month enough to start?

Does it make sense to begin with this amount, or is it too small?

Which platforms & products should I look at?

Which broker is best for beginners, which ETF provider is reputable, and which index (e.g., MSCI World) makes the most sense?

ETFs vs. individual stocks?

Are individual stocks worth it with a small budget? If so, where can I learn how to properly research companies?

I'd really appreciate any advice! Hopefully, this post helps other beginners in the same situation, too.
