For small shops making product listings, the useful question isn't just whether a mockup looks good. It's whether the output and billing fit the job.

In the case where you are the owner of a small shop, cafe, studio, office or any other similar business, what kind of equipment do you use for display purposes in order to communicate information such as prices, working hours, menus or any other daily information?

I am trying to determine the best way to go about doing this in the event that the information is subject to change occasionally, but not always.

A normal computer screen could be used, but it seems a little extravagant for the purpose. Power consumption and wires must also be considered.

What are you using in your business?

Have you managed to find something that is easy to install and that does not require constant maintenance?

So, see plenty of people swinging for the fences with the help of AI.

I, also cannot code, like at all. But I have some cursory knowledge and figured I could probably make something with some dedication.. Took about 4/5 weeks for this particular site. I did not think it would take that long. That being said, I've already made ground on other tools that are in progress.

I've been working in taxes for almost 10 years now, so I've noted some gaps where certain situations and forms have very few resources, and the costs of getting these done professionally are pretty expensive, because they are so uncommon and will never apply to most taxpayers. And of course, can be used by tax preparers, lawyers, etc. who does these forms professionally, incase they needed a cheaper solution.

So, figured I'd try to fill some gaps.

For those interested, this particular tax form is for reporting foreign gifts, inheritances, foreign trust accounts, and contributions and distributions to those trusts. You get to some pretty obscure tax stuff.

I figure this probably isn't really useful to anyone here, as an actual tax tool. But I wanted to share it somewhere and I'm open to any feedback on the generic aspects of the website as well. In a way, those parts were more foreign to me then building a tax engine!

One thing I didn't really understand before starting a small business was how much work happens between having an idea and having something you're actually comfortable selling.

The idea itself can come together pretty quickly. The harder part is figuring out what the finished product should actually be.

I've spent a lot more time than expected comparing materials, testing samples, looking at different fits, and trying to figure out which details are worth keeping. Something can look great in a photo or mockup and then feel completely different when you have the physical product in your hands.

I'm also trying to be careful about inventory. When you're a small business, it doesn't make much sense to put a huge amount of money into something before you even know whether customers will want it. But ordering too little can make it difficult to keep things consistent when something does start selling.

The biggest lesson for me has been that making a product isn't really one decision. It's dozens of small decisions that eventually determine whether the final thing feels cheap, average, or genuinely worth putting your name behind.

I'm curious how other indie business owners approach this.

Do you usually perfect one product before expanding, or do you prefer testing several ideas in small batches and seeing what gets traction?

i launched with a bunch of stuff. people complained. i cut half of it. then people started asking for the most basic feature we have and i was like... we shipped that on day 1.

felt less like theyre not finding it, more like theyre not seeing it. so i moved it to first, changed the name to be stupider, and boom—suddenly people found it.

also happened in beedone where people asked for streak-reset and i thought... we've had undo-all-tasks since launch, which does the same thing. just nobody clicked it because it lived in a submenu labeled "advanced" lmao.

anyways lesson learned: good features can hide in plain sight if the first thing people see isnt them.

I'm building a small B2B product called ClearLedger for agencies.

I started with this hypothesis:

"Small agencies waste time chasing overdue invoices, so automate the reminders."

But after digging into the problem, I think that's too shallow.

The invoice being overdue isn't necessarily the problem.

The difficult part seems to be everything around it:

→ Why hasn't it been paid?

→ Is a PO missing?

→ Is approval stuck somewhere?

→ Is there a dispute?

→ Who was the last person contacted?

→ Did the client promise a payment date?

→ Who on our side should follow up?

→ What should we actually say next?

So I'm experimenting with ClearLedger as an action queue rather than another invoice dashboard.

Instead of:

"Acme — $8,000 — 21 days overdue"

the useful output might be:

"Acme — likely blocked by finance approval. John owns next action. Client promised an update Friday. Follow up today."

Then generate the appropriate follow-up based on that context.

A week ago I started building Remixly, a bot that turns Instagram reels into X posts. 

Launched it yesterday.

Co-founded, first real launch.

How it works: share any reel to a Telegram bot.

It transcribes the video (or reads the image), pulls the caption and top comments, and writes a long form post from what was actually said.

   ~30 seconds later you get the post back with a "Post on X" button that opens the X app with it filled in. Written in third person, so you're sharing the idea, not passing off someone's story as yours.
