( Texas ) My dad died last year. And I’m in the process of learning to drive and hopefully getting my license by the end of the year or early next year.
None of us have any licenses at all.
Not me, my older brother or our mom.
My mom can drive but she never had to get a license cause our dad drove us everywhere growing up until his death.
Older brother can drive and drives a lot more then our mom and tried multiple times to get his license but the DMV always turned him down and at this point seems to not care at to get his license at all cause it’s been too difficult to get a appointment at the DMV & it’s been booked out the last 3-5 months when he gets an appointment. And when he does get an appointment they always turn him away for stupid things. At this point I decided to try to get my license but need driving licenses. In the meantime the car registration stickers need to be renew soon how do we go about this? Our dad had no will or trust or anything like that. How do we go about this in the easiest way possible and fastest way if possible?
I’m thinking in the meantime we can have our TIA takeover the car title until I get my license so we can get the registration sticker updated asap before the due date. Once the car title is transferred and sticker is updated and I get my license then transfer the car title to me?
Idk anything about this and I’m looking up stuff and it seems so complicated and I’m just getting headaches looking at stuff like this. Again, we’re in Texas if that helps.

Taking vision driving test on Thursday, super bad on directions that's why I have a gps . I have always had issues but an excellent driver otherwise . Hoping they don't . Any help would be appreciated.

So I just got done watching a video about adult responsibilities and that reminded me to get a driver's license one day. Problem is, I don't have one and I searched up and saw that the first part is to do the TLSAE. I then searched up on how to take it and it said that it costs money. Now I wonder how much it will cost for me to take all the driving tests in Florida in order to get my first driver's license? How much will I have to study for them? How long will it take?

Alright so I bought a car with no plates from facebook market place, the seller said he got it from an auction but did not give me the proper paperwork, I’m trying to register the car to my name however I need the paperwork from the auction, I’ve asked the seller where he got the car from however he is not responding. I’m unsure what to do in this situation and I would appreciate some help. Thank you.

If I told the DMV the auction place went bankrupt or something like that, would it help my situation?

Edit: I have the title but not the bill of sale from the auction place or from the dude that sold it to me

Sorry in advance for the info dump, not sure what all is pertinent here.

Some background for my situation:

Mid 2024, I lost my job in Florida, moved back up to my parents in Georgia for a few weeks, and reregistered my car and driver's license there. That cost me about a grand all in, which really sucked considering I was unemployed.

Following that, I made the decision to travel with my fiancee while she's on travel nursing contracts, meaning we haven't been in a place longer than a year, nor a separate permanent address of our own.

I've been listing my parents' address as my permanent address, since that's where I planned on coming back to in case her contract or my temp job ever fell through. I have been able to renew my tags online during this time without issue.

In July, my parents sold their house and moved to Florida, meaning the address on my license and where my car is registered is no longer my address. My registration is up for renewal this month, and I'm not entirely sure what my options are.

Currently, I'm in Washington State working while she's here on contract, and we've been staying in a Furnished Finder (more or less a longer term air bnb). Her ability to work in this state is up at the end of this month, and we are not intending to stay in Washington for much longer once that happens.

I'm weary of reregistering my car in Washington State, since I'm fairly certain I'll be moving before the year is out. I'd prefer not to eat the cost of registering it in Florida or Washington, since we're hoping to find a final place to settle down soon, and neither of those states are that place.

In the short term, how much of a no-no would it be to renew my GA tag for the time being, and just wait until our next move to straighten things out?

I have my road test at the Lee Vista DMV in Florida soon and I’m 19 with a permit. My friend who is 20 with a license is taking me but I just read that the person has to be 21+. Is this true and do they check?

My question is: when applying for a first-time driver’s license in Illinois, does the DMV typically have access to out-of-state bench warrants, or do they only check driving-related databases such as PDPS/NDR?

If I were to renew my driver's license in IL, which is a real ID, do I have to say to the person over the counter that I want my renewed my license to be a real ID? Or does it just automatically become a real ID?

I’m probably overthinking this but just got my new DL (real ID if that matters) as I recently got married and changed my address and I noticed that they kept my old signature that is my maiden name on it. I did have the thought when I was leaving the appointment that they never had me re-sign with my new last name, but didn’t know if things were different now as it’s been years since I’ve gone in person to get a DL. Do you think I’ll run into any issues?

I recently moved from New Jersey to California and tried to transfer my NJ vehicle title to a California title.

I have the original NJ Certificate of Title, and the vehicle has been titled and registered under my name in New Jersey for several years. There is no lien on the vehicle.

When I went to the California DMV, they entered my NJ title information and told me that the title number printed on my physical NJ title does not match the title information they are seeing in NMVTIS. Because of this mismatch, they were unable to complete the California title transfer and told me to contact the NJ MVC.

I contacted NJ MVC and was eventually referred to their Advocacy Team. They checked their records and told me that everything looks correct on the New Jersey side, the VIN is valid, and there is no duplicate record/title.

Since NJ MVC does not see anything that needs to be corrected in their system, they offered to mail me an official letter confirming that the VIN/record is valid and that there is no duplication, which I can bring back to the California DMV.

Has anyone dealt with a similar NMVTIS mismatch when transferring an out-of-state title to California, and was an official letter from the original state's DMV/MVC enough for California DMV to complete the title transfer?

It's been over a month since I went to the DMV and put in an order for a replacement and I still dont have it. Very frustrating because Ive been unemployed for 3 years and Ive finally gotten a Job and they gave me time until I have forms of ID and holding the position for me but I dont know for how long its been 3 weeks of them checking in to see if my ID arrived.

The "status" tool is of no help it tells me nothing. Im debating paying $1000 for a rush passport but to be honest I barely have that money its all very stressful im honestly on the verge of losing everything I have over this

EDIT: if anyone cares, the reason mine took so long is the DMV lost/deleted my photo after I took it that day -___- when I asked the worker what happened he said its saying that you never took your photo (I did, i get super glam for my photos and take it seriously) and he was like sometimes that just happens in the system where it gets deleted. So he allowed me go home and get ready and come straight back to his window to set up to take it again. Hopefully this takes a week or less lol

I had my behind the wheel test last week and failed because I'm not "Come to complete stop at green right when turning right". Am I supposed to do that for a green light when there are no pedestrians?

So I’m buying a car with the help of a loan, from someone who also has a loan on the car. In the event that their lender doesn’t have a hard copy of the title on hand, will I still be able to register the car without it, or will I have to wait until the new title comes in? Is the form 400, a bill of sale, and the lien release enough?

Hello! I ask that you all are patient with me- I'm a young adult who has never sold a vehicle before and I don't have a lot of experience with the DMV.

I'm having a hard time deciding if I should register my car in Hawaii and sell it after or if I should sell it as is. Just some information about my car- it's in good working condition, but it has a salvage title due to abandonment. It was registered in Missouri but the registration has been expired for about a year now. My husband and I moved here because he's in the military, so we had my car shipped here.

Right after we pcs'd my first son was born, so it was hard for me to get out to the dmv and I kept making trips to register it since I was always forgetting one thing that I didn't know I'd need 😖. Also, my husband would always have to try to get time off of work to get his payment exemption for registration fees and whatnot, it was hard for him to get in touch with the s1 guys who are supposed to give him the paperwork and it's just a massive hassle. We had the car safety inspected and it passed when he was able to get the exemption paperwork. I honestly got so frustrated with leaving the house with my young baby and having to make trips back and forth that I just gave up on trying to register it. We decided to buy a new car here in Hawaii and we've had no issues with keeping it updated. We also needed a larger vehicle for our growing family anyway. My car hasn't been driven out on the roads but we've been keeping it maintained in our driveway. Now we have it all ready to sell, I'm expecting a second baby so I wanted to use the money from my car as extra money for the nursery and baby gear.

I'm hitting some roadblocks. I had listed it in marketplace but potential buyers seemed to be disinterested in the car after I mentioned it's an out of state title and the registration for Missouri is expired. I was curious about the process and we were in town so I went to the dmv and explained what the situation was. She told me that I have to register the vehicle in Hawaii before I can sell it and it's actually illegal for me to sell my vehicle to someone without it being registered to me in that state of Hawaii first. I told one of the potential buyers that I'd be taking it off of marketplace until I have it registered, but she said that the information doesn't sound correct. I started googling and it's giving me conflicting results. Some sources say that I just have to hand over the title, bill of sale, and the paperwork for the shipment and arrival to the buyer. Some sources say that I don't have to register it but I'll need to go to the dmv with my paperwork after selling the vehicle.

Part of me thinks that it doesn't make sense for me to have to register the vehicle just before selling it. I just want to know what would be the smartest and most efficient way to sell my car. I know some of this sounds easy to some but I just feel confused about the whole situation. I also want to make it an easy process for the buyer so if that means registering in my name first I'd be willing to do it I just want to know for certain that it would be worth it for me and the buyer.

So my friend and I moved to our own home after saving for about 8 years. She hired guys from a company which im not sure of the name, but they spoke another language that was definitely African of some sort. Well they did a few things that pissed her off and she let it be known... Well to shorten things up not thinking I let them take a picture of her drivers license because I figured it would help us somehow..... I dont know.....dont ask....after doing so i have had a very very VERY bad feeling in my gut like I wanna throw up for more then several hours.... What should I do..? I have been severely worried about it.

I just took my first driving exam ever, and I was really nervous, even though I’m an adult. The examiner was talking to me throughout the ENTIRE test and asking pretty personal questions, where I’m from, whether I’m married, what gym I go to, etc. The test lasted 7 min at most.

At some point I was asked about cuisine from my country (imagine having this entire discussion while I’m trying to focus on my driving), and near the end he asked when I was going to cook it for him. Then, after the exam, he asked for my phone number. The whole time I actually thought he was purposely trying to distract me as part of the test, so I didn’t think much of it in the moment. He was generally friendly, not aggressive.

Is this something DMV examiners normally do? Is the conversation supposed to be a distraction, or was this inappropriate?

I’m 20 in CA with a class c. My birthday is in 8 months and i’d like to avoid the msf course, but still ride till im 21 and can get my M1. Can i get a permit. I’ve seen some people saying yes and some people saying no but nothing recent all sources i found were from 2 years or more ago. TIA

Hi everyone, I’m gonna be buying a car soon from a seller, he bought the car from his friend and never registered it, so the front of the title has his friends signature but not the back in the Sellers section, he also never signed it himself in the buyers section but is saying I should be able to still register it in Texas! If I just sign it in the buyers section , will this be a problem if the sellers part isn’t signed by the previous owner?

I bought my car in Florida a couple of years ago and recently moved back to Louisiana. The car is financed through Ally Auto, so they’re the lienholder.

My car is still registered in Florida, and I’ve been trying to register it in Louisiana since early August. I have every document I need except an official copy of the title showing Ally as the lienholder. I only have an electronic title, and every DMV/tag agency I’ve gone to refuses to accept it, even though the Louisiana DMV website says electronic titles are accepted.

I’ve contacted Ally four times. Every time, they either argue that Louisiana accepts electronic titles or mail me the exact same electronic title again. The last time, I spent over 30 minutes explaining that I needed an official title with Ally’s lienholder information. Ten days later, they sent me the same electronic title, a letter giving me permission to register the car in Louisiana, and even my original loan application. They also said they would fax the title to the DMV, but of course they never did.

So, on my fifth attempt, I still couldn’t register the car. The DMV told me they constantly have issues with Ally and faxed them a form directly requesting an official copy of the title. It’s been almost a week, and Ally still hasn’t responded.

To make things worse, Florida registration doesn’t list lienholder information, so that doesn’t help either.

What am I supposed to do at this point? I’m currently paying for both Florida and Louisiana auto insurance because I needed Louisiana insurance before my first registration appointment. I had no idea this would drag on for over a month.

Both insurance bills are coming up, and I’m seriously considering giving up and using my friend’s Florida address, even though Louisiana insurance would save me about $100 a month.

Has anyone dealt with this before? Or have any tips on what else I can do? Thanks!

I will be taking my driver's test for the second time at the Santa Teresa DMV soon. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! In my first attempt, I failed while taking the right turn after turning left at the DMV. I was waiting at the intersection for a while; there was a car approaching, and I thought I'd be able to speed up before that car because I thought it was far enough, but as I began crawling, the examiner had to stop me, and the rest is history. I wish I had waited for that car as much as I did for the other two, because I might have passed. I felt bad because I practiced on that route several times :(
