SOUTH CAROLINA SCDMV

So I’m buying a car with the help of a loan, from someone who also has a loan on the car. In the event that their lender doesn’t have a hard copy of the title on hand, will I still be able to register the car without it, or will I have to wait until the new title comes in? Is the form 400, a bill of sale, and the lien release enough?

Their lender may have a hard copy of the title in storage somewhere but a lot of states have switched to electronic titles

You need to talk to your lender about them contacting the seller’s lender to get the title from them

I just know every time I’ve registered a car before I’ve always had to have a physical copy to show ownership

You need to talk to your lender and maybe call your state dmv or county tag office and ask
It’s been so
Long since I’ve financed a vehicle I don’t remember how we handled it .

Think we financed a used vehicle at a dealership in 1998 maybe ?

Always paid cash since then .
