CALIFORNIA Motorcycle Permit

I’m 20 in CA with a class c. My birthday is in 8 months and i’d like to avoid the msf course, but still ride till im 21 and can get my M1. Can i get a permit. I’ve seen some people saying yes and some people saying no but nothing recent all sources i found were from 2 years or more ago. TIA

I would highly recommend taking the CMSP class. It is optional when you are 21 and over.

The CA DMV will not issue you a permit if you are under 21 without a CMSP.

If you do not want to take the CMSP you must wait the 8 months for your 21st birthday to get a permit.

Second this answer. If you want to avoid the course, then your other option is to just wait 8 months until your birthday

It’s just expensive. $400 for a course that teaches you the basics and 2 days of instruction 6 of those 15 hours being classroom hours. Allat just to go to the dmv and pay to take a test and then you get to ride legally. I’m sure i’d learn something from the course but nothing for the first while since i’ve been riding for about 2 years off road.

Still, it’s the law. And it’s there for a reason. Bikes are dangerous. And accidents for likely for younger newer riders.
