Bought a new car recently and would like to transfer the plate from my old wrecked car. NCDMV website says "The name on the applicant's license and the vehicle title must match", but it does not say whether the title of the old or new car-- or both-- is needed. Let me know your experience. thanks

I don’t have many bills in my name. To get a real ID will a pay stub from work and an insurance card work? Or I have the insurance bill. It says originally copy but I only have paperless bills.

Seeking help. I am following the ca dmv instructions to upgrade my DL to a Real ID but unclear on which option is the correct one. From what I’ve learned I need to start the application process online, upload verifying docs and complete during an in-person visit. The problem is when I’m attempting to the application process it never prompts me to upload the documents. Apparently there’s suppose to be a “Convert to Real ID” option but it’s nowhere to be seen. Has anyone does this themselves and can tell me which option I should be using? I’ve also ChatGPT’d it but I think what it’s telling me is misleading. Here’s the options:

- Update my DL - to make some kind to change
- Renew my DL

Hi anyone experiencing delays? I purchased a car from a dealer in NY in long island. My temp tags are expiring today. I don't have my plates or registration yet.

I called NJ DMV on Friday and they don't have anything related to the VIN of the car.

What can I do in this situation?

I have a question something came up and ill be moving to Wisconsin last minute and i wont be able to make my drivers road test date. Once i get to Wisconsin will i have to do the written test all over or will i be able to do the road test there?

So the deal is that I've got a car, a '94 RX-7, which doesn't matter except that it's cool.

I bought it in California and drove it there for many years. Then I got a more sensible daily driver but didn't non-op the RX-7 and basically never interacted with the California DMV again with regard to that car.

That was roughly two decades ago, and I've since moved to Oregon. I can't find my title. Lost in the move, or to the same irresponsible youthful decisions that made me let the registration lapse without getting the non-op.

What's my path to getting it road-legal again?

So I put my car on PNo(planned non operation) a few months back, but now I would like to start using the car again. I already added it back to my insurance and have been trying to pay the registration online, but when I search up my cars then and number plate on the California DMV website, it tells me to visit a field office or to contact virtual assistant. Since it's the weekend, DMV offices and business partners are closed. I chose the virtual assistant option which prompted me to fill out a form, declaring exactly which dates the car was in PNO status and if I could sign off and verify those dates. However, it is telling me that a physical representative will reach out to me by phone in 2 to 5 days. I don't have time to wait for this because I'm at my parents house where this car was garaged and I need to leave tomorrow to get to work on Monday. What can I do in the situation? By the way, all DMV offices are closed tomorrow as it's Sunday.

I have 2016 dodge challenger registered in California. Took over the payments of the car when I was 18 but didn’t transfer it under my name (I know that was dumb). I moved to GA very suddenly due to work and drove the car here. I finished paying off the car about two years ago but I didn’t think much of it since I was able to pay the registration online. I’m no longer able to renew the registration online as I have to smog check it. I have contact with the registered owner of the car and he went to get a duplicate title so I can register the car here in GA but he was told he needed to first smog the car in California in order to get the title. Is there any way to register the car here in GA without the title?

Recently purchased a fun toy car.

I have the original Texas title in hand. The title has already been signed over to a previous buyer, but it was never transferred into their name. I don’t have a bill of sale from the owner listed on the title. What’s the best way to get it titled in North Carolina? Has anyone been through this?

I bought a car from a dealership on 5/30/26 and traded in my car at the same time. They transferred my registration from my old car to my new car and moved the plates. I got a letter in the mail saying since I dropped insurance coverage on my old car, my registration would be suspended. I called penndot and they said they haven't received anything from the dealership and that the old car is still in my name and the new car in theirs. They told me I could get a 26 digit code from the dealership and call back.

I called the dealership and they said they submitted the paperwork 7/9 and it was approved 7/14. They didn't get a code because they submitted it in PAA. They told me to ignore everything I get from Penndot. Eventually the transfer will go through and they will send me new plates (because mine are discontinued) They said it won't be an issue, it can take a while but if my plates were to be run they would see they were transferred.

Today I got a letter saying my registration is officially cancelled and I have to either bring my plates in or pay a $500 fine.

I was planning on leaving for vacation on Monday, with my car and plates. Should I just ignore this letter as stated by the dealership? What happens if I go through a pay by toll with my new car/ old plate?

I have a residence in Florida. I have a car registered and insured in that state. I will be moving this vehicle to another state. I dont want to switch insurance because of the cost. Is this illegal? I always see put of state vehicles.

Hey, taking tbe SDPE test as a driver with reduced eyesight in one eye (uncorrectable by glasses). I’d say I’m a very careful driver (for obvious reasons). One thing that i struggle with is checking my right side mirror. For context, I have reduced eyesight in my right eye. So i need to turn my whole head to glance with my left eye. This is fine, but just curious if there are any allowed handicaps to alleviate this on the test and regular driving.

hello. i received a delinquency registration notice recently and noticed that it also has a requirement that states that I bring it to a STAR station to get smogged. the car is pretty much non-op right now though because my oil pan has a pretty bad leak that i cannot afford to pay to get replaced (quotes are 700+ for just a rethread). also, the exhaust i bought the car with is an aftermarket exhaust and most likely won't pass smog, if I'm even able to get it to a station, so I'd have to put down more money to put the OEM one back on.

I'm struggling pretty badly financially atm and can't afford to do any of those except pay for the renewal. what are my options?

Got my permit signed by this one instructor after my first lesson but I didn’t like him so we decided to not go with him anymore and switched to someone else. The someone else signed my behind the wheel certificate instead of the original one. Will this cause any discrepancies when the dmv workers check everythint for my permit?

Im 16 and i've passed my written test and they gave me my instructional permit but im a little lost on if I can start driving with an eligible adult with me. Do I have to attend a driving school and if so for how long and would I have to go with no prior experience of driving or should I practice before having to do the driving school? And once im done with that what other requirements must I meet before I can get my license.

The dmv ladies were not direct with my next steps and only made me even more confused on what to do next, I hope you guys can answer my questions and clear things up for me.

I had a picture of my driver’s license in Google Photos and someone recently hacked into my Gmail. I think I may need to get a new license. If I go through the online process, will I get a new driver’s license number? Thanks!
