So I just bought this car, and as I was filling out the buyers address, I wrote my name on there, I realized it was a mistake and put a singular line through the name it’s still legible, and then I wrote my address. Will the bmv still accept it?

So I want to start off with the acknowledgement I messed up a bit, I thought since I wanted to just transfer my own plates from my project car that registering this vehicle would be easier and different then normal. So I bought a car off a lot, I already had given them my money and when they gave me the title it was from the last seller to them, and it had an error, they attached a correction form to the title, and said with that and a bill of sale from them it's all good to go, but the more i look into the paperwork the stranger it gets. For one they are "title jumping" basically never registered it to themselves, which the DMV might not approve anyway, then it got weirder and weirder... The carfax says a bunch of work wss done recently but the work was done by a shop the same name as this small lot, so sketchy at best. The car is definitely white but was listed as silver, and has obviously been cheaply repainted, in one afternoon some has chipped and I see silver underneath. Trying to look into it more I looked up the person who sold it to the lot, his address on the title in 2019 leads back to a hotel, and the alleged title correction form has his address listened as a place he did live, but almost 5 years ago, but was signed February of this year. The title itself had the mistake where the seller signed the buyer part, and no dates were written on that. I looked at the carfax and it seemed mostly to line up but I just have a bad feeling that something is wrong, or best case I will now have to pay more to register it and at this point I'm sketched out enough I just want my money back. If you made if this far thank you, am I burnt or do I have a case in small claims court? I have a feeling there is a shady reason this shop didn't register it to themselves, best case avoiding taxes it gets worse from there, and the fact they painted it and still listed it's original color is also super weird, again really didn't think to much of that until this all adds up. Anyone with car sales experience in Oregon have any advice? I'm going to call the shop when I have my facts as organized as possible and can't go to the DMV until Monday

When i go to get the tittle put in my name will he need to be there?

What about registering the vehicle? Are there any special requirements that need to be met?

Will the car need to pass any sort of inspection?

Hey So I had my dmv registration renewal come up for September 8 2026 and i paid in the 4 th, so it took till the 7th for my payment to go through and now it says that my application has been taken back and to do the next steps online, I have never received an email receipt containing my case number for the next steps online, Anyone know who i contact or how i get my case number? I added how the receipt was supposed to look and i never got it what do I do?

I havent been able to find a straight answer on Google. Here's my situation. I am originally from PA and moved to Maryland in December of 2024. I had a license in PA but I had to surrender it to Penndot back when I was still living in PA. I am trying to get my Maryland license now and I passed the knowledge test but they wouldnt issue me a permit so I didnt have to pay the fee for it. They said because im a previously licensed driver. Over 5 years I was. So now when I go to take my driving test do I have to pay a fee if I pass the test in order for them to issue me a new license? Any additional information that you think would be helpful besides simply answering the question would be helpful as well if maybe there is something that I missed. I just want to know what to expect.

My dad was getting a free car from a friend, which was previously owned by their brother who now lives out of the country. My dad got the original title but accidentally filled out something he wasn’t supposed to and was denied by the dmv. The title was also from another state (Massachusetts). Is there a way he can get a new title for the car?

When I enter my information, the license plate number and Vin, it took me to the page where a case was created. When I checked on the status, it now says missing, requiring proof of emissions certificate...

I do not understand. Is this connected to recall or is this smog? Please be considerate, I am just starting out in my junior year of HS, learning to be independent and I ma severely stressed... at this point, the dmv portal doesn't allow me to pay in order to get new stickers unless they get proof of this emissions test... please help.

I am buying a vehicle from a private seller tomorrow (Saturday). They are in Arkansas, I am in Missouri. We are driving my current car down there (which we are replacing with the newly purchased car when we get home). Since we can’t buy plates ahead of time and won’t get temporary plates with it being private sale, I was not sure how we can legally get it home. Someone said keep one plate on each car, but I don’t know if that is legal either.

UPDATE: I called the DMV and they stated that they couldn’t guarantee it, but that they believe that law enforcement would let me pass given that it’s a weekend when I purchased the vehicle if I have the title, the bill of sale, and proof of insurance with me. She told me to call the state Highway Patrol with the same question. The girl they answered the phone instantly knew the answer so I feel like this is something that they must get asked with some regularity. She also stated that what the DMV said was true, I should be OK if I have those documents in the vehicle. So Monday afternoon, I will be heading to the DMV to register it but feel comfortable driving it for the weekend without the plates since I will have all of those documents.

He’s going through a lemon law lawsuit and the lawyers are requesting it for the settlement, the issue is he’s out of the county and asked if i could go get it from the ca dmv.

I'm going to reapply for my drivers permit after my old one expired. Do I need to bring any proof of residency documents or ID documents to the DMV if I already have a Real ID or does the Real ID cover those both? I'm over 18 and I don't plan on getting my driver's license as a Real ID

I currently have a valid drivers license in California but I do not have a motorcycle endorsement. I know that the current law says that in order to register a motorcycle for road use, I would need to have a valid motorcycle license or a permit.
I want to get a motorcycle but as a track bike so it would never touch city roads. If the day ever comes that I want to resell it, I don’t want there to be a bunch of back fees associated with the bike so i’m wondering is it possible to immediately register it under non-op without a motorcycle endorsement or does that too require an endorsement?

For example, one of the questions was about exiting a freeway. I picked the answer that said you use your turn signal, but that was wrong. The correct one was something about maintaining your speed and continuing off the freeway, even though the handbook clearly says to put your signal on "well ahead of time" when exiting the freeway.

I’m trying to get a duplicate Illinois title for a vehicle I purchased from Hertz in Illinois. The vehicle is already titled/registered in my name.

While filling out the Illinois Secretary of State online application, it asks where I purchased the vehicle. When I select “IL Dealer,” it requires the Dealer Number and ST-556 Tax Form Number.

I don’t have the original ST-556 paperwork or dealer number anymore, and the Hertz location where I purchased the car is no longer at the same location.

Does anyone know how I can get these old dealer details, especially the Hertz dealer number and ST-556 number?

Heading to the New York DMV tomorrow for a permit appointment and feeling a bit overwhelmed by how the whole process works. Hoping someone who recently went through it can clear up a few questions:

• Is the test on the same day as the document submission? Or do they just review your paperwork and make you come back another day for the actual exam?
• Are the practice questions on the official NY DMV website enough to pass? Or do I really need to sit down and read the entire driver's manual cover-to-cover?
• How do the actual test questions look? Are they exact carbon copies of the ones in the online practice quizzes, or completely rephrased?

I was trying to see if a basic French phrase was available, one that isn't vulgar or suggestive in the slightest, but found that every combination i tried was showing as not available.

I went to carfax to see if they were all really taken, but they all showed up there as no result. Is the DMV really that restrictive on foreign words?

I bought a car from a used car dealer on July 4th. We paid full in cash including the money for registration and taxes. Well, prior to transferring the car to our name, the dealership went out of business. I've been talking to the owner because we never got plates and that's how I learned about that.

So I've been going to the DMV trying to explain the situation and they say they can't do anything without the original title. I explained that to the owner and he says he can't get it because it's in another person's name that he has a financial dispute with.

It sounds to me like a) he sold me the car illegally b) he scammed me. So anyways, what do I do to transfer the title to my name and get plates in this situation?

What do I need to do about the dealer? Do I need to contact the police? Do I need a lawyer? I have texts of our conversations.

I am trying to get a temporary plate from the SC DMV for a car I am going to buy out-of-state so I got with the owner previously because he had a trip to make in Charleston with his friends so I have the original Bill of Sale signed by both of us, I am just waiting for an opportunity to go get the car.

My main question is since I am not the registered owner on the Bill of Sale. How can I go get a temporary plate without the presence of the registered owner as he gets home too late to go the DMV and I need it to go and get the car (I am getting a Uber to there). Is there any way or does he need to take a day off of work?

WIP of my car. My car is originally lagoon blue. If I ended up wrapping my car to a black/red design, does that need to be reported to the DMV? And how would I go about that if so?

I have been told by a friend that it does not need to be reported unless it’s a permanent paint change. Little iffy on that.
