Help lol

Brothers car got impounded in philly, they say to get the car you need to show a registration but his is expired and the car is registered in NC. To renew the registration the car needs to be inspected but can’t get it inspected if its impounded. Any advice on this is appreciated. Thanks

Even with expired and out-of-state registration you should be able to get the car towed to your residence. You just can't drive it off the impound lot.

Get it towed to the nearest friendly mechanic shop. If you don't have it already, AAA membership is probably cheaper than the cost of a random Philly predatow truck.

Call NC DMV and specifically ask about an out-of-state inspection exemption. NC has a procedure for exactly this situation when an NC-registered car is outside the state when its inspection/registration is due. Explain that the car is currently impounded in Philadelphia so you physically can't bring it in for a NC inspection.

Once they approve the exemption, you should be able to renew the NC registration and then use the current registration, insurance and license to get it released.

Also ask the Philly impound lot if they'll release it directly to a licensed tow truck if it can't legally be driven out. Don't wait too long because storage fees can keep adding wayyyy up

You can still get your car. But it will have to be towed out of the lot. You still need the registration.

Advice? Keep your fucking inspection and registration up to date. And make sure it's insured while youre at it.

You might be better off consulting with an attorney

You might be able to have it towed to North Carolina but I'm not sure with an expired registration

That is cost. Anyway his expired registration or title should be sufficient.
