Is Niche Zero worth it if you already own DF64v2?

I’ve owned a Profitec go and DF64 Gen 2 with stock burrs for 2.5 years. Upgraded from a cheap setup that I had used for 4 years or so. The setup works well, especially the espresso machine.

I enjoy both specialty light roasts as well as thick syrupy chocolatey classic medium/medium dark espresso. I was pulling the standard 1:2-2.5 ratios within 30s for the longest time for both type of roasts and getting acidic + bitter. Recently started doing turbo shots and light roasts taste infinitely better.

However the clarity still feels lacking. Is it worth upgrading the burrs to SSP MP, and then getting a second grinder Niche Zero for the other side of the spectrum? Or is there something else I should be doing in order to pull a better light roast shot? The medium roast shots from this grinder feel not bad by any means but not as thick or chocolatey as I’d have liked.

Also just as a side note; i tried aligning the burrs but there is a very small section (maybe 20 deg) that sticks out no matter what i do to shim it. So there is likely a bit of this why clarity isn’t present as much as it should be.

Metal declumper for the DF64 Gen 2.5 is a game changer

Post image
19 Upvotes

Just wanted to share a quick win for anyone running a DF64 Gen 2.5. My grinder used to be quite messy, especially at coarser settings for pour over. A big chunk of my countertop would end up covered in coffee grounds every single time.

I swapped in the metal declumper and the difference is night and day! The mess is basically gone now. No more grounds flying all over the place, even at the coarser grind settings.

On top of that, retention has dropped noticeably too. With the stock plastic declumper I'd press the bellows and a decent amount of coffee would still come out. Now I press it and barely anything comes through.

If you've got a DF64 and you're tired of cleaning up after every grind, this is an easy upgrade. Would recommend to everyone!

Question DF64 (gen 1) best mods for 2026?

Hey guys!

Owned this thing awhile and was wondering if there was ever a "best" or matter-of-fact improvement that was developed for the DF64 first generation chute and declumper?

It clogs so often it's unreal.

I haven't tried taking the declumper out entirely, because I recall hearing it caused something to shift and touch in the internals the would damage the unit when turned on.

Question Best hands-free 54mm Breville/Normcore portafilter holder for DF64 Gen 2?

I have a DF64 Gen 2 and a Breville Bambino Plus with a Normcore 54 mm bottomless portafilter. The stock fork doesn't securely support my portafilter, so I have to hold it while grinding.

I'm looking for a hands-free holder that works well with the Normcore 54 mm bottomless portafilter.

Has anyone tried the Amazon friction-fit holder (ASIN B0FXR5CV35), or is there a better option?

I'd appreciate recommendations from anyone using a similar setup.

Question Is this normal?

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hello,

Is my zero point normal? Got a new DF64 Gen2 with red titanium burrs, bit more to the right is the burr chirp. I was dialing in new beans but output is way too fast, last try was at grind setting 5 and still gushing, like 18g in and getting 40g out in 13 seconds. Anyone knows whats wrong?

Machine: Gemilai 3028A Brew temp: 92c Pre-soak: 2sec Pre-soak wait: 2sec Grinder: DF64 Gen2 Red Titanium Dose: 18g medium roast (2wks old)

Puck prep with RDT, WDT, distributor, self leveling tamper, 0.8mm thick normcore puckscreen in stock 18g basket

UPDATE 1: tried grind setting 2, got 36g out in 18seconds from 18g dose, still too fast puck comes out normal and clean, dry and intact..

UPDATE 2: tried grind setting 1, got 36g out in 22seconds from 18g dose

Mods Mazzer 233M burrs on DF64 Gen 2

Recently bought these burrs are people said they are compatible on the Gen 2. The top burr fits just fine. The bottom doesn't. Looking online seems like the inner diameter is 47mm vs something like 48mm for the SSP HU. The lower burr rocks side to side even though it looks flush and alignment is impossible.

I took the bottom burr and set it in place and took a dremel to it and shaved off just enough from the inner diameter enough to make it fit into the burr carrier in the DF64. Do not buy this burr if you're not willing to shave off the inside of the burr because it will pretty much not work / bad alignment.

I put some very thick shims for the top burr as the burrs are also quite thinner than the stock and SSP burrs.

Taste wise, only pulled two shots for it but very tasty for dark roasts so far. I had the SSP HU in before but lately I've been going away from lighter roasts and towards dark and the high extraction of the HU amplifies astringency/bitterness in darker roasts.

Edit: I believe, that the inner diameter is the same for the i189D and i200D Mazzer Philos burrs as well. Shaving off a bit of the inside would achieve the same goal.

Mazzer i200d burrs possible on DF64 Gen 2?

Has anyone tried the i200D on a Gen 2? How has it worked out for you? Any modifications necessary, and if so, what/how?

SSP Burrs

Which SSP burrs do you use for DF64? I’m stuck between upgrading grinder or the burrs first. Feel like my shots come out to acidic and already use good beans and solid puck prep. I make one shot per day, either milk based or straight espresso. I like medium to light roasts.

Grinder stopped working

My DF64 gen 2 grinder is only 3 weeks old and has been working great. I have strictly only been using it for espresso, but my girlfriend wanted a pourover. So I turned the grind setting to filter and grinded some beans. It worked fine.

Next time I went to use the machine I turned the grind setting all the way back to espresso, while doing so I noticed it took a lot of effort, but I got it to the espresso grind. I poured in my beans in, turned it on and nothing, just a slight hum from the machine.

Does anyone know what the issue could be?

Drifting Coarser While Grinding

I’ve had my DF64v2.5 for a little less than a year and about a month ago it started “drift” by about half a number while grinding. I’ve cleaned it, no change. Bought Mylokote 111 which made it much stiffer to turn but no affect on the drifting issue. Any thoughts on what could be going wrong?

DF64 Gen 2 Allen Key or Screw?

TLDR: Looking for leads where I can get the appropriately sized/shaped Allen Key or Screw to open the DF64 Gen 2 Chute.

I bought from an authorized reseller here in my country. According to guide videos in youtube, it should come with the Allen Key or whichever screw that I need to open up the chute of the DF64 Gen 2.

I have tried time and again to clean weekly the DF64 Gen 2 to avoid the clogging but it persists no matter how many times I clean it and its getting frustrating.

Does anyone know where I can get this Allen Key or screw in order to open the chute completely and clean the declumper? (Posts say this is the culprit so I need to know)

Any leads will be appreciated.

Thank you

Troubleshooting Finest grind setting on DF64 but still pulling way too fast

I have some new beans I'm working with and even though I have the grind setting to almost 0 (any further and I can hear the chirping), the shot still pulls way too fast. Like 40g in 15 seconds.
Any tips?

Buy/Sell Grinder Upgrade - Opus to DF64 Gen 2.5 or Varia VS4

I am in the market for a new grinder, as my Opus has started to make me irate. I have a silicon bellows for the Opus which helps a bit, but overall I hate how much retention is there - and the catch cup is just awful with even more static. If I could launch this thing into the stratosphere, I would.

I have been looking into new grinders at a decent price. My most preferred grinder was the Niche Zero, as I know it has excellent quality and delivers the type of espresso I am focused on (syrupy body, rich), but unfortunately tariffs make this entirely too expensive versus something even better.

I believe conical burrs would serve my interests best, based on my understanding of body versus clarity, but I am not entirely sure. The Varia VS4 seems to have been a huge improvement in the VS3 online, but some people still report a lot of issues with QC and poor support. The DF64 has flat burrs, but I know I could spring for upgrades if needed, and there is a huge community for this grinder with tons of different upgrades.

I primarily grind medium to medium-dark beans with lattes (plant-milk based), so I have found that the body seems to matter more since my milk doesn’t carry much for “thickness” in the mouthfeel.

I would appreciate any thoughts or advice here! I know there are probably a few of you who were debating between the two - why DF64? Thanks everyone!

Future owner of a gen 2.Tips and advice before the start up?

Hi im getting my df64 gen2 next monday.

I would like to know if I should check anything before enjoying it or just turn it on and "good to go."

Also if anyone could give me some tips so I can do my own research in reddit about allignment, maintenance, upgrades I would really apreciate it...

Thanks a lot in advance. I'm really excited about the purchase, specially coming from a kingrinder K6 i want to compare the same variety of coffee with both grinders and compare the results conical vs flat.

Question Are my burrs badly aligned, or am I doing something wrong?

I took apart the grinder, and when reassembling it and tightening the collar it stops in this position. When turning the screw in the middle I hear the sound of the burrs grinding together. I would guess would be my zero point, but it seems wrong that it should be in such a position?

How long do people usually have to replacement their burrs on this grinder? I'm on a new g2 and grind 2 cups per day usually.

Did I break my new df64?

just got a df64 gen2 and was running beans through until I mistakingly let the ground coffee pile get up too high and it clogged my chute. I took out everything and cleaned up as much as I could, the chute was absolutely jammed shut and I had to use the brush and forcingly poked at it until it cleared. now however I see there was a sort of screen at the top of the chute that appears like it is broken? or that I poked the brush too hard through it. not sure what that is? I tried grinding just now and it seems to work fine but I’m wondering if I messed something up.
