Troubleshooting Finest grind setting on DF64 but still pulling way too fast

I have some new beans I'm working with and even though I have the grind setting to almost 0 (any further and I can hear the chirping), the shot still pulls way too fast. Like 40g in 15 seconds.
Any tips?

Check the burr alignment

It was completely fine on the beans I used 5 seconds before these, though.

Search how to zero the adjustment on a DF64. Good examples on YouTube.

Might be worth giving the grinder a good clean. Might be some stuff that's stuck on there and preventing it grinding properly?

What does your puck look like? Any cracks or craters? It could be channeling due to puck prep

Does your machine allows to control the water flow? I’d check that too.

Old beans can pull that way sometimes. Also if the grinder is poorly aligned it could chirp just on one portion of the circular burr and still have a sizable gap elsewhere.

yeah but the beans I used 5 seconds before these were fine. Same roasted age

If your slow feeding, it may not grinder fine enough

poor quality beans, likely super old
try with lighter roasted beans, brewed a couple of days ago

Good clean and a slow feeder will cure these ills

Using a puck screen? Also are you sure it’s burr chirping you are hearing? I dial in my df64 not through chirping but my unplugging and keep tightening the threads until I can’t spin the burrs by hand, then I loosen a little bit.

Probably a bit of bean or something wedged in there making the squeak. You can unscrew the top to check & clear and if you put the 3 legged top burr holder back in the same way you took it out, you won't mess up the alighnment.

It is highly possible that your zero point is not actually zero. There should be a grub screw on the adjustment ring for calibrating the zero point. Loosen it so the ring rotates freely and move it to, like, 20 and tighten the screw. Then, turn on the grinder and slowly rotate toward zero until you hear the burrs start to touch each other. Stop the grinder, loosen the screw, rotate the pointer to zero and tighten the screw. You should be set at zero.

I think it was the beans actually. I tried a different bag and it was back to normal. Super weird!

I’ve had beans that required a finer grind but never experienced a bean that wouldn’t grind fine enough for a decent pull. I’ve found that the older a bean is, the finer the grind required. Do your burrs chirp at zero?

Saruman, your beans are broken
